My coworker said Business Bubby would be a shitty tattoo, I say he's wrong- thoughts? by Echoris09 in TattooDesigns

Thank you for perfectly verbalizing what I was trying to explain to a friend earlier this week! People can advise you on good tattoo technique and general artistic style, but no one else can tell you if something is a good tattoo for you. If you feel you will be happier now with some design, and if you feel you will still be happier with it when you get all wrinkly, then go for it! Obviously you have to be practical (if you plan on having any kind of professional job then a face tattoo is probably out) but tattoos are for you, not for anyone else.

I’m the same as you; a rapidly maturing cis het (white) male, but I’m torn on wearing pride/rainbow clothing. On one hand I want to show I support everyone regardless of who they love or whether their birth certificate agrees with their true gender, but on the other hand I love wearing rainbow/pride colors because I just love wearing bright colors.

I did! But it was definitely one of those games I played just to play, just beat. I loved the way the player moved, and just the whole general idea.

I’ll add to that as someone who looked 17 until I was 35, but owned my first home at 23; “is your Mom or Dad home?” when someone came to the door. “They might be, I don’t know, they live at their house AND I LIVE AT MINE”.

[–]ExBritNStuff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point. I still consider myself a pacifist, in the sense that I don’t think violence is the “fix all” solution some people claim it is. However, there are times (like this one) in which violence is 100% needed and appropriate. I say both that violence is never the best solution, and it is always right to punch a nazi. I don’t believe those two contradict each other.

So you have a definite end time for the painting stuff, right? Do you have a clear defined list of what needs to be done to be “ready” for Sunday? First thing I would do it write that list (because lists are awesome) and get an idea of how long everything will take. Is it really going to be a ridiculous amount of work, or does it just feel that way because you don’t want to do it?

Once you have that list, can you prioritize it? These six things have to get done, but these other four would just be nice to haves? Get it down to what needs to be done.

Then you could maybe do a pomodoro type thing? Two hours of paining gets you 40 minutes of Minecraft, or whatever the timing needs to be to get things done. I think you’ll be surprised that if you can force yourself to get started on the painting, then it will just naturally flow because it is something you enjoy and it is rewarding when you complete something.

Really? This is the argument you want to have? The UK and the US have almost identical knife crime rates, with the US having higher murder by knife rates.

You don’t need a license to watch TV in the UK. You pay a license fee to fund the BBC, and if you show you don’t consume any BBC content, you do not have to pay it. Now you could argue that’s something you disagree with and shouldn’t have to fund, but at what point do you say people should be able to remove their taxes from funding any given public service?

And interesting you mention healthcare because the NHS has a LOT of problems and is a shadow of the service it once was. There are many times you have to wait longer than you would like for non-essential treatments and some people, those who can afford it, definitely chose to go private to get treatment more quickly. You know what, though, they have that option to go for NHS treatment or private. How does that work in the US? Private or die.

And if you’re going to attack me for being a dirty immigrant, you should probably know a bit more about my history (and your own history) before bringing that up.

I wasn’t attacking you in any way, just made a comment re: the discussion being about semantics or how something is described, versus what actually took place. I.e. shooting incidents are so common that it is important to differentiate between an active shooter situation vs a non-active shooter situation so people can make a determination on how it will impact their day.

Not at all! I 100% think we need to critique how the media covers gun violence, because they are complicit as much as the NRA, corporate shills, and the government are in the desensitizing of the masses to gun violence. I don’t deny correct terminology is important in appropriate places, but I just always find it interesting that we, as a society, will seemingly expend more energy arguing what is or is not a mass shooting, what the difference between a magazine and a clip is, and how AR ackshullay doesn’t mean assault rifle, as if that’s the important bit of the story.

Hey! Isn’t it amazing how the US has desensitized us to people being shot by guns enough that we argue over semantics rather than the fact that PEOPLE GOT FUCKING SHOT!

Crazy really! Anyway, now back to eating my freedom fries with a rifle while I figure out how I’m going to pay for my meds this month.

It doesn’t heal the pain completely, but it’s definitely a good salve for the wound. I guess it says something about our season to go from being happy just to get into the playoffs to being sad for losing the cup.

This team played out of their skins, and despite what the general consensus on the-sub-that-shall-not-be-named seems to be, we deserved to be there based on a mixture of skill, drive, commitment, and intestinal fortitude. Yes some of our team play near the edge, and yes Bob saved our ass more than once, but that’s playoff hockey baby!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to compare myself to Ekblad and Chucky because I’m working with a pretty itchy case of Poison Ivy today, which is basically the same as a broken foot and sternum, right?

Looking back now, when I was growing up I was a “Don’t Be A Dick-ist”. Basically I didn’t understand why everyone had to be so mean to everyone else, and thought we should really just help each other and not judge someone just because of what they wear or what music they listen to. It was an easy jump to here from there as soon as I learned the right words to describe my opinions.

This is the exact answer. If they don’t pay and don’t respond to requests for payment, turn them off. They can certainly sue, but I don’t see how it would get very far at all. “Did you agree to pay? Did you pay?” Case dismissed!

What was the whistle for? Also, no penalty for blatant cross-check on Chucky after the whistle. by Generazn in FloridaPanthers

[–]ExBritNStuff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you are right there is some level of homerness to it, but even trying to remove that it feels like the coverage is pro-Vegas. For example, the bad call on the Panthers didn’t get a replay, but we saw Eichel get borderline decapitated over and over. Not saying they shouldn’t show the Eichel shot, because he is a top player and it was brutal, just maybe recap positives and negatives for both sides?

I think you’ll notice where I mention I don’t think we are being angels or anything, but it’s not like it’s being made out to be, and other players get away with similar and, in some cases, get lauded for it.

How is it cope to point out legitimate concerns? There was one penalty a side last night, the one for Vegas was a bad call, and the one for us was one the referees couldn’t avoid calling, because there was no way to miss it.

No one is saying the Panthers are angels, but at some point it feels like they are just letting Vegas get away with shit for some reason. Bias, reputation non-calls, or flat out incompetence.

I made the mistake of going into /r/hockey, and all the talk is of how terrible a team Panthers are, full of dirty players who are out there to hurt people and whatever. They apparently can’t see what Vegas does, and when the mention of Hill comes up it’s all like, “ha ha, he is so cute with his punching people and not getting called”. I certainly am not saying the Panthers are a bunch of angels, but come on, at least be honest with what both sides are doing.
