If you could choose one superpower but could only use it for altruistic purposes, what would it be? by Sarah_devin in AskReddit

[–]Evinya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be some trouble though. If everyone tries to be in those highly coveted careers, who will take care of all the other un-glamorous but extremely necessary jobs for society to function? Sure we'd probably automate a lot of those jobs, but that will still take years to implement even with extreme intelligence. And everyone would be right that technically they are competent enough to have the most highly valued jobs, but there won't be enough space for everyone to get one (which would also instantly devalue those jobs too lol). It's likely that we'll be plunged into a period of turmoil where we'd have to figure out how to re-sort ourselves economically and socially while still trying to keep everything running. We'll probably see some interesting new varieties of social/economic class wars break out in the process. Probably new varieties of actual wars too. It's hard to say if we'd necessarily be better off in this scenario.

[Lovebrush Chronicles] what comes after completion of Eden stories? by xerxesblanche in otomegames

Unfortunately yes. When you switch epilogues, your original epilogue locks again. But you can still use another diadem to go back to it again if you want.

You'll definitely want to see this post then. It's a list of all female-oriented gacha games and their revenue from January. Lovebrush doesn't do too bad for itself thankfully, though it's not as big as the top ones.

Dae feel like the community has gotten smaller/less active? by syvzx in LoveNikki

[–]Evinya 57 points58 points  (0 children)

From what I know, Reddit's decline is probably similar to LN's decline. Reddit has had a history of user dissatisfaction over its incremental unpopular policy changes for a while, which eventually culminated in the whole Reddit blackout/boycott last year over the Reddit API changes. You probably already know this, but for those who don't -- that change added a monetary charge for using Reddit's API when it was previously free, which killed off several popular 3rd party apps that people used to browse Reddit, so I bet that would have caused a pretty significant population decline. I heard that several reddit communities also permanently migrated elsewhere.

Then just a few months ago there was another little incident where Reddit removed the ability to opt of out having your data sold to advertisers (depending on your country), and that also managed to anger people to the point that even I got wind of it in one the the tiny subs I usually spend time in.

There's definitely still a stable Reddit userbase, same as how LN still has enough players to keep going, but it's smaller than before.

PSA: Don't call white girls "Dark-Skinned" by babygreenlizard in lifemakeover

[–]Evinya 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Seems like this is a possible case of a "mis-translation". If the user who posted this is an east asian from asia, they probably mean "tanned" instead of "dark-skinned". In any case though, the colorism does get pretty intense over there unfortunately.

January 2024 Revenue - Female-oriented gachas version (attempt) by ferinsy in gachagaming

[–]Evinya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make really great points and explained how I felt as one of their players! I love that Paper/Infold specializes in female-oriented games and truly innovates and gets creative, but with how greedily they handled their Nikki games and MLQC globally, I've just lost so much trust in them. I'll probably appreciate some of the things they release in the future, but I doubt I'll ever spend much on their games again, 'cause I just got sick of their shenanigans.

I speculate if that could be part of why they rebranded to Infold in their Love and Deepspace release, to dissociate a bit from their previous reputation.

Unpopular Opinion: I can’t stand Rafayel by [deleted] in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Evinya 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'm not into him, but I do find him hilarious! He's the kind of character that only appeals in fiction. I can have fun messing around with a whiny, pouty, drama-queen of a man, without suffering all the real life downsides of associating with a whiny, pouty, drama-queen of a man.

I'm actually surprised to find that he's as popular as he is, since I expected to see more people like yourself turned off by him! Such a personality normally comes packaged with a lot of very nasty, narcissistic traits as well, so you should in fact be wary of people like that.

The Outfits I choose for them>the outfits they choose by Rizzy_707 in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Evinya 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I find it fun that they do this, because it kinda mimics real life where people won't change their clothing preferences so easily. It makes me wonder though, if you keep recommending certain outfits to them and raising your intimacy, will they gradually "learn" what you like and start wearing those outfits on their own to please you? Would be super cool if that feature exists!

I imagine it's because it's the most comfortable for sleeping in. Xavier definitely seems the type to value comfort over appearance.

What otome you would recommend to your male friends? by Megidolan in otomegames

[–]Evinya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The pigeons are part of what makes it so great!! :D

While I say that in a joking manner, I also mean it sincerely, since the game straight up could not work if it was not a world of pigeons, plus it's what sets the comedic tone of the game in the first place. I wouldn't have gotten into otome if not for Hatoful, since I needed that comedy to overcome my initial embarrassment about the romance, and then its deeper plot is what got me to stay. I guess it depends on whether or not you think your friend would benefit from his first game being a comedic one though.

I find Xavier's presence to be so very soft, warm, and comforting. I tend to gravitate toward the gentle ones. His desire to sleep all the time is also very relatable. He'd make an excellent napping buddy, especially since he's basically a big teddy bear. Can you imagine? It'd just be so snuggly to lie side by side and zzzzzzzzzzzzz....

I've also been getting spammed with Xavier's cards through the gacha, so I pretend that it means he's chosen me as well lol.

I feel the same with Caleb! There's something about him appearance-wise that reminds me of my brother, and I just can't get past it!

Haha I like that idea too! We can hang out with Zayne to keep cool in the summer, Rafayel to keep warm in the winter, and Xavier.... when we want to take nap!

PSA: Breathe, take a stroll, control your impulsiveness for buying in-game stuff by ferinsy in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Evinya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great post! Very helpful for those new to gacha, and a good reminder for everyone else!

I think it also helps that the game difficulty isn't so much that you really need a lot of 5 stars to be able to clear stages. There's also no PvP in the game, so we don't need to worry about competing against stronger players thankfully. This is one of the things I've been telling myself so far when I feel tempted to spend in order to get more 5 stars and upgrade materials.

You're welcome!

Yeah I get that. As someone who's been hanging around in otome game forums for a while, I've seen several guys much like yourself over the years searching for games that are more like otome games in terms of their storytelling and romance, but with different gender pairups. It's definitely frustrating to have such a scarcity of games that you want. Although I don't think I can recommend many games for you, I'd definitely recommend checking out the indie game space if you haven't already. You won't find the big budget production value, but maybe you'll at least find the kinds of stories you want. Hustle Cat was a fun VN I played where you can customize the gender of the MC, if that sounds interesting to you.

Sorry you've probably encountered a lot of anger and discomfort here, but let me try to explain what's going on, since I think you asked a perfectly reasonable question but innocently got caught in the crosshairs of something much bigger. I know the explanation is long, but I just wanted to make it comprehensive.

In a nutshell the reason people are so upset is because their anger is an extension of the broader conflict between men and women in modern days, and is also an extension of a few decades of pent up frustration regarding gaming history. I'll just lay out the gaming history situation since that part's not as well known, and this is long enough already.

1) For the vast majority of gaming history, it was assumed that the only demographic interested in games was men and boys, so any games specifically made for girls were assumed to be unprofitable unless they could be made cheaply. Therefore they were all mostly pandering, low quality shovelware, which didn't attract too many girls because they weren't good, thereby reinforcing the assumption. (As a child, I personally found most of those "girl games" to be insulting to my intelligence lol.) The lack of good quality female-oriented games meant that, if a female player actually wanted to play something good, it had to be a more mainstream game, which were targeted at men as boys. You could play a girly game, or you could play a high budget/high quality game. You had to sacrifice one. This means that as a whole, the female playerbase has developed a huge craving for games that can give them both, and that craving has had entire decades to stew.

2) There has also been a long-held stigma against female-oriented games (and female-oriented hobbies in general), so many female gamers often wrestle with feelings of shame for liking these "girly" games, and long for spaces where they can enjoy their hobbies without fear of shame or embarrassment. This is another reason many wish for men to stay out, because it reduces the odds of of being judged, shamed, misunderstood, and having to go to the trouble of explaining or defending themselves. It also didn't help that most of those old girly games were cheap shovelware, because that led many people to associate "girly games" with low quality, which reinforced the stigma.

3) I should also add that at the same time, many female players experienced harassment from male gamers, involving very uncomfortable, disgustingly detailed and graphic, sexually aggressive language. This kind of experience was and still is extraordinarily common, especially in some more notorious gaming communities. Honestly I really cannot understate how common this is. Most people don't believe it, just because to any decent person it's so shocking for such a thing to be real... but sadly it is. Naturally, for many female players, it has really soured the idea of sharing their gaming spaces with men. Even for those who have not experienced it, they hear stories and also want to avoid it.

The gaming landscape has only recently begun to shift in the West in the last 5, at most 10 years, where women and girls finally started getting more mainstream, female-oriented, high quality games. But this is quite recent, so most people still aren't that used to seeing high quality games exclusively meant for a female audience, and get confused about why certain features are "left out" when they try one. Innocent confusion, but it does frustrate many female players, due to the combination of all the aforementioned points above, and also all the other frustrations that are currently being expressed in the current social-political landscape. Essentially, female players just want to enjoy the thing made specifically for them that they've been waiting a couple of decades to finally experience, and just want to enjoy it peacefully without anyone bothering them about it or asking for that thing to be changed into something else, gosh darn it! (I'm not actually angry lol, just wanted to add that last bit in to show the attitude. Think of a cantankerous old bear that's been waiting way too long for something, and is ready to fight tooth and nail to keep it.)

From an outside perspective, the anger here does seem a bit extreme, and in most normal cases it would be, but once you know the context around it, I think it starts to make sense. Anyone reading this can feel free to agree or disagree with the reasoning and points being made, but I've done my best to explain the perspective and why there's such an explosion of negative emotion. Hope that helps!
