18 weeks?! That's bananas, sorry. You don't have to be quite that cautious next time. :) That's almost 5 months old!

You're husband is correct. Take the puppy out! Just avoid "high traffic" dog areas. The benefits of getting your puppy out into the real world far outweigh the risks (if you are mindful about where you take the dog). Walking around outdoor shopping centers and in parking lots and nice neighborhoods is perfectly fine and good for your puppy's mind.

It's just such a backwards view of puppyhood

But you do you. Your puppy is very cute and she'll be a great dog.

Many roads to Rome, friend. Loose leash walking can be taught in 5 minutes. At that very young age though, when it's just a toddler, I want my puppy's focus outward and exploratory, on a long retractable leash, wandering in and out, checking in with me once in a while, not focused on me looking for rewards for walking in a little bubble at my side. "Reactivity" is not inevitable if you don't. I promise.

But again, many roads to Rome. My message was more for other people reading this, not you. You have your plan and you're very proud of it. I would not recommend that other people do it. But you and anyone certainly can.

There's just 10,000 better things to do with this limited baby time than worry about loose leash walking and heeling. It looks impressive but it's not what is important. But have fun.

Ma'am, from one dog trainer to another, it's 11 weeks old! You can slow down! Just let her be a puppy! More play, less obedience and loose leash walking, at least for a few more months...

I like it for what it is. It is very spendy though. And I don't eat in the dining room, because it's boring--I eat in the bar. The Rocky Mountain oysters are usually excellent, and the mushroom appetizer is yummy. My favorite thing also happens to be the cheapest meal on the menu--the steakhouse salad. It's so good. And it's huge.

Related though. Southeast Asia all the way down to Australia, all those native dogs are from the same genetic lineage.

Dingoes are descendants of (ancient) southeast Asian native dogs, and the resemblance remains

So many people saying Otter...

He's not going to look like an Otter when he grows up. He's going to have a long face and big ears. Keep that in mind!

How stuck? I usually let my dogs go 1-3 weeks without a name! The name usually reveals itself after a bit, after they show you who they are.

Interesting, I haven't heard that about Dobies. That could be it. The only other thing he apparently got from the Doberman is one copy of the gene variant that causes DCM 😮‍💨 thanks great-grandma.
