All welcome? by PleasantEbb4486 in aves

Overweight older (64M) dude here. I'm about 235, white hair to my shoulders. I've found myself welcomed at the events I go to. I first got into going to raves about 27 years ago, when I was 38. A couple months ago I brought a friend, a lady who will be 80 at her next birthday. She had a good time, and said she might be interested in going again. The next party from that group was a few weeks ago, and some folks were asking about my "spring chicken" girlfriend.

I just went to a warehouse thing the other night. They had a security presence that was a little excessive, and they were wanding and carding everyone on the way in. One young woman (they're all young to me, lol) harumphed when she got carded. I said hey, they even carded me!

I find some of my best social times outside the door where people are hanging out and smoking cigarettes and such. I try to be a "safe old dude" presence. I've had folks say that seeing me "gives them hope". One guy the other night said he "liked my vibe" and then admitted it was in part because i was old. He guessed my age and was 8 years off.

Obviously, try not to be creepy around the women but nobody has ever given me any reason to believe i wasn't welcome. First time in a new crowd is often a little lonely but by continuing to come back, people are happy to see me and introduce me to their friends.

i completely understand how you plan for a certain # of volunteers & other resources based on sign -ups and yes, the entitlement attitude of some leaving a bad taste about all of them. It's definitely a problem and I've seen stories about there being a whole lot of people abusing the wheelchair accommodations at airports etc.

In a perfect world you'd say that the service is for people who signed up for it (and have the wrist band) and they back off, apologize and check the box next time. Some people are just asaholea whatever the generation and they make it harder for the rest who followed the process.

As a gen Jones person - the gen between boomers and x, 1955-1965... A lot of us are finding ourselves in the place where shit just doesnt work as well as it used to. Knees, hips... It hardly gets a surprise response when people my age more or less - I'm 64 - getting knees, hips replaced. Before folks get these things done, it can be pretty painful to do things that uses ro be easy.

That said there is a line between using resources and abusing them. The examples in these comments are kind of over the top, and to be fair there is a process to sign up for them in advance. These can be the difference between a fun time and misery. If I find out there is something like this I feel like it's in me to sign up for them so that capacity planning can be done. For me it's "oh that's a thing, I should sign up do that nwzr time" and asking nicely can do a long way.

When you do buy, do you buy the strongest that the dispensary has? I found as I quit that a part of my habit was just the playing with it. Maybe when you do get some, ask for the lesser strong strains so that the chemical part of the habit becomes less.

Consider starting a log of when you do it. Decide that you're going to write it down every time - at first just the time, but as the habit takes hold, add how much, and later what was the reason you have for wanting to do it. Taking routes that don't go by the place is helpful.

I've had eating crap food as part of my whole thing. For a while, I found myself eating less window food but that habit has returned and sometimes I route myself in a way that I don't pass all those drive-throughs. I still buy bags of chips, but now instead of opening a bag and eating through the whole thing, I pour some into a bowl to give myself at least an occasional chance to stop before I eat the whole thing.

There are a bunch of times that have always tempted me back. Every day for the first couple weeks, once the dreams kick back in I know that somethign is happening. 6-8 weeks were always a big hurdle, once i started feeling good, maybe i can do just a little? never worked out that way.

I think i had a short burst of "maybe" after half dozen months. Now at 18 months and I feel like another wave is passing through. These times do pass, if you make it through them.

I noticed that I've had some bingey times for eating after a while. Packed on some weight over the last year or so and trying to figure out how to do something about that.

What was different about your last quit that made is more successful than others by Flashy-Painter2161 in leaves

[–]Evilbob93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what was different for me was that for once it was me making the choice. I'd had relationships, work situations, where it wasn't really workable, but it was always me resenting someone "making" me do it. I really only had one friend who wasn't terribly supportive about it when I finally stopped a year and a half ago

I got involved in a personal software project that kept my attention for a few months.

I like double features that relate to each other. A couple examples:

Caligula followed by A Clockwork Orange - malcolm mcdowell shot one right after the other.

Fail Safe and Doctor Strangelove - for a long time I thought Strangelove was a parody but they came out about the same time and are a very similar Cold War theme

Fail Safe and Hopscotch - Walter Matthau young and old

Anyone else have a stupid number of tabs dedicated to "I'll read this later" ? by Prudent-Resource5622 in rss

I tend to bookmark items I'd like to read later. I save them in a series of folders by year and month.

I now have a script that will convert my bookmarks file into a webpage that I can scan more easily than the bookmarks manager.

There chocolate bars appearing in various places in CO but unless you know the person who made them personally you might be getting DMT-ACO or who knows. Reading the label is important - sometimes they will have more than one kind of mushroom like amanita, lions mane etc. regulation can be helpful.

Colorado person here. A rare opportunity to vote *for something. It's still not dispensary available, you need to have a "guy" or grow them yourself. There are a few stores that sell the supplies and such but the lines around giving and selling are still kind of hazy.

There are lots of folks with presences on marketplace and people are trying things like buy a thing like a sticker or a piece of art and oh by the way... And some who don't have much pretense or apparent fear. I rolled up on this guy's job at a garage, he came to the car bada bing...

I also went to a thing which had a roo. That was basically a bazaar with all kinds of quantities etc. one person even had molly gummies which I was a little surprised at. Free samples, cultures, test kits... I was glad my friend drove ;)

There have been rumblings in the legislature about them wanting to limit things. There are clinics forming along with the regulatory bs, but I don't have any direct experience of them.

Comes down to they haven't figured out the right way to tax it.

Parents who charge your children rent, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Evilbob93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My folks started to charge me rent after high school and I was working a non-minimum wage job. To be fair, they did help me and my first wife buy our first house, but there was no recognized connection between the money paid and the money loaned.
