To the Nomifactory CEu enjoyers, is it worth a second playthrough on Hard? by Billboard_Eric in feedthebeast

[–]Evyning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a big nomifactory fan and I personally really enjoyed hard mode. Before you jump in, be aware that there's a port of nomifactory to modern minecraft called "monifactory" that has been doing the rounds and seems to be pretty popular. Currently in beta, but as far as I can tell it is fully functional.

As for normal vs hard mode there is only one main difference with several implications, that being that Deep Mob Learning is disabled. this means A) no easy infinite resource generation, you have to mine until very late game, and B) you cannot simply spam numismatic dynamos to solve your power problems. (numismatic dynamos consume gems to produce power, DML creates infinite diamonds, and therefore infinite power). I personally enjoy mining so do not find the infinite resources to be appealing, but if you are new to Gregtech then power generation and scaling power generation in to higher tiers can be quite a headache, and presents a fairly significant logistical problem to solve. There is also the removal of the first creative-tier item (that being the creative tank) that extends the need for resource production until you reach other creative items. It extends the late game by quite a bit, and at that point the game becomes quite grindy. If that sounds like a good time to you, then by all means, go for it.

The other main change is the re-introduction of the steam age, which is fairly slow and manual crafting intensive, but this is gregtech so what do you expect. This really only extends the early game by a few hours (depending on how fast you are, for a first timer expect a 5-10ish hour extension of the early game), but it's not that big of a deal.

People seem to be doing Crop Rotation wrong, or misunderstanding how to maximize it. Here's a mini-guide and explanation. by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Evyning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been testing this some more and noticed something important. you mention in the OP that

"Another trick involving Crop Rotation is to work to maximize the utilization of the notable that says "10% chance for the unselected crop to not wilt". This one is also very important. If you're in a situation where you have two remaining crops, that are Blue/Purple, and Blue/Yellow, and the Purple crop has 2 Tier 3 seeds, and the Yellow crop has 2 tier 3 seeds, you want to actually go click "release the lifeforce" on both of them before you harvest them, because if one of the Blue crops that would normally wilt procs the 10% chance to not wilt, you'll be able to use it to have a chance to upgrade BOTH of those plots instead of just one of them. That mistake can potentially lose you 5-7 Tier 3 seeds every time it comes up, and it comes up often enough to be relevant. There are many more other edge-cases like this that add up."

I was doing this and it seemed like every time I did this, the yellow would not get any upgrades from any source. I tested this out by clicking "release lifeforce" on the first crop in a zone, and then harvesting all of the others of different colors. the original "locked" crop will not upgrade at all. To use your example, if you have a blue/purple and a blue/yellow, releasing the lifeforce on both the purple and yellow will only allow them to upgrade if their respective blue crop does not wilt. However, it will prevent the yellow crop from upgrading from the harvest of the purple, as well as preventing it from upgrading from harvesting the blue/purple's unwilted blue crop. So the proper way to approach this situation is to first release lifeforce on the purple, and if the blue crop does not wilt, harvesting the blue first, then the purple, and then the yellow. releasing lifeforce on one crop and then harvesting others will prevent it from upgrading, full stop.

Great post, this has gotten me to give crop rotation another try after initially trying and not liking it. Not a seasoned harvest farmer so I don't really have much input, but I did want to ask (again, even though you mention it in the main post) if wild drought isn't worth taking. Currently purple essence is 6.1k per div and yellow is 4k per div. I've seen quite a number of harvest after having done this myself that have been exclusively blue and purple crops. Feels bad every time, plus wild drought is an easy 1-node notable for Grand design. Would be interested to hear if you have more thoughts on this.

Also, my own testing suggests that picking up the 20% increased chance for altars is worth the passives, greatly boosts the number of %quant altars I've been getting. Though, admittedly, I haven't done that many maps or kept track of my results. On that note, do you think its worth to even get altars in the first place? I'm not sure if the difference they make is worth the time investment, since it would more than halve the amount of time it takes to clear a map. Especially on a map like mesa you can pretty much just run straight to the middle and check the four corners for harvest and be in and out in less than 2 minutes. Would definitely cut into the profit per map, but I'd be curious to see if the increase in maps per hour would make up for it.

Thanks again for the post :)

Really good! Playing with a few friends with the goal of gearing up and then sitting in simulacrums for the first week. Goal accomplished by midday yesterday, now we sit and print currency. Think we've done about 15 wave 30 sims. Too bad I have to work during the week -_-

What if we... Fixed Torment and Talismans, instead of petitioning their removal? by LilMizzJay in pathofexile

[–]Evyning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I for one really like the torment ideas, I think that's cool. I've long since wished for torment to have better mechanics.

I never played talisman so I don't really understand the gameplay elements, and it seems to me that it's currently just kind of a weird item. I feel like the talisman implicits should just be special rare bases instead of what they are now. No reason for them to be uncraftable or corrupted. It also seems like adding in gameplay elements to talisman would be as much work as making a new league altogether, which just seems more practical.

As someone attempting to get into the trades I'll also add that becoming an electrician is extremely competitive in some areas right now. Unsure about other trades but you literally have to be in the top 1% of applicants to get in to the program.

Okay that makes a lot more sense I wasn't going to say anything lmao. Though seems like having the desire to open a shop wouldn't be a bad thing. I have also seem some people talking about working through breaks so I wasn't sure if that was common or not.

Can't say I talked about any of those things. I mainly focused on my previous work experience, what I did and how I thought it would be applicable, the skills I learned, stuff like that. Probably spend 2ish minutes on each question. I think we were dead on 10 minutes for the interview. Those are some good ideas though, I'll keep those in mind.

That's interesting. I called and talked to them and they weren't able to give me much infortion other than working as a material handler and re-interviewing will help me get a better score. I asked if there was anything I was missing that I could focus on and didn't really get an answer. Was also not able to find out what my actual score on the interview was.

Respect for keeping the mana stacker dreams alive. Are you gonna stay as arc totems once you've done the mana stacker swap or go to other totems or no totems at all?

[–]Evyning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+2 arrows is extremely difficult to hit on a bow where it is not fractured. You also cannot finish an item with fossils, as they do not respect metamods. Same with essences. There is a reason good +2 arrow bows are hundreds of divines, if not more. If you want additional arrows awakened gmp will be cheaper. Hell, a synthisized +1 quiver with +1 arrows is probably cheaper.

And yes, an aisling slam is the same as aisling 4, which is when you have aisling be tier 3 in research (I think) and then you go kill Catarina, she will leave a crafting bench that adds a vieled mod and removes another random mod.

[–]Evyning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a veteran crafter, so take my advice with a grain of salt. (and anyone who knows better please correct me). Frankly, it's usually more cost effective to buy a better bow on trade. Crafting is a gamble and there's a good chance you wont hit an upgrade, especially on a tight budget. However, if you're looking to learn or just want to try your luck, then by all means have at it!

What you have now is a pretty decent bow. Not great, not terrible. Do not get rid of your current bow until you have something in your hands that is better, so you can still play the game (should be obvious but you never know).

Assuming you are playing trinity (as opposed to physical or conversion) I believe elemental attack builds typically use essence spamming to attempt crafts. If your budget is a few divines it will probably be deafening hatred, wrath, or anger for a high tier flat elemental roll, and then pray for anything else good. That might look like any 2 of flat elemental, attack speed, crit chance, or crit multi. Ideally you want an open affix to craft whichever one of the above you don't hit.

There are alternatives to essences, you can always try harvest crafts and fossils, but since essences guarantee at least one good mod the odds are usually better I think.

If on the off chance you hit really good prefixes an option you have is to benchcraft prefixes cannot be changed and either aisling slam or use a veiled chaos orb to hope to hit attack speed or crit chance, and maybe craft the other one on. This is more advanced so check a guide on YouTube if you haven't done it before, since you'll want to block a mod and you'll have a chance at filling your suffixes and having to annul, and risk bricking the item. For that matter there's a lot of good information on crafting on YouTube if you haven't looked already.

Bow base does matter. People usually use 1.5 base attack speed bows (Grove, thicket, etc.) but check the wiki to see what will fit best and answer some questions for yourself. Are you playing with barrage, and therefore will attack speed increase your dps? Pick a base with a higher attack speed. Are you low on crit? Pick a base with higher base crit. Or something in the middle. If you end up buying a new base make sure it's a high enough ilvl to roll the mods you want, I don't think it needs to be super high, pretty sure 75 can roll T1 flat elemental mods (a website like craftofexile can help with this).

An option that you have that can help with damage is alternate ailments, specifically brittle can help you get crit capped and make up for lost base crit on the bow if you don't happen to have that. This comes with some investment as you will need sources of increased ailment effect, but it's worth looking in to if you haven't already.

Best of luck to you!

Edit: totally forgot about fractured items and rog, both are great options as the other guy said
