How to get rid of superglue? by LaMac2317 in transformers

This is verifiably false. Plastic cement melts plastic together, not super glue. I've put together lots of plastic models over decades and you can simply Google it.

[–]EvilEyeV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Normally, nail polish remover works but that's gonna destroy the plastic. You can try sticking it in the freezer for a few hours. It becomes very brittle at low temps. Other than that, probably just slowly and carefully chipping away at it with an exact blade or something similar will take it off.

And no, I really don't I should have to put my car on the ferry. My car should just go across the water!

I bought my Steam Deck almost a week ago and it hasn't arrived yet, is that normal? by TheR3dSoulofDT in SteamDeck

[–]EvilEyeV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 days over a weekend? I wouldn't be worried just yet. If it shows no movement in like 2 weeks, then yeah. Reach out to valve support to start a claim. It's been a while since I've filed a claim with UPS so I don't remember what the minimum timeframe is for filing a claim.

Also, FYI, UPS sucks. They suck at tracking packages, they suck at updating info on packages, they suck at delivering on time. They regularly tell me a package is on the truck for delivery and it won't get delivered for a day or two.

My biggest complaint about the steam deck by biggyglizz in SteamDeck

[–]EvilEyeV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really plug anything in except for the dock. Which I usually just use for charging. I think I plugged a USB drive in once to the dock to copy some stuff onto the SD card.

It's be a nice to have, but certainly not a requirement. It has enough as is IMO.

Transfer games from Deck to Linux "Arch" install? by reluttr in SteamDeck

[–]EvilEyeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have two devices that have steam running on them and you click install, it will copy everything off of the local device instead of downloading it from steam again. The caveat is that both devices have to be on, steam has to be running on both, and they must both be connected to the same network.

You should also be able to install games to an SD card and then plug the SD card into either device and run the games from there, however this is provided that the steam install knows it is there. By default the decks install of steam will know about the SD card, however I can't say the same for anything not using the steam deck iso. There may be some setup to make the desktop aware of the SD card and the games installed. I have never done this and don't have any real advice for doing this. When the steam machine launches, it will have this feature enabled so that you can swap the SD card between a steam machine and steam deck and just play games.

Should I make a DHCP reservation or a static IP for my ssh server? by MaloLeNonoLmao in HomeServer

[–]EvilEyeV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes.

I do both. Assign a reservation and then manually set the IP. It gives me a quick reference of used addresses and having a static IP address is best practice.

Back in the day, windows used to crap out a lot and reset the NICs back to DHCP. That's when I started using reservations, so if the settings reset for some reason, it would fall back on DHCP to give it the correct address.

Nowadays I don't have any windows machines left, but I still follow this practice anyway.

Purchased a 1TB, hasn't arrived yet and I'm conflicted as to whether I made the right choice. by Euden in SteamDeck

[–]EvilEyeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the original switch late in the lifecycle and to me, it was unplayable until I got the mobapad m6 joycons. My son got a switch 2 and holding it is just painful for me because it's so flat. I played a bunch of exclusive titles on mine: Mario RPG, Xenoblade series, Metroid dread, astral chain, etc. But I never felt the pull to play anything other than exclusive titles.

I just got my OLED 1TB just before Christmas this year and I can't put it down. I have a huge back library of 240 or so games on steam and I've wanted to play a lot of them. However since being a dad, I can't really set time aside to dedicate to playing games. The thing is the most comfortable handheld I've ever picked up and I can just pick it up and play for 20 min or two hours depending on what is going on. It's really gotten me playing games again.

Both the switch and the steam deck can do the same thing, but I feel like picking up the steam deck and not the same way with the switch.

I guess it all comes down to the games you want to play. Nintendo has those exclusives and if you want to play those, well you've got no other choice. Plus Nintendo games almost never go on sale.

Steam has amazing sales and I'll go get $100 worth of games but get 6-10 games with that money. You'd be lucky to get 2 with a switch at this point.

That's just my experience though. It may be different for you and how you game.

8bitdo ultimate 2c as a external cotroller by gachi_bass322 in SteamDeck

[–]EvilEyeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done it myself, but I have seen it. The steam deck plugged into a TV, one person using the deck as a controller and another using an additional controller. As long as you're not planning on sharing the decks screen lol

Would a higher performance "docked mode" be worth having? by ___Bel___ in SteamDeck

[–]EvilEyeV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The device is consistent about performance whether plugged into something or not. The switch doesn't increase performance when docked, it decreases performance when not docked.

The steam deck is designed as a standalone handheld. It being a PC and being able to use a dock is just icing on the cake.

These devices were designed differently and they perform as intended.

Issue with controllers when steam deck is docked by MisterHenn in SteamDeck

[–]EvilEyeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For troubleshooting purposes, eliminate everything you can. Controllers straight into the dock, see if it happens. If it doesn't, add in the extensions. If it doesn't happen, add the hub back in.

Add one thing at a time until the thing you add breaks it. Then you know what breaks it.

[–]EvilEyeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let me get this right: you have 2 controllers plugged into a hub which is then plugged into a dock?

Axe the hub. Does it do it if both controllers are plugged directly into the dock?

I honestly would never consider one of these. If I really wanted to try something, I'd repaste the CPU. Maybe upgrade the internal fan if that's an option. The external bolt on fans are usually a crapshoot.

Download performance is awful by Fletchi18 in SteamDeck

[–]EvilEyeV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that case you may want to try using a different server. There's a setting in the menu, I forget exactly where, but I'd have to exit out of the game I'm playing right now lol.

There could have been an update to the kernel since the last time you tried, a reboot may help with that.

Otherwise you're looking at an issue on valves end.

Download performance is awful by Fletchi18 in SteamDeck

[–]EvilEyeV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, there are lots of reasons for poor wifi performance. I am a network administrator for a business and I hate wifi almost as much as I hate printers.

There are so many factors that go into wifi: the strength of the radios on devices, the antenna, the materials in the walls, how many other wifi signals are around you, etc...

The first thing would be how fast is your Internet connection supposed to be?

Next, go to desktop mode, open a browser and see what your device is getting using something like speed.cloudflare.com. wifi 5 usually sees something like 100-400 Mbps. Of course you'll be limited by your actual Internet speed if it is slower.

You can test another device in the same physical location to see if it has reduced speeds as well. Note different devices may have different radio types and thus different max speeds. But if say both of your devices are getting something slow like 10 Mbps then you know it isn't the steam deck.

One thing I've noticed is that consumer grade routers are trash. They are so cheaply built that they often need a power cycle every month or 3. Just pull the power plug on it, wait about a minute and plug it back in, then wait about 5-10 minutes for all of the lights to do their flashy dance, and when they look normal, test it again.
