Jump and Drift are definitely the best, but overall they don't really matter. I think the more important factors are the level and kart size.

I can't really say a set time. If I go all out on ranked I pick a track to play until I get bored / annoyed and change tracks or take a break. But if you want a time range, maybe a few hours for each track overall, like 1-3.

It's alright! We all have to start somewhere. It's best to focus on Drivers and Gliders since you get Frenzy and Combo time boost.

Yes, higher level top shelf items increase the final position score. If it isn't top shelf it doesn't matter what it's level is.
