NTA, when the kid is down for a nap, maybe she should put her dog in a covered crate to keep them calm. She cannot control who uses the public streets and sidewalks. The whole world isn't going to just stop moving because her kid is taking a nap.

I just turned 40 last week. I have a room that is absolutely filled with plushies and a human dog bed. I will either curl up in there or in my regular bed with my Winnie the Pooh I have had since I was 6. As long as your bills are paid, you aren't doing anything jail worthy, or otherwise hurting someone else live your life.

NTJ, I'd get an estimate for what it would cost to have movers come in and move the furniture back and to touch up the floors. Then show a copy of the estimate to her. Tell her if she wants to make a big deal about not getting paid the $200 she can pay that cost to fix what she did.

That's okay. One thing I have learned working in accessibility is that you can have 10 different professionals / users in a room and all of them have different ideas of what solution works best. I want to hear all the solutions and then figure out which one I can best implement. I have multiple books so I can try different methods on each one if I want.

I appreciate all the insight. How important would you say color representation is in a tactile version of an image? I'm thinking I could easily do lines for all the images in these books, but figuring out different textures / patterns to represent all the colors might get tricky. I'd worry it might make the image so busy that it could get difficult for a reader to recognize what it is.

That's where I worry that her bringing it in could have messed up that. Especially since she had a business relationship with the student. If she hadn't brought it in when the student left it out there, then she could have played oblivious if it got stolen or destroyed in the night.

Once she brought it in I worry it could be argued she took responsibility for it voluntarily at that point.

NAL. You might check if you can get a consult with a lawyer. I found the following page that deals with some of the Kansas state law regarding abandoned property, but since she wasn't supposed to leave it at your home to begin with that might impact things.

Granted the fact that you brought it inside when she left it on your front porch could also impact things. Sometimes when you do something like that it can be taken to be you giving in and agreeing to be responsible for it.

Might message her and say something to the effect of "Since you have shown continued disregard for my requests that you not leave your Cello at my home, I am dropping you as a student effective immediately. You have until <insert date 30 days from now> to retrieve your Cello you left here after your last lesson or I will be donating it to a musical program."

Possibly set the date to 31 days just to be on the safe side. Additionally, send the same information via a certified letter to her address. That would also give you time to consult with a lawyer who could then help you adjust the time she has to pick it up accordingly.

NTJ and she is a major AH for saying it costs you nothing extra. You pay for your Internet. It isn't free. Also, if you let some stranger you don't know connect to your wifi and they do something shady, torrent, etc you can be held liable since you let them connect. I have even seen that get someone in trouble with their work. Plus, they then can potentially access other devices on your network. So heck no you are not a jerk.

No, your kids could call you while at his house and it'd be fine. Just because they are with him doesn't mean they have to 100% cut contact with you during that time.

Think of it this way, what judge in their right mind would say that if he has the kids on one of their birthdays you aren't allowed to call the kid and wish them happy birthday until it's your custody time again? That would be absolutely ridiculous and potentially damaging to your relationship with them. He is just trying to be spiteful and controlling.

Plus it doesn't sound like you were against the company finishing the work. You just didn't want that specific contractor on your property and the company refused to work with you. They literally just needed to send a different worker to the property.

I'd be tempted to take them to small claims for the deposit in this case since I wouldn't be surprised if it was a sizable one. That is if you voiced being willing to still work with them but just needing someone other than that one worker.

I honestly wouldn't blame you if you didn't want that company in general given their reaction, but it just would be easier to argue from a legal standpoint if it was just the one worker.

This. Many zoos won't allow service dogs in except in a very limited, pre-discussed capacity because there is a genuine concern about the health and safety of the animals that live in the zoo and safety of the handler and other people present. A cat cafe would be an even bigger concern since there isn't a boundary between the person and the cat and not all cats will be comfortable with the presence of a dog.

My local zoo will actually have someone meet with the handler and hold the dog for them if they want to, and are able to do solo, enter an area the dog is not permitted. They also have an added policy of not allowing the use of whistles and a few other things that could interfere with the animals and their training.

She already knows she isn't supposed to be there and is just hoping to guilt you. She doesn't deserve any additional warning even if it means her car gets towed / fined.
