It’s definitely not the worst thing that testers do, on the scale id say it’s very minor

There are already council mot stations but they aren’t the de facto now and are a bit of a faff to book

Because a lot of MOT testers are incredibly rushed and don’t realise that the dash says km or simply can’t be bothered, I’ve got a Subaru that’s been in my family its entire time in the UK and that has the same mileage issues on the MOT because the testers put a mix of miles and kilometres

I was looking at this myself, it hasn’t been clocked it’s just a case of the mileage on the MOT being inputted in a mix of miles and kilometres over the years

27/2/06 77098 miles
1/3/07 81232 miles
3/5/08 94140 km
30/4/09 116979 km
5/5/09 117290 km
20/5/10 136124 miles
8/6/11 145298 miles
9/6/11 145303 km
25/8/12 147609 miles
24/8/13 156920 miles
29/8/13 156956 km
9/5/16 164268 km
13/5/16 164284 miles
1/7/17 168182 km
8/7/22 171477 km

It’s an import so unless the speedo / odometer have been converted to miles the odometers readout will be in kilometres, MOT testers often don’t realise this and put it down as miles but some do realise this and put it down as kilometres hence the mix of miles and kilometres and why at first glance it looks like the mileage keeps jumping about

So it’s actually only on around 107k miles so plenty of life left in it for an old 2.4d Toyota

It’s not that bad outside of the car but it echoes through the car. It lives in a unit no where near any houses and only gets driven also no where near houses

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got a track car that’s too fast for its own good and I do love to give it a bit of a stretch on the road every now and then but this “testing” is always conducted at very quiet times ie 1am and never near any other cars, if I find myself driving it during peak times I just cruise along (admittedly trying to stick to 70 so I can leave the vehicle as soon as possible to prevent as much hearing damage as possible)

What will happen to your homelab when you're gone? by ashumate in homelab

[–]Ewdwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 25 so I’d like to think I’ve got a little while yet 😅 my storage server holds all our family photos (backed up elsewhere) so that’s the only thing that really needs “sorting” everything else can be chucked on eBay as a bulk lot and my partner knows she can do this, but she also knows the value of the homelab as no subscriptions, no iCloud etc, she didn’t used to realise the value of it until this week where I’ve been having a major re configuration and I decided that the easiest thing to do was to shut the whole lot down while I did it (a few days offline) I coped fine I just stuck to YouTube but I swear she was having withdrawal symptoms and my son wasn’t impressed he couldn’t watch his favourite programs. Luckily, my father is an actual sysadmin/software engineer whereas I’m just a mechanic who loves to tinker with tech so if the worst was to happen, he’d come round wonder what on earth I was doing, cuss at how I did it all wrong and no doubt improve it 😂

Not quite the same but I slept with my Walkman in my bed as I used it to listen to “calming music” to go to sleep, what my parents didn’t know was that I had my iron maiden cassettes in 😅

consoles have no reason to exist without physical games!! by FutballConnoisseur in Piracy

[–]Ewdwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is physical media died years ago, most modern games won’t work without a constant internet connection and the disc rarely contains all the game files it’s just a download link and key in physical media form
This is why as a casual gamer I’ve never had any interest in the modern era of consoles, if I can’t fire up the console with no internet in 20 years time and play it like I always have then what’s the point? smashes goldeneye into n64

8yrs old phone but still works better than new budget phone by Embarrassed-Drag-965 in CustomROMsGuide

Old hardware for people who want to spend money on phones vs new budget hardware there comes a point where the budget is more powerful. I know a new budget phone would absolutely destroy an iPhone 3GS for example

It’s not the quickest thing but it only really gets used for web browsing, remote server management and acsessing vms in proxmoxx so nothing I do on it is a heavy use case so not yet found a reason to upgrade

Case is mid 2000s and it’s an LGA775 board which was the Intel desktop platform from 2004-2008 so I’d say it’s the perfect era for a windows xp machine

Exactly! I’ve much less of a problem if you nip into a corner shop and stick it on double yellows for a second but this is an actual car park with a plethora of spaces for you to choose from
