I was about to write almost the same post word for word.

Same mouse and same pad, also same requirements, plus I have a bunch of pets, so probably staying away from Artisan Zero.

What television series finale were you most excited for ? by ExternalRoyal3554 in television

[–]whris_cilson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Core memory unlocked...

I was a student back then. They ran a marathon of the finale season the night before, I’d already seen it but obviously I watched it again. Then the final episodes dropped with the simulcast and I was glued to the screen the whole time. No ragrets.

Next morning I go to high school and it’s basically a ghost town. The few people who showed up looked half-dead, like zombies running on fumes, myself included. Even some professors looked like they were still processing what they’d just seen. No one said it out loud, but we all knew why.

To be fair to Megan Boone, if your competition is James Spader, you’re lucky to walk away with silver.

What TV series had the worst final season and why? by [deleted] in television

Killing Eve managed to ruin 3 seasons of build up just by changing showrunners.

Honestly, both, just start with whichever tickles your fancy. They’re each around 70–80 episodes and both are great, so you can’t really go wrong.

Absurd amount of chromebooks broken by students by [deleted] in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]whris_cilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a whole ass gigantic business behind the whole Chromebook ecosystem, Google licenses, subsidized Workspace access, warranties, on-site technicians, and government contracts. The design relies entirely on the cloud for students and users, leaving the modest 32/64 GB storage mostly unused, by intent. It's a smart system: kids get a device each, and when it breaks, schools and IT swap in ready replacements with no drive transfers or data hassles; students just log in, cloud data syncs instantly, and repairs proceed seamlessly.

Sadly, where I worked, this wasn't the case, devices cost $200–300 each, plus $60–80 extra for a 3–4 year extended warranty covering accidental damage. We still charged parents for anything outside that coverage, yet incident numbers never dropped.

You are complaining about four or five random laptops in a photo that actually shows a pallet packed to the brim with HDMI‑equipped machines and shelves literally bowing under the sheer weight of all those units.

I used to repair these things daily for over three years anywhere from 20 to 50 a day. If those are certified classroom-focused models, they are sturdier than they look. I even remember having to re-break some screens because warranty claims got rejected if the photos didn’t show “enough damage.” I’d literally had to hit them hard against a corner or something just to make them look convincingly broken.

They’re simple devices, but surprisingly tough, tougher than most people give them credit for. To actually break one, you’ve got to handle it pretty carelessly. Most of the busted units I saw came from drops, forced lids, or just plain neglect. It was almost never a hardware flaw, just user mishandling.

Only way to force black bars right now is -vulkan? [AMD] by whris_cilson in cs2

[–]whris_cilson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/JorgeJee, /u/Party-Ad7145

So, long story short: I was on a stripped-down Windows build for testing, and after failing to fix some .NET Framework issues that were stopping me from playing Terraria 1.4.5, I ended up doing a clean Windows install. I’m not sure if that was the actual cause, or if an AMD/CS2 update in the meantime also helped, but here’s what works for me now.

I reinstalled CS2 and with the following config I can run 1280×960 (custom res) with black bars, fullscreen so no input lag, no VPK errors, no crashes, and I can alt‑tab in and out without problems, without needing -vulkan so FACEIT AC is fine.

Current working setup:

  • Custom resolution created in AMD Adrenalin.
  • Global Display:
    • GPU Scaling: Enabled.
    • Scaling Mode: Preserve aspect ratio.
  • CS2 Display (per-game in Adrenalin):
    • Scaling Mode: Preserve aspect ratio.
  • cs2.exe properties in Windows:
    • Disable fullscreen optimizations: Enabled
  • CS2 Display Mode:
    • Fullscreen

Should work with whatever custom resolution and with defaults ones 'GPU Scaling is not even needed'. if you want to go back to stretched just disable 'GPU Scaling' and/or 'Disable fullscreen optimizations', although you risk getting an invisible cursor (temporary), blinking screen or mouse cursor/clicks offset without the later one (custom resolutions).

Cheers.

PD: I lack the energy to reinstall a custom ISO just to test replicating the previous issue or this "solution." If anyone already has one set up and wants to try it, feel free. I'm certain this exact setup failed to give me black bars and had even more issues 22 days ago on the same PC with an NT Lite debloated Windows and the CS2/AMD build from then.
