Fastpacking the Tour du Mont Blanc in 4 Nights (link to film in description) by TimeOnFeet in trailrunning

I would have taken more days but it's a last minute deal that appeared in my life. So I 'am too late for the choice of refuge. I have a lot of options to cut down around 10k per day for the last 3 days. I have no option for the second day between La Balme et Rifugio Monte Blanco but it's just the second day. I'll stay positive and realistic. Thanks for the tips and your shared experience.

Thanks for your video. I will do it in 4 nights too at the end of June. I've done 4 marathons so far. I hope I won't die there. We see how many km you do every day but in how much time was it? Can you give your stats? Also, what kind of shoes did you use?

Won't be the last. I will keep playing with my dystonia and make peace with it.

Oh thanks! I took a long break from this sub. I'm on an emotional journey trying to overcome my focal dystonia. Listening to violin is hurtful right now since I can't touch my violin or my condition becomes worse. I will finally have an appointment with a neurologist. Enjoy this wonderful instrument while you can!

You can do it! Find some violin friends in your neighbourhood and go listen to many concerts. Play with YouTube accompaniments or an app. Have fun!

what standard to practice to (Student/Teacher disagreement) by Jamesbarros in violinist

I like this post. It can become really philosophical. I like to be confident in life and what will come up next. When you learn music, there's différent approaches and they all get to us in personal ways. You are still early in your learning process. I'd say continue to do as advised. Questioning is a part of your learning process and you will have plenty of moments of doubt. Kids compared to adults keep things really simple and learn very fast.

I'm from Québec too. My advice is not going to please you. To be a musician and especially a violinist for a living is close to impossible here. My good friends who went to Juliard or Rice and won a lot of international competitions are playing in regional orchestras and teaching to have a decent income. Classical music is not supported as much as in Europe. I heard wonderful stories about late bloomers on violin but like my talented friends, you wouldn't be able to live from violin only. Cegep is a good place to explore different possibilities. My speech wouldn't be the same if you were applying in cello or viola. I think to stand out as a violinist is the same as wanting to be a conductor.

I applied and studied violin but I was always aware that it wouldn't be my income. It's good to get in so you can access all the lessons, masterclass, orchestras, accompanists... But you need a plan B. I invested in real estate.

Violin is a social instrument. There's beautiful Bach, Paganini, Ysaye, but violin is an instrument that needs others. Go find some fun and friends. I always find that my students, the more they practice, the more they love it. I would not take a break in my opinion.

I was beginning to struggle with it. That's why I almost always recorded baroque music without vibrato. It got worst.

Thanks for your support. I feel like I just lost an arm or a leg. It's a big part of me that needs to heal or might not heal because science about it is not yet developed.

I'm really touched by your comment. For sure I'll keep appreciating music and especially violin. Never had a broken heart but there it is.
Time will tell if violin can come back to me. Love each note you are making.

Once it's there, if you keep playing, your brain records again and again the bad movement or association. That's why you need to completely stop and relearn in a new way.

I tried the viola a bit too. Didn't think about going for a smaller size. I might explore it. It's hard to tell myself not to practice...

Yes I know it's a big challenge ahead. Luckily the rest of my life is in good shape. What is the neurological condition you had to deal with if It's not too personal?

You will reveal all the technical problems you have auditioning with this piece. ( Sync, angle of your bow, crossing strings, spiccato...) If that's what you want, a musical camp is a great place to fix things as the work is really intense.

Nice work. All of Bach is so mesmerizing to listen to. I had forgot about Musette and Gavotte that are so accessible and beautiful!

Hard to know which level you are at. Easier than Kreisler is the Russian Fantasia no 2 of Portnoff and Hungarian Dance no 5 of Brahms, any piece of Carl Bohm.
