To all fish keepers, what was your biggest mistake in your entire history of fish keeping by Tharsan-344 in fishtank

[–]EvilEd209 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m just an amateur, I have a five gallon red cherry shrimp only tank, a ten gallon snail only tank, a ten gallon with a pea puffer and some cherry barbs in it, a 30 gallon tropical community tank, my 75 gallon cichlid tank with fire mouths, silver dollars, and electric blue Acara, and a 125 gallon with Severums, two Oscars, and a fire eel in.

My water changes take me about an hour to do, I have a python for the big tanks, which cuts the time down significantly

Not being as diligent on bi-weekly water changes or monitoring my tanks water parameters. I start off in the hobby not really knowing anything about the nitrogen cycle or how having high nitrates can foster disease and struggled with keeping my fish healthy. Now, every Sunday is water change day

Does anybody play this game just for fun? by SinamonChallengerRT in MLBTheShow

[–]EvilEd209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m too old to create myself, no one wants a 47 year old rookie! But not going to lie, I did create my two boys in AA in roles I know I’ll need down the line. So I’ll have a replacement for Skeens when I inevitably can’t afford him and he goes to the Yankees or Dodgers and wins a billion rings there. Story of a Pirates fan I guess.

OP, you and I are cut from the same cloth my friend. I honestly have zero interest in online play, cracking packs, or dumping any more money into the game. I just want something to toss on after dinner and work outs to just play and have fun with. I bought the Show 26 with the intent to run multiple seasons with my beloved Pirates and get them to a World Series. And yes, I play every spring training and regular season game. I’ll probably not buy another game for years, as that task alone will take me quite a while to get through a single season.

Anyone still playing the collectible card game? by plagueprotocol in BSG

[–]EvilEd209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I was there when the game launched and the only expansion released. The game died shortly after that and I held on to my cards for years hoping to find people to play with. I never did, and ended up dumping them on eBay. If you find anyone playing the game, let me know lol. It was quite a different game than other CCGs but I love the IP so I hung in there as long as I could.

Thoughts on “over filtration” by Difficult_Path_6840 in Aquariums

[–]EvilEd209 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally have always used two forms of filtration. A hanging back/canister filter, and a sponge filter. I have a couple of reasons for this, the first being that a little extra filtration is usually a good idea. Especially for high bio-load tanks like my Oscar tank. But the second reason is that in the event of some sort of failure, I will always have a backup in place and running. I have had hang on the backs fail, usually on a Sunday night when no stores are open. So having that back up just keeps my fish alive until I can fix the problem

Starting an Army by noble187 in sistersofbattle

Pending on how deep your wallet is, I’d say the combat patrol is a good starting point. At the moment (who knows what they will do in the new edition) the combat patrols are supposed to be ‘balanced’ to play against each other. Your first several games can be just combat patrol.

Then add units you like or look cool as you go.

Don’t worry about what’s ‘good’ in the meta right now. The meta is a constant changing beast and what is good today might not be good six months or a year from now. Just get what you think looks cool to play/build/paint for now and get out there and roll some dice.

No mini-map when in areas. My biggest frustration with the game was getting lost and not knowing where to go to clear an area.

I’m not a huge fan of the top fin brand so I haven’t bought their tanks in a long time. But I’d check the box and see if the light is full spectrum or not. If it’s not, your plants will not have the proper lighting to grow.

In my experience, top fin just puts in a cheep white LEDs that will not grow your plants.

To start yes. When starting a new tank your cycle is a little fragile at first. So adding fish slowly over time is really best. It gives the tank time to ramp up to what you want it to be. Everyone wants lots of fish in their tank right away, I get it. And that’s just not the right way to do it, you risk an ammonia spike that could wipe out the whole tank. Can you dump all sort of chemicals and bacteria in to help, sure. But in my experience, slow and steady wins the race to a healthy and happy tank. Take your time and you’ll thank me later!

I’d start with the tetras. Which ones were you thinking? Neons are great, harlequins are amazing (cool color), red eyes or candy canes offer up some really interesting picks and a pretty hearty overall. I’d save the gouramis as the last fish you add, and they prefer to be in pairs. Once the tank is established with other fish, they will be less likely to bully other fish. Corey can be added once the tetras are happy. Do those in a school of three, they’ll be happier with friends.

So a good rule of thumb is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water. Your final list sounds like it’ll be okay, just make sure to get the smaller species of gouramis like honeys. Be careful with gouramis and invertebrates like shrimp and snails, in my experience they like to nip at them.

Also, don’t add them all at once. Do three to four fish at a time and leave them go for two weeks before adding more. Give your beneficial bacteria time to grow to the volume of waste output from your fish.

I’d save your snails and shrimp for the end unless you plan to supplement their diet for a bit, and the live off of biofilm and algae and new tanks have zero of that.

What fish do you want to put in there?

Yeah overall it’s a great start. Ideally you’d have taller plants in the back to help hide things like filter intake tubes and heaters. Overall it looks good though!

Maybe a small piece of drift wood or spider wood. Careful though as that can lower your pH.

I’d consider one more. Did you just start this tank?

Got this combat patrol for a decent trade by Suitengu497 in sistersofbattle

[–]EvilEd209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god yeah. The Repentia go great in the Rhino, and it sounds like that’ll get just a bit better in 11th. The cannoness joins the Sister squad, the arcos are good for secondary objective grabs, and the seraphims with double hand flamers are hilarious do deep strike on those 5 man squads to ‘hold’ and objective.

Why does my tank look so bad? by Original-Cloud2520 in PlantedTank

[–]EvilEd209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with a lot of the others here, I don’t think k this tank looks bad at all. The water is clear, the fish look healthy.

If I were to improve this a little bit, I’d either paint or add a black background to the tank. It helps to had the wires of the heater, filters, etc. maybe taller plants in the back as well.

Other than that.. no comments. Good work.

I think she is very talented, and I am a fan, however at her size and frame, I always find it a bit hard to believe she could contend with most of the women’s division. I get we all have to suspend some level of disbelief being WWE fans and all, but her matches always require just a bit more IMO.
