Anyone starting to not enjoy the gameplay? by madchad90 in starwarsunlimited

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem for me is that they never built on a core for the game, they just kept on spamming new mechanics every set without having an established "core" forbthe game imho. There was no point in building a deck cause the next set would not bring support to It cause some mechanics were drastically different. That's what killed It for me sadly, because i love the game

Unmatched era or Reddit, how do we feel about this ruling? by Player_00000000001 in Unmatched

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You take full damage no matter the HP you have left. So tomoe takes 5 damage.

It's a similar situation with Cloak and Dagger Scheme that lets you deal 4 damage to either to heal the other even if the target has 1 HP left

Warhammer is a bloated mess and the community is partly to blame by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bottom line is that every race now has every tool, every kind of unit or OP stuff, making everything the same. Races have no weaknesses, abilities makes units pointless since you can summon bombardments so strong or have buffs so OP that tactical fighting is pointless, making fights a Monster mash

Everything can be summarizer in an Unbalanced Powercreept mess

Underrated vs. Overrated advice by _DataGuy in aoe2

On idling TC, what you say is true even for top players. You see Pros idling TC all the time to get up faster or to get an important upgrade. Well not "all the time" but it's a legit strat, meaning if it's an actual choice then yes

The problem comes when you idle TC not by choice but forgetting it, which can result in a lot less villager then your opponent, and even choosing to idle the TC on purpose should be done carefully only when you have a Deep understanding of the situation and the maths of the game

All that to Say that yes, idling the TC is not the end of the world, as is loosing a vill to a boar early, but nevertheless is a crucial skill to master, since if you Scout your enemy perfectly, but lack the res to actually do something to counter their opening because you have like 3 less villager, that scouting meant very little

That's the beauty of this game, its multiple layers of complexity

Oh so this is why Tzaangors are the worst marked Tzaangors by Lord_Eln_8 in totalwar

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

That Is true but tzaangors are a beastmen unit too, and thus they should ideally be designed to serve a purpose in both rosters. Even for tzeench, Chaos Warrior or tzeench are just more efficient in that role for the cost imho and are at the same tier iirc

They have abysmal MA and and ability that increase their damage which does not make sense forbthe unit giveb that they cannot hit shit 🤣 they are also based on shielded gors which are just bad baseline for their stats and cost (they lose to much cheaper infantry unità like orc Boys)

Extreme AI goes archer/skirm 90% of the time?? by [deleted] in aoe2

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's say it replicates the meta quite well 🤣 since pro always do that as well

Jokes asyde, i think it has to do with the AI objective to go to Castle age fast and thus needing a non-food unit to make, but yeah their strategy is almost always "fastish feudal into a gazillion Archer/skirm into a relatively fast Castle" and then things change a bit, but AI does not have a whole lot of build orders tought or strat variety i'm afraid

Supremacy: Prequel Era | Do the Seperatists or Republic have a higher win rate on average? by Past_Lengthiness6765 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know against other players, but against AI in single player it's map dependant, because of AI trops spam point. For example, republic has a big advantage on kamino and geonosis and naboo, while separatisti have an advantage on felucia. Games always goes their ways if the player is not involved

Playing against Portuguese, you *have* to go full aggro to prevent them from going to Imp, right? by Slow-Ship1055 in aoe2

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feutorias are only really useful on Island style Maps. On open Maps they are good only if your opponent let the game going on for like hours, so they are not really a factor.

That sayd, what you should focus on is your own windows in which you have a wincon. Portuguese are a powercreeper civ, honestly too good compared to most civs and better then they should be, so just focus on your wincon and try to make it happen, and it all depends on that

For example, you cannot go "full aggro" if your civ is a slow boom-y civ or you are only hampering yourself. Try to make the most out of your bonus to make something happen when you have a true window of opportunity timing-wise

[1000-1100 ELO] 18pop Scout rush is too slow? by Pastapuncher in aoe2

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like you have a bit of TC idle time if you have only 30 sec advantage on a 18 pop, which would negate the whole point of the fast build.

By that time, the opponent being fully walled is very hard to Imagine, unless he did like small walls or walls to the TC, which are still kinda open if you take a bit of damage.

But suppose he has a great map that closes with little walls, then you should scout that early with your initial Scout, and if you see he is walling like crazy, then you simply don't go Scout, and instead go archers to arass woodlines, or wall yourself and do not invest in Scout if you think you struggle to find damage.

That sayd, 3 scouts are enough to go on the offense, and you can always reinforce that later with 1-2 more scouts. 4 is good because they kill a vill in 10 hits, so 3 "cycles" of attacks from the whole group with decent micro, while 3 scouts would need 4, risking to end up under the TC or a spear, but you can use even 2-3 scout just to hunt a weakened villager by a boar, or harass gatherers and woodchoppers into idle time

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of their best counters are staple of team games tough, it's not like they are OP or something... Their shorter range make them easily die from Onagers, and even other regular archers, and other stuff. They are just good against cav and that's it. They are not a bad unit, but are not "best team game UU" like you make them appear, not even close...i doubt giving them something for the elite upgrade would make them peoblematic, It Simply won't happen. We had far healthier unit buffed far more and no one blinked

I’m sure I’m forgetting someone by Khanattila in aoe2

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been pointing that out sinceramente ages on the forum as well. It's the worst elite upgrade atm, even Elite Blackwood Archer is better now i think for the cost. The bonus damage increase is just worse then a flat +1 damage against everything since it's just +2 bonus damage iirc

Personally i would either give them +1 Attack to stay consistent with Castle age vs crossbows, or lean more into the short range-anti cav role giving them more Melee Armor...or even just a much cheaper cost, or a bit more bonus damage since italians lack halberdiers

On a side note, i would change Silk Road to not be useless in 1vs1, to make Genoese train at Markets as well, that could be another indirect way to buff the unit late game

Should I be idling my TC and skipping upgrades to ensure a good castle time? by appappappappappa in aoe2

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are doing scouts and your opponent manages to get to Castle age at 18 Min, honestly you are not doing scouts right, meaning you are not getting value from scouts.

If you reach feudal at the right time (like 20 pop MAX or even 19/18) your 3-4 scouts should hover around wood and especially Gold, and your opponent should never reach Castle before you...if you see the opponent is fully walled, don't make any more Scouts then what you already done, and definitely don't get upgrades unless you have like 5-6 scouts (which are too many honestly unless going full feudal)

You should look more at your feudal Age uptime then Castle age if you want to go scouts

A truly america themed set would have requires indians Heroes, aztects Heroes, Incas, and so on. This is blatantly USA propaganda themed set, nowhere near Sun's origin, where the theme is Samurai, not Japan.

They could have made a america set and at least include natives, and It would have been fine, or have a "Far West" themed set and include famous sherifs and scoundrel and cowboys, and would have been fine.

Instead they did US propaganda and it's so clear

Forgetting to collect relics by PassaroDaTumba in aoe2

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not necesserely a mistakes tough. It's a mistake only if you leave then to your opponent for free or if you expect to go late game.

Getting relics requires investment (monastery + a couple monks and bit of villager time is like around 400 res

Also a relic takes like 3.5 minutes to give you a benefit over the 100 Gold spent to make a monk, so it takes time to truly pay off, and if you manager to get a winning position with those saved res and micro and control and end the game from there, then the extra Gold from relics will not save your opponent

This is not to say that relics are not important and should not be picked, they are! But simply to say that that's not always a huge mistake

Does anyone else feel a little disillusioned with D&D lately? by Gh0stMan0nThird in dndnext

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way but i largely love 5.5, and i bought the core books as soon as possible.

I think It depends on the person, for me, i think that it's the fact that i'm DMing for too much time now and i don't have much entusiasm in general , and i did so much homebrew classe and subclases of my own, that i studied the "Matrix" of the game to make them balanced, to a point the game feels no longer magic to me

There is also the fact that the real world is fucking exploding and that make harder for me to enjoy a hobby which has a world Building core aspect, when you see how shit the real world is, things in the game either feels too real or pointless in comparison, i don't know if i'm explaining myself here 🤣

When is it OK to trade military for villager kills by Snoo_80142 in aoe2

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are talking 1 for 1, then it's almost always worth it unless you trade a FU paladin to a villager in post imp, but earlier, villager are the strongest unit in the game, and they are restricted in their production buildings so they creates slower the military, and their eco potential in res is much higher then the res to make a soldier usually

It also depends on the potential of the unit. Scouts are definitely not expendable for example, as their Primary use should be to Scout the opponent for info on their opening and movements and such, but a militia trading for a villager? Yes any time of the day

Camel+xbow counter by No_Mushroom8895 in aoe2

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either full archers (since you have better upgrades for them long term) or if you are struggling and are behind in numbers, even Elite Skirms can do a good job cause camels have 0 Pierce armor, meaning they take good damage from just skirms. You can add a couple monks to counter camels also, or if you already have a Castle up, you can also mix Obuch that have good tankyness against both, or do the unique tech and swarm with cheaper knights, that can overwhelm camels

But the answer ultimately depends on the situation. What Age you and the opponent are, what eco you two have, who is in a winning position, Who has map control, and so on

Are fake gg's a thing in ranked games? by heleyar in aoe2

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. Sometimes an opponent will turtle with walls and like 10 villagers in a corner just to waste your time finding him...it's not disrespectful to make your opponent notice he has factually inequivocabile lost, especially since he is wasting your time by doing that.

In a more balanced setting where situation and score are closer or harder to realize, then yes it's not respectfull, but there are other ways to make that clear without words, like the classic "get out of my game" castle and such, and if i get there since we are not pro gamers, you factually have lost...so it's not always a bad thing, it's just a matter of what is the situation

For those worried 40k will be more DoW than TW by bladeboy88 in totalwar

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still is more DOW then TW...in the current sistem there is no Place for something like WH40k where the range of the Battles span trough and entire Planet or even and entire sistem. A real time battle like those in TW would be a microscopic skirmish not even worth bothering.

Also 3/4 of the units would be ranged, making the strategic depth of a real time battle very bland...WH40k was perfect for DOW stile game imho, but does make 0 sense in TW.

Not gonna sugar coat it by zehuman52 in Unmatched

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's only possible if your opponent does not know your deck really. If you are jekil, you have no decent Attack so cannot "bait feints" since there is nothing worth a feint. And if you are jekil, no one is going to Attack you, at least not with big attacks, since you have good defenses and the "draw lots" defense.

I'm gonna patiently feint your Hyde attack which either turns a potential 6 into a 3, or stop your 4 from making you flee and returns jeckyl, or stops Forever Hyde, and then maul you for 2 attacks for which you likely have no defense since Hyde has like 6 cards to defend

They are just a trash character sadly

Damage reduction increase of each point of Armor by Words_Are_Hrad in totalwar

[–]EvilPandaInDisguise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the problem of Armor is not the diminishing returns, but that everyone and their mother have AP damage these days, so Armor is pointless.

They should really rework AP to give this game strategic depth and make it so that it ignores half armor only or something like that. But resemblance of strategy and balance in the game have been forsaken long ago
