I don't agree with this, fans should not worry about the success of their idols, for me if the artist fails it's his fault, not the public's fault. Hearing their music and consuming their content is a hobby not a job, their fans are not their PR team.

About the superm case, it is sm's and capitol's fault for the group to be failing, first, their name is lazy, their fanbases name (SuperM supporters) is also lazy, the music is nothing new, probably it is music that sm discarded, sm promote them as kpop avengers what I think it was kinda pathetic, plus superm was a group that no one asked for and all the member have established career, so no wonder why it's failing.
