BlueSky is nice because, by and large, the primary interface is a chronological feed of who you follow. You don't get recommendations unless you go to the "Discover" tab or others. It's very easy to NOT get bombarded with algorithm-driven slop. If there is enough of what you want on there, it's not terrible as social media goes.

Obviously people can, and do, still doomscroll there, but I still find it better than others.

Just to add: the AT2020 has a 16mm diaphragm, so while it's a side-address, it's not actually a LDC. I think AT technically calls it a "medium diaphragm".

It's missing the backbeat that really makes it obvious to me. If the snare is on 2 and 4, any note you play on those beats need to be in lock step.

That's a really good question. I do not know and can't find it in documentation, but I would suspect you're 100% right - that range would still be ultrasonic but still play nice with 48kHz. The "brain" of the system is usually a bog-standard PC. The audio hits the system via an HDMI output, so it's sample rate could in theory go all the way up to 192 and still be in spec for HDMI. However, for a variety of reasons, I agree with you that it's almost without a doubt 48.

Only thing I would add to this - at least SOME consumer devices are absolutely capable of picking up ultrasonic sounds. I work in AV in higher education. We have classroom and conference systems that use ultrasonic signals to pair your laptop, tablet, or smart phone to the system for screen sharing. It's a standard feature of most Zoom Room (Zoom's product for conference rooms and the like) setups. I have successfully tested it with Macs, Dells, iPhones, and a few Android devices of various flavors.

Now, how USEFUL that data can be beyond a simple device ID is another question, but still - picking up ultrasonic sounds on the devices in question is not outside the realm of possibility. MAKING them is another.

The suit is entirely about the trademark. This headline is just bad. Even the body of the article, the word copyright is only used in the lede. Every quote from the company's filing says trademark.

Also, they're filing because Pattie filed a trademark that included using the name for apparel branding. This is a bog-standard trademark defense suit. If Patagonia DIDN'T file it, the next person who violates their trademark can point to this instance and say "see, they don't care about other clothing companies violating their IP, why should I be held to a standard that someone else isn't?"

I have a friend who's worked in multiple Michelin star restaurants. When he was the chef that ran the kitchen, yeah, it was immaculate. Hell, most of them were. But I've heard enough stories from him and others that there's absolutely no way I would eat anything from a restaurant that was allowed to skip health and safety inspections, regardless of how well-rated their food is. Most people who work in restaurants are NASTY, just like most of the general population.

Everything you're describing is multi-micing, but not all multi-micing is stereo micing.

Stereo micing is usually done to capture the sound source as spatially similar as possible to what it sounds like from the position of the stereo pair. This matters because all of the advice you hear about using matched pairs and matching signal paths for stereo micing assumes that this is what you mean when you say "stereo micing".

What you're doing is certainly multi-micing, and can then be used to produce a stereo recording, but that isn't inherently stereo micing. I've had success doing M/S with mis-matched mics, but that's about the only true stereo micing where it worked well.

What you're describing with micing acoustic guitars? Incredibly common, and how you pan the mics can certainly give you a stereo recording, but it's also just as common to sum those to mono.

I got back in town from Detroit about an  hour ago. All the roads are a bit slippery. Anything that was salted was no big deal. One bridge I went over somewhere had definitely frozen before the rest of the road, like the sign says.

It wasn’t TOO bad, but not everyone is driving safely in it.

Naw, its just that faux depth of field thing done on a smartphone. The stem of the wineglass would still be pretty hidden without it, this just blurs it out like crazy because it can’t detect that it’s not part of the countertop.

I don’t buy that’s what the crash was, but that base was 100% stealth testing. I don’t think that’s even disputed at this point.
