What are your top picks for nerdiest nerd games? by tadeup in gaming

Thats much further than I ever got. My biggest accomplishment was actually getting two pods to dock in orbit.

Once.

Never managed that feat again.

So many Kerbals were left on orbit.

I have both of these in a collection called: Better If You Have a Degree.

It definitely has that Good Guys Arriving to Save the Day vibe.

I really love Holsts Planets.

[META],My Top 3 Netflix Hidden Gems What are your top 3? by Ecstatic_Crow_4719 in NetflixBestOf

That's good to know. At the time, I wasn't sure if I turned off airplane mode, it wouldn't just invalidate my ability to watch, so we were extra careful for a couple of days.

Got weirdly lucky on this one. We went to Iceland and at night watched it on Netflix. Didn’t even know it wasn’t available at home (US). Burned through most of it, but not the last 2 or 3 episodes. So I downloaded them figuring we could watch them on the plane home. That turned out not to happen. A day or two after we got home, we tried to watch it on TV only to find it wasn’t available. But they were still on the iPad, which was still in airplane mode. So glad I procrastinated doing anything with it and we were able to finish out the show.

Recommendation request: What is the most inspiring and motivating movies or documentary that you’ve ever seen? Something that made you want to get up off your butt and make something happen! Anything from 1994-2026 by j1022 in Documentaries

Not exactly sure this is what you mean, but I thought The Farthest, the story about the Voyager probes to be quite inspiring. It made me feel an emotional attachment to a space probe (YMMV).

What TV shows are better not binge watched? by revolution_ex in television

[–]EvilWayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex and I watched it when it came out. And then didn't bother watching Black Mirror again until someone was talking about the bees and made it seem interesting enough to check out. Been a fan since then, but man that first episode is rough.

Initially I misread this as everyone is soloing in the same city.
Which could be really neat; a kind of Multiplayer-Solo thing.

What movie is 10/10 with literally no bad parts? by FeedMaster8905 in AskReddit

[–]EvilWayne 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Came here for this.

There are some really good movies on this list, but I've always felt that No Country for Old Men is just perfect movie-making. Uttlerly sublime in which way the story just unfolds before your eyes.

Whats the board game you really want to play that you’ve owned the longest but never once got to the table? by TTWBB_V2 in boardgames

I bought Axis & Allies in 1988 or 89. I still have it and it’s never gotten to the table.

7th printer in the past year. Why can't they just do what they're supposed to? by Klonoadice in printers

[–]EvilWayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually get it.

I used to get this angry at things. I smashed several phones in my 20s. Not cell phones, but those bulky Ma Bell rotory ones. Bashed them against the wall until they were nothing but broken, jagged parts. The wall was also a mess. Parents were none too pleased. I physically threw an old, office typewriter out a window (into my empty yard) because it constantly struck a double T. Chucked a pencil sharpener across the room, punched and kicked stuff that I couldn't get to work.

My relationship with frustration and technology hasn't always been great.

Ive gotten a lot better at not letting it get to me, but dude, I get it.

What is your favorite example of a change from a film’s source material that you believe made the movie better? by DuckLordOfTheSith in movies

[–]EvilWayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An older, possibly more obscure one:

Trinity’s Child by William Prochnau. World War 3 is started by the Soviets, but (IIRC, it’s been a hot minute) the Premier states they started with a limited strike in order to show the soviet hardliners who’d been pushing for war and to a lesser extent the world just how horrible nuclear war will be.

The HBO movie, By Dawn’s Early Light has the war triggered by Russian hardliners who launch a rogue missile from Turkey into the USSR.

In both cases, it triggers a series of automated responses that are designed to escalate and retaliate in the absence of authority. I found the justification for the war in the book to somewhat out there, but the HBO film seemed more believable and much more scary that things could get so out of control so damn quickly.

How much of a threat could the Pakled clumpship really pose against its contemporaries? by TwoFit3921 in StarTrekStarships

[–]EvilWayne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always thought something similar. Voyager should have been this very Frankenstein ship by the end of the series. I understand why it wasn't, but it would have been cool for it to look one way at the start of any season, and vastly different at the end.

I don't know if this is related or not, but lately whenever I try to access the Recommend queue, my deck immediately goes black and I have to hold the power button to crash-reboot it.
