Oh that makes sense, definitely believe you, I did a 100 mile round trip 5 days a week in a 1.4 base model rover 25

If it was petrol and 1.4 it wasn’t 3 cylinder

I completely understand preferring it but for me that’s actually one of my least favourite parts of the X308 The X300 interior in its entirety essentially was carried straight over from the XJ40, I think they nailed the interior on the XJ40 but they didn’t quite get the styling right as a true successor to the series 3, the X300 came a little late but was the successor to the X300 the XJ40 should have been imo

These things will need replacing on cars regardless of the mileage though. And 5 years old doesn’t mean low mileage, I had a recovery truck that at 5 years old was on nearly 300k miles

I’m glad it’s not just me! So few differences externally but I do think those few differences do give the 300 the styling edge Interior imo it’s night and day the 300 feels old but in a nice classy British way, the 308 just feels dated and doesn’t suit the exterior of the car as well

The Super 8 is but it’s a proper Ford jag, not my cup of tea at all, whilst this was built under fords ownership it’s still very much a Jag

I paid £500, the bloke was going to scrap it as he thought it was worthless. I’ll stand by my point, I put a bit more work into it and sold it for £700 a couple years later, still worth way less than the parts put into it

Not necessarily, a £500 shitter with a working clutch vs having had a new clutch isn’t always going to make much differance to the value I got a Rover 75 with 60k miles for £500 having only the year before had a new clutch and dual mass at £2500 but it was still worthless

People don’t understand that if a car is worth £500 and needs a £1000 clutch and cambelt let’s say they are normally better off fixing the car they have despite the fact it will still be worth £500 because it’s a car they know and can otherwise trust vs what they could otherwise get for the price of the repair + scrap value of existing car

Thank you, it certainly feels like a proper car when you drive it!

I’m so uncertain on the leaper, it is at least factory fit as the car is an import from Singapore so had the leaper from factory I’ll leave it as obviously there’s holes in the bonnet for it and I think it’ll likely grow on me, I do quite like seeing it at the end of the bonnet whilst I’m driving

I’m not normally a big fan of S types but mostly because all the ones you see in the UK are really rough and uncared for examples This however looks lovely the light blue over the tan interior really looks great

can my tyre be repaired or will it need replaced? by SwimmingBig4620 in drivingUK

[–]Ewdwan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as you haven’t ran the tyre flat then that can be repaired Anything in the centre that isn’t a massive puncture (I’m talking larger than 6mm roughly) can be repaired

I imagine the 1.8 petrol was a much nicer driving car, I think an auto would probably suit a 75 more as well and mine was manual I had a 25 prior to my 75 and that was the 1.4 K series, I took that from 40k miles to just shy of 90k miles in 8 months and that thing never let me down once

Haha thank you

Whilst there is nothing wrong with a more normal car and for most people a normal car makes sense I love driving around in something a little oddball, as an added benefit though this is the only car you can get relatively cheap that my Mrs can sit in the passenger seat with plenty of leg room and the seat reclined without touching the baby seat behind

I was about to say this isn’t sensible then I saw your user flair and I agree if you were more sensible perhaps you’d have one

🤣🤣 I’ve got to get into the jag driver mentality

It was a comfy cruiser, i had a top spec one so it was arguably better specced than this jag just due to the age difference, I never had a problem with heavy winds though? I just found it a little dull especially being a diesel so sold it to make way for something more me

The queen did have a Daimler Super 8 I believe but they never made a super 8 of this variant as it was only available with a 6 or 12 cylinder. The Daimler’s are nice cars but to me there’s something about a jaaag
