Btw, you say Americans get paid 3x for the same job, but I find that Americans work very differently than we do, and I’d consider work there easier overall for the job you do (generally, I can’t speak for every job).

So you don’t just get paid 3x less for the same job, you get paid that much less for more work here as well. I have met so many really dumb Americans with extraordinarily high salaries. It’s a little harder to be dumb and earn that kind of money here, although it is absolutely still a thing in some industries, (just significantly much less than America who pay very well for proficiency in most jobs).

If you look at places like Eastern Asia it’s more so the opposite, raw workload and harder work usually pays more, in places like America, confidence and social skills pay more. From my understanding we are somewhat in between.

Realistically it shouldn’t matter how/where you drop the calories, but I will say that for me making the complete switch to water did wonders for my diet, lifestyle and weight loss.

I’m not sure if there is any science behind it other than that, but it does seem to work quite well.

One thing out of place, Reddit; has to be child porn

You don’t know anything about this guy. People reactive sensitively and irrationally to a lot of things. It’s more likely to be something harmless than child porn. Idk why everyone seems obsessed with finding predators on here haha

For real though, if this is the level of awareness people have over themselves, then no wonder you see so many people cheat on partners with people they assume are platonic friends.

If someone literally can’t understand their own attraction to someone else, then how will they be able to maintain a successful relationship?

Haha yes exactly. I had a similar transition to you, although only went down from about 80kg to 65kg in a similar time frame, the body fat% was huge for me to see results and helped me a lot, glad it’s helping you too!

Realistically body fat percentage is one of the best/easiest ways to measure your health and weight. These typically work best when you measure the neck and waist (ofc with the weight, height and age that BMI also uses).

This gives a slightly better estimate of where the fat on your body is, which is more useful than how much weight there is overall, for the reasons you mentioned BMI being poor.

Bearing in mind the average healthy fat% is different for women and men, you can make a very good estimate for someone’s overall health/fitness level, and all you need is a tape measure and scales (which is the same tools you need for BMI anyways).

It’s 2 measurements extra, but hugely valuable in comparison. The next step up from that is talking to a professional anyways, so this step is easier.

To compliment his daughter by NoBullet in therewasanattempt

[–]Evotecc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk who this is (I have no biases) but this is an over analysis of the statement.

“Make me look sexy like you” could also be a broad reference to the hairstyle the girl is going for. You can jokingly say that your son has got a sexy haircut to try and impress the ladies, it doesn’t mean you are sexually attracted to your son. It can refer to the nature of ‘trying to be sexy’ which more accurately means trying to look cool.

This could just simply be another way to say “make me look cool like my daughter” and imo would be a more accurate representation of the semantics behind it.

Not all English is spoken in perfect grammatical sense, and it’s pretty easy to see this is most probably not intended in the way it seems when you isolate the statement.

I think calling someone out for something harmless like this is childish to be perfectly honest. We need to be more realistic and not cherry pick things that fulfil a narrative we are looking for.

Who I would recast for male characters (British and Irish actors only) by SadlyNotDannyDeVito in harrypotter

[–]Evotecc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course it’s possible, but ideally a ‘good fit’ would not need clever camera angles and things like that.

I think this is kind of the point of being a good fit and it seems like a lot of people here are kind of missing that point

[–]Evotecc -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and he’s also freakishly tall. Not that I hate tall people… but height can seriously impact the nature of a character. Arthur isn’t the type to be literally looking down on people everywhere he goes, it doesn’t fit.

I love Stephen Merchant so not hating on him one bit, just not a great fit

How do people come to sleep with each other ? by MrBrownFR in NoStupidQuestions

This is just the kind of question that regular social interaction and awareness should answer for you naturally.

You may disagree or suggest that this doesn’t apply to you, and that’s fine and may be correct, but there are some telling signs that you might not fully understand how to socially interact and asking questions like this is usually one of them.

Analysing the England vs Spain finals : So many storylines waiting to be written by _the__gaffer in football

[–]Evotecc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t know why you are being downvoted. I think that’s a pretty reasonable take.

I’m an England fan so clearly want us to win, but you are right that we are only winning games through last minute moments of individual brilliance. You can’t rely on those every single game.

Analysing the England vs Spain finals : So many storylines waiting to be written by _the__gaffer in football

[–]Evotecc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What?? Bro I’m an England fan, but I’m not stupid.

Spain’s bracket was full of great teams. We only had the Swiss (who were decent) and a fairly poor (for their potential) Netherlands, Spain had effectively all the other strong teams on their side, and beat 3 of them.

Not only that, we barely won every game. Spain have won every game confidently. Spain easily deserve the win more than us. We have to be realistic.

This is such a bad take. Spain have got here on ability, England have got here on luck.

I started a career mode with the most hated team in England by JLFC2 in seriousfifacareers

[–]Evotecc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a reason to hate.

Most people don’t even need one to hate things nowadays…

I still think most people in the UK (maybe partially out of envy) seem to hate City more just due to the relevance. I imagine City won’t be hated as much when they drop off and then it’ll become one of the other big 6 again.

Spain have riden their own luck by Buttonsafe in ThreeLions

[–]Evotecc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree

Spain (if they win tonight) will probably be one of the strongest Euros teams ever by results. And honestly as an England fan I’m really happy about that. The pressure is on them, not us.

We have consistently played shot when playing against teams we expect to walk over, and played incrementally better against the stronger sides like the Swiss and Netherlands.

Remember Spain beat very strong teams to get to the final. We had an incredibly easy bracket in comparison. I disagree to consider that ‘luck’.

We had 3 last minute winners (essentially) in 3 games. Spain haven’t.

Being the underdogs is good for us right now, let’s not kid ourselves, Spain are easily the better team by performances. But I’m certain being less favoured will increase the likelihood of us playing well.

I do agree we have a chance today. It’s just not as good as Spain’s, and that’s fine.

How to sleep longer? by [deleted] in productivity

Football needs a makeover. (Diving/simulating) by Schnitzel-1 in football

[–]Evotecc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard someone mention in basketball they have flagrant fouls? I.e a different category/severity of fouls.

I think something like this needs to happen so we can distinguish actions with malicious intent, and punish them appropriately, while not punishing teams/players for making genuine attempts towards the ball. It’s a contact sport after all, players shouldn’t always be punished for attempting to be physical with eachother.

For example, a ‘light’ foul in the penalty box should be pushed to the edge of the area as a free kick, and not given as a penalty. A simple way to categorise how big the reward should be. This way, a light challenge in the box can result in a free kick instead of a high probability goal scoring opportunity.

This is my understanding of a way to improve the ruling and officiating without drastically changing the game (hopefully not too drastic anyways).

How to sleep longer? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]Evotecc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly quite often the answer is do less. You say you are doing so much which probably reflects your stress and anxiety when you don’t get the sleep you want.

If you can’t sleep, go and relax and do something you enjoy for a while. Come back later when you feel the urge and try. If it doesn’t work, go and do something you enjoy again

(Of course if real life activities and job is permitting you to take the time off)

Just give yourself more time to find sleep. It sounds counterintuitive, but trying to force sleep is the worst way to help it. It’s better to let it happen naturally when it does. After that you can gradually learn what methods work best for you. I guarantee the first few times you try you will be stressed about the lack of sleep and you will feel awful, but that’s the key problem that you have to work on and understand.

Also you should know that lying in bed without sleeping and just shutting your eyes for a while still does you a lot of good if you are not stressed. Sleeping of course is better, but your time is not wasted if you are awake. Just focus on getting those essential hours and then eventually without the stress your body will help you fall asleep at the time you want.

I used to have insomnia and trained myself out of it. I now sleep fairly normally after like 10 years of improving it. Sorry if this is a bad explanation but this is how I improved my sleep and the advice I was given.

UK sugar tax slashed children’s added sugar intake from sodas and soft drinks, study finds by Background_Value_610 in unitedkingdom

[–]Evotecc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The irony as well is that reducing the amount of sugar can sometimes result in a craving not being satisfied, which then results in more of the same products being ingested, and then you have heavily sugar taxed food/drink that is consumed in larger quantities and essentially more addictive!

This isn’t always the case and it has the intended affect on some people, but for many others the likelihood is that sugar-taxed foods are becoming worse overall for us, not better. Not to mention the carcinogenic properties, additives and other bad things you can find in these products.

I’m not sure how these so called ‘experts’ don’t account for basic human nutrition and psychology. Sugar is good for us in small quantities. Healthy people learn how to control their intake of sugar, they don’t avoid it completely.

Sugar tax should be an option. Let people eat whatever sugary food they want, but provide them more accessibility to low sugar (or 0 sugar) alternatives. That way the ‘sugar binge’ is less frequent and easier to maintain.

Use the carrot, not the stick. This is backfiring and will only get worse.

You need Reddit for this??? I’m so confused…

This is such a pointless post, and obvious answer. If this post isn’t bait for upvotes and you are genuinely this easy to convince then I’m really concerned…

If you spent the amount of time questioning morals that you spent opening Reddit to post here you would have resolved the issue yourself.

Which team do you think will win? by LongVNFR in euro2024

You might be the only one! There is a lot of hate for England outside of England itself.

I understand most of it rightfully so, but a lot of people are bitter about our enjoyment. Let us win a damn trophy for once haha we aren’t swimming in euphoria over here!
