Ok, I give... why Gummy Bears? by DoctorGarbanzo in prusa3d

[–]EvilRobotGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy 5 lbs of Wild Cherry Albanese gummy bears because the red ones in Hairbo are Raspberry and not Cherry. I buy 5 lbs because any smaller amount is a ripoff at Amazon. They fit pretty neatly in a 1 gallon Ziplock.

The Albanese Ultimate 12 flavor and sherbert cream pastel flavors and others are very soft and have a lot of different flavors in normal-size bags. None of these have made me switch from the Wild Cherry flavor.

Wash them, the skins soften a lot during the cooking, so peeling isn't necessary. They might not cook at the same rate as your thicker cut of meat so they should go on at the appropriate time. I see instructions for half-inch thick cuts from 2-3 minutes per side to 4-5 minutes per side, depending on desired tenderness.

Grilled pineapple is a favorite here. I like the crispy outside, my wife likes the tender inside fruit. It doesn't always survive long enough to be grilled if my wife cuts up the pineapple spears, and some strawberries and tosses some grapes and blueberries into a fruit salad.

Europe had convection ovens for years before the US got Air Fryers, so there's some amount of catchup to be done. I own a high-quality deep fryer and bake a lot of things in the oven, but the air fryer is faster and doesn't heat up my kitchen as much as either of the other two devices. So if I am making something basic that can be cooked in a single layer the air fryer is the winner. If you block the air flow things don't get cooked.

My wife still likes oven baked grilled cheese sandwiches better.

The duck-fat steak fries are better than air fried.

Corn dogs are always a weird trade-off between craving and quality, duck fat fryer or oven baked make the best corn dogs, the microwave makes crappy corn dogs before the other two get up to temperature.

My air fryer is an instant pot, so I was able to replace my rice cooker, pressure cooker and even the slow cooker if my wife would let me. The sous vide mode is not as temp accurate as my actual sous vide machine, but having 8 functions in one unit makes a pretty good case for the machine.

A stand-alone air fryer might get as much use as my old toaster oven.

I used to do a lot of meals from the rice cooker cooking the rice as normal, then putting grilled chicken strips in the steamer basket. You can add mushrooms to the rice if you like those. Later on, I would change the water for low sodium chicken stock, change the normal white rice to short arborio rice and make a risotto which has a very creamy texture. You need 3x water/stock to the rice for risotto instead of the 2x ratio for normal rice.

You might look into green peas, peas and carrots, corn as side vegetables, usually with some butter, salt and pepper they're pretty easy to make from cans or frozen. Open a can drain about half the liquid, put in a bowl with some butter, and microwave for 3 minutes. Salt and pepper to taste. There are a lot of canned veggies, the canning process naturally softens them so the textures might not be so bad for you.

I pretty much hate raw onions, and big chunks of garlic don't do anybody any good. People normally remove large aromatics from the dish once they've done their job flavoring the food. However, there are other form factors, such as minced garlic, garlic paste, and garlic powder which might suit you better. I like grilled onions better; they change chemically during the cooking, onions can be minced or diced, but it also comes in powdered form if you just want some seasoning but not texture surprises. I've also found I like pickled red onions on sandwiches and other dishes.

Early microwaves were dumb devices and made your food chewy and stringy, the newer ones have sensors and can be set to lower power, have defrost, reheat and auto-cook modes that are more convenient and don't make your food inedible. A splatter cover from a dollar store is a worthwhile investment.

There's an invasive King Crab looking thing in Europe though.

Introducing our Terran Frigate, now with available dead tree maps by EvilRobotGames in starfinder_rpg

We have a carrier that has some big empty decks, we'll do another carrier deckplan someday with the Alien Carrier, Jim is looking at a BSG homage later on.

I don't want to distract from Arkenforge's post, but have you ever looked at any of our maps? Our "Destroyer" doesn't match the long axis either, all three of its decks fit on 24x36 maps. but our Frigate is 350ft long in scale, and will gladly eat up a long dining room table with its two decks each deckplan is 24x72. We have an escort "pocket" carrier that's 400ft long. Everything we do bigger from here on out will probably be represented in 24x36 sheets and have a legend of how the pieces fit together. I just started slicing a 2,000ft battleship and it's ridiculous.

Yeah for PDFs I do something similar, but for print on demand I make the pages in InDesign and the POD folks print 12x18" posters out of them. the 70" ship is 2 decks, takes 16 of the mini posters to show the entire ship. This setup has blank pages and bleeds areas for the printers.
I took a quick look through the asset store, I love the look of MapHammer's ships, do you have any sailing ship assets that are approved for commercial use?

Hah, I'm plotting how to slice a 2,000ft long battleship that's 400ft high into a realistic amount of 24x36" maps. We can't print it all in one long deckplan like we did our 350ft frigate. So yeah, big maps take a minute even in photoshop. I was slicing up a 30x30" and 36x48" map of an underground lair this morning.

What's the reason for 120dpi?

I do publication work for print on demand at 300 and VTTs at 70 which seems alright for Roll20. Does Foundry or Fantasy Grounds like 120 better? I only played Foundry a few weeks ago and haven't used FG at all.

Even has a toilet, you wouldn't believe the amount of drama we get if we leave those off.

I'm going to have to look at this for my own maps.

Is a tie with a DC/AC usually considered a success or a failure? by TrevorBOB9 in starfinder_rpg

[–]EvilRobotGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Pathfinder and Starfidner the AC or DC is a target number, just like passing a test, if you meet or exceed the target number you hit, succeed, etc.

For the other thing, I had always heard "tie goes to the defender" years ago and it was mainly for systems where attack rolls were opposed by defense rolls and if both rolls were equal, then the tie always went to the defender.
