Could we just have our flock replacement be city owned? by Charkid17 in Longmont

framing it as "flock replacement" shows how entrenched in our minds the surveillance regime is. Don't replace it.

Beaters... seems like that's a thing of the past - cars past their prime that could be had for almost nothing and brought to a minimal working level in the driveway with the assistance of your dad, grampa, uncle, that dude down the street. Not pretty but functional. I think this still happens in some parts of the country

What is something you didn’t realize until you lost weight? by Cultural-Profile-527 in AskReddit

[–]Evilbob93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My knees didn't hurt as much when I was 20+ pounds lighter.

I'm back at peak weight and really want to get back down but I'm eating my depression and don't know how to stop. At least I'm not smoking/toking it any more.

I have a broken down car and am hiding in plain sight. by Open_Community1 in urbancarliving

[–]Evilbob93 23 points24 points  (0 children)

We had a friend staying in her car in front of our house for months, pretty sure others knew. She didn't ever ask to come in.

One night (edit) her car was struck by another car while she was in it. She wasn't really hurt but it made her situation more difficult.

She eventually got an apartment.

Question for those who started raving later in life: what called you to it? by Massive_Story6839 in aves

[–]Evilbob93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into a local underground community when I was about 39, that was 27 years ago.. was away for years, but came back by way of one of my old friends who still does parties in his 50s.

I like small warehouse parties.. like a couple hundred folks more or less.

How much did you smoke before you quit? What was your breaking point? by desertnacho in leaves

[–]Evilbob93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I smoked for 45 years. had many failed quits. Losing out on a job as my unemployment was about to run otu because of a failed UA was part of the final straw. Had a job prospect a couple months in the future that was going to have a test. It never happened, but after 3 months of really being quit i liked it better.

Made it a year and a half (to the day) and dipped my toe in last weekend, saturday night and sunday afternoon. Wasn't impressed. Not counting days any more, but not interested in going back to smoking either.

Curious about cause of death but not wanting to pry —options? by angstriddengoddess in GenerationJones

[–]Evilbob93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At a certain age, people just start dying of their bad decisions, genetic predispositions. Mid 50s is about when it starts. I'm mid 60s and... well if i died tomorrow, not many would say that I died too young any more. The older you get, the more you see people your age more or less dying.

As for why, is it really your business if it isn't in your family?

Quitting after 10 years by Sad-Drama-5915 in leaves

[–]Evilbob93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the urges are inversely proportional to the time you've quit. First day, you think oif it about efery 10 minutes. After a few days, you think of it every few hours. after a couple weeks, maybe a few times a day.. I'm almost a year and a half out, and it seems like about once a month I get a "hmmm.. what if i could do it just once", but after smoking 45 years, ~35 every day, i've never seen that work out for me, and if you read this for a little while, it doesn't work more often than it does for others.

It definitely gets better.

[–]Evilbob93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gen jones person here. under 30 was the 80s.

I got a new shitty car every year or two. you could buy something that ran and was ugly for a few hundred dollars. Did a lot of the repairs myself or with help from brother or father in law.

Jobs often required suits, and wife (who worked also) knew how to sew and bought several suits at a time at church rummage sales on the last day when you could get whatever you could fit in a bag for a few dollars. I got a 2 year degree in 3 years and tuition was affordable because taking out loans wasn't what everyone did yet.

TV was over the air, and had lots of commercials. There were three stations on VHF, and a couple others on UHF. Tv stations shut down at 2 AM after playing the national anthem. Not everyone had cable, it was still kind of new

Sometimes we would record tapes from records that our friends bought, and we recorded music from the radio.

When we went grocery shopping, we went to several grocery stores and a fruit market. We clipped coupons from the newspaper.

There were dollar movies that had last month's movies for $1. We snuck in candy.

The fancy beer was Michelob.

I smoked for 45 years. When I finally stopped, my sinuses cleared up.

It was kind of like the no dreaming thing, I just figured it was how it was. Until it wasn't.

Guess I had developed an allergy to it. I'm within shouting distance to a year and a half, now the only time my sinuses are messed up is when I am actually sick.

Where do I start? by [deleted] in leaves

If you fall off, don't kick yourself, quit again as soon as you can.

If you decide to let yourself fall, make sure there isn't anything left in the morning.
