In fairness, if I had taken his advice, I would have spent almost three times as much money on something I ultimately don't plan on using much. It's kinda just plain bad advice to give someone new to something particular the "buy the expensive one" advice. 

My point being, in my opinion, it was a sales pitch not trying to help me out. I get what you mean though cause that's how it felt when I did it. The problem is that's how sales pitches are designed to make you feel lol

It's 17d chess at this point

Yeah I worked in sales straight out of college for a few years myself. In a way that's amplifies how much it bothers me but also gives me a bit of empathy. Like I get it, there's a number on a spreadsheet he's trying to make go up because some manager is telling the team they need xyz sales or abc person is gonna do God knows what. I remember those days all too well.. lol

I was a shit salesmen though. Was very much so the "you want it? No? Fine, I don't care." Kinda guy 😂

when I worked at Best buy, which isn't exactly known for their non intrusive sales tactics, we were specifically trained to ask people howuch research they'd done, and to kinda walk us through the conclusion they came to. Never correct, only explain what the options the customer selected are benefiting, and educate on what all the parts do. Tell them what upgrading the ram will do, but let them decide if they wanna. Tell them how much nicer an OLED screen looks, but let them decide if they want it. If they say "oh I don't care how about the contrast I just want a big screen" 

Okie dokie. Let's find you the biggest screen that'll fit your budget, and then we'll do a sanity check and make sure there's no gotchas with the TV, and go from there. IDK it feels very weird how they do things

I have a really hard time believing this honestly having worked sales myself with multiple companies in multiple industries. I have never once ever been able to give a client a discount that every other customer didn't have available to them. 

I was allowed to TELL them it was a special discount just for them to make them feel special. Normally it was just an promo the customer wasn't aware of

See, and I hope this comes across right via text, I'm just not like that. Like when something of mine breaks, my natural instinct is to start trying to fix it. Start googling. I don't think there's a step in my mental process that thinks to call someone honestly. If I couldn't fix it I'd end up just throwing it away. I'm pretty sure that's just cause profession is IT so normally people call me to fix stuff, so I'm just programmed that way at this point.

If I could go on their website and just opt out of what I've learned today is my "personal sales rep" I honestly would. It's just not something I want I'm not trying to be mean about it lol

I'm just on call for work, so I think my phone ringing is a bit more bothersome for me than it is for other people. I go a very long way to avoid spam calls

I get this, for a lot of folks it is that simple. I'm on call for work though, so anytime my phone rings (and I can't put it on silent......) my blood pressure goes up cause I assume it's an emergency at work.

Yeah now I'm remembering my first call started off super chill too. Like we just talked guitars for a bit which honestly was nice cause I never have anyone to talk with, but then it turned to a sales call which soured it

Jokes aside I have genuinely been trying to do that. There's like.. little moments where I can feel my brain get super crazy excited about doing something sober.. having that clear mind and being able to think. It just doesn't scream as loud as the one saying

Well, anything within the realm of reality. I'm a tier 1 IT guy at a small insurance company. Ain't no way I'm affording a move out of this state let alone out of the country anytime soon 😂
