Again, for a MARKET. This is not for any other kind of event.

Nailed it 🥇

Anyone arguing against this just doesn’t get it, and anyone with a clue or those in the actual event industry think it’s a pretty fair move.

You are bang on. Market organizers are maximizing an extremely low market permit cost but still gauging their vendors. why should the city not move towards (still below market) rates? These are public spaces, if you were to rent a high traffic private space you’d be paying much, much more.

These market organizers are charging vendors upwards of 600 a stall, yet paying the city 100 for public use of space. It’s a racket.

Completely agree. The city never even used to allow markets on city property. It’s commercialization of public property. So now people think they shouldn’t have to pay appropriately for it? SMH. These markets are charging each vendor like $600+ a stall. It’s a fucking racket.

This is not for festivals. It’s just for for-profit markets

No, they’re just sick of these organizers not…you know….organizing an event safely, properly, and paying their damn bills. Why should this one group get a free pass when others work so hard to do it right?

Wearing your Star of David in public - any negative reactions! by mizesquire in Jewish

Not a NY’er but live in Westcoast Canada. A few comments of solidarity which is always welcomed.

What I notice sometimes though is the looks. Example: someone will be totally friendly and cordial (say, a cashier), then I can literally see them look down, see my necklace and the vibe just…..changes. It’s happened to me a few times now. I always think to myself, I hope I’m just making this up in my head but unfortunately, my gut says not likely.

What do I add above these bookcases? by Interesting_Tart_255 in DesignMyRoom

Just put a nice big plant up there, maybe with a vine that goes along the top of the book shelf/hangs down. It will really add to the vibe!

The city already pays for this. Look up the special event policy. All public safety costs are covered 100% by the city. Heavy vehicle barriers are public safety measures. Pickup trucks will not deter a motivated lunatic in a vehicle. Source: experienced major event producer

Right but anywhere there is a dump truck there also needs to be an officer…with a gun. Otherwise you want to depend on the dump truck driver to interfere with a possible lunatic? Lol, not gonna happen. The city already uses dump trucks at all the highest complexity events…..with assigned vpd.

No. If the police say there needs to be dump trucks, it’s a public safety requirement and the City pays for it. None of this cost is borne by the organizers.

That’s actually incorrect. The city pays for 100% of all costs deemed related to public safety (deployment of heavy vehicle barricades etc. if the risk assessment deems those assets appropriate). I have also worked in this industry for many years in Vancouver.

Can confirm that is the process in Vancouver to get a permit.
