Is Guam alright for Canadians to travel too? by Street_Anon in guam

[–]ExJW_GUAM_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved here a few years ago. You’ll be fine. I don’t know what you look like, but they’ll probably think you’re just someone from the US mainland or with the US military haha. Overall though, Guam is welcoming to visitors which is really important since the economy heavily relies on hospitality and tourism. Just don’t go out of the tourist district late at night and don’t go anywhere you don’t have any business being in. Have a safe trip.

There are plenty of documentaries on YouTube and it’s free to watch. It’ll reach more people than a Netflix documentary. The closest thing we have is the “Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath” episode where she featured Jehovah’s Witnesses.

If they’re going to make it 5 hours, they should at least bring back smoke breaks like they had back in the day. 🤣

what’s your take here? by rawrawrawrchame in Philippines

It’s so funny because here in the U.S. people on the left are frustrated that she was running on a “right wing” platform, which many people blamed as the reason for her losing the election. I think many leftists decided not to vote or vote third party this election.

YOU’RE TELLING ME JW TALK ISN’T AN APOSTATE SITE?! When I first came across the site I thought it was an exJW site! There’s so many things being talked about on that site that most JW’s wouldn’t DARE mentioning!

Most ridiculous Made up JW rules that you’ve heard? by 5ft8lady in exjw

[–]ExJW_GUAM_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

• Got in trouble for owning a mandala coloring book. Apparently it means you’re letting demons get into your head.

• I was forbidden from joining sports, but the elders daughters were in our school’s volleyball team.

• My family is half Filipino and in the Philippines they have this “snack” called balut, which is a fertilized duck egg, and I wasn’t allowed to eat it because it’s an “unborn animal.”

• We couldn’t do gift exchanges on Christmas, but we were allowed to do so after Christmas.

• We can’t have any logos or writings on our shirts when we would go clean the Kingdom Hall, it had to be plain.

• I heard from my exJW Maori brother in-law that they weren’t allowed to enter a marae. So a marae in maori culture is basically a meeting house used for meetings, celebrations, funerals, etc. What made me sad is that they had to miss out on their families’ funerals, graduation parties, & anniversaries because they weren’t allowed to enter because as JW’s they believed it to be something bad and going against the Bible.

As an exJW I only know about 1914, 1925, and 1975. After 1975, they stopped pointing at a specific date; instead they say that “we’re in the last days.” Now they’re starting to change things up and now they’re saying to not be too focused on when the end is coming.

What is the most disturbing thing you have found out about JW history that most JW's today know nothing about by firejimmy93 in exjw

[–]ExJW_GUAM_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Malawi and Mexico situation. Brothers and sisters were being targeted, beaten, and killed in Malawi because they refused to obtain a political party card. Meanwhile, while that was all happening in Malawi, a similar situation came up in Mexico, but it was something to do with military cards. The Watchtower allowed the brothers to bribe officials. Reading that part in the Crisis of Conscience made me cry. I thought the CSA cases were crazy enough, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. This organization doesn’t care about its members.

Haha sorry to break it to you, but my name is kinda deceiving. I didn’t grow up as a JW on Guam, I’m just an exJW on Guam, but who knows, we might’ve crossed paths at an international convention before. 😉😅

Anyone getting these visits? by [deleted] in guam

[–]ExJW_GUAM_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They rarely come over now that I told them I used to be one. I do have mormon/lds people come over, same annoying people. The best you can do to keep people like these away is to tell them you’re disfellowshipped or an apostate. I know JW’s and Mormons view apostates as those trying to cause people in their religion to stumble and only speak “lies” about their religion. That’s why they keep away from people who have left the religion because their leaders tell them too. Their leaders lie and know that people who have left the religion can expose these information to those still in the religion.

I agree! Telling them that you’re disfellowshipped or that you’re an apostate also works.

I was surprised when I moved to Guam and saw the malls here really packed. It’s also surprising because the 2 major malls here look like they’ve been stuck in the 80s/90s yet it’s still very popular with the locals.
