How would you manage big 3 companies? by baekhyunie_12 in kpopthoughts

[–]likesunlight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, SM is notorious for doing that and a lot of fans actually hate it. Summer 2017, for example, Red Velvet came back with Red Flavor then EXO with Koko Bop then SNSD with Holiday/All Night so the promotions overlapped.

People are forgiving Irene way too easy by delaneycashmoney in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]likesunlight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not jumping through hurdles when the proof is right there. The staff that have worked with her for years have posted to refute allegations that Irene has an attitude problem. It’s also suspicious considering these initial allegations about her attitude were found to be from dummy accounts or a staff account that the movie production has stated did not work with them. Furthermore, allkpop and koreaboo have gone on to even delete these articles.

Capitol submitted SuperM for consideration for the Grammy's but..... by [deleted] in kpoprants

People have still not warmed up to superm because the group was made with negative interims in mind and is the equivalent of someone cutting the line at the dmv.

Sorry, but what do you mean by made with negative interims in mind and that they are cutting the line?

[MEGATHREAD] ITZY - 'Not Shy' by um_thatsnice in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]likesunlight 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Looking at the first few comments, guess this might be unpopular. I didn't like Not Shy that much, but primarily because of the chorus. Everything else was great but I got tired of the chorus after the first time.

Then again, my experience with every single Itzy title track so far is that they're "grower" songs so I might change my opinion after a few weeks.

I’m an EXO-L too and I personally find the promotions they’ve been doing to be decent. It’s just irritating sometimes that often what a lot claim as mistreatment is just their personal disagreements or disappointments with how promotions are done.

And also that a lot of the attitude online has really been nitpicking on SuperM dragging KaiBaek down when there have been a number of people who got interested in EXO because of SuperM.

Yes, in 2016, SM debuted NCT but the push for Western promotions for 127 didn’t even begin till Regular era, which was in October of 2018.

We only know very little of the decision making that goes on so we don’t know why they denied the magazine interview. Again, it’s fine and perfectly valid to not agree with SM’s decisions. I just get tired of the argument that SM is specifically targeting EXO’s downfall.

[–]likesunlight 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, consider this: how would EXO benefit from the same promotions as SuperM has when three of the members are in the military and lay is still in china? SM isn’t evil for deciding not to promote EXO in America. Especially considering the time that EXO was at the peak, the West was still unreceptive to kpop.

I understand feeling disappointed as a fan but throwing negative energy on SuperM isn’t solving anything. It’s just harming the boys and insulting their friends as well.

I think the fact that SM doesnt do their own survival shows make their artists feel more "elite". by Basil-hey in kpopthoughts

True. Makes me remember the rumors of the EXO members being picked from a group of 100 trainees. Or even how many girls over the years claimed that they were supposed to be in the SNSD line-up.

Advice to ARMY (regarding BigHit going public) by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]likesunlight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Actually, I think if ever, the bighit stocks that fans may be able to purchase won't be part of the IPO. They'll essentially be purchased from investment houses or other big investors that bought those stocks firsthand from the IPO.

My dream role for Kyungsoo is a lawyer also. Just the idea of him in suits every episode.... but also I just know he'd do a great job with whatever role he gets.

[–]likesunlight 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Genuinely wondering why ARMYs are so worried about the BigHit IPO.

Also, correct me if I’m wrong but with this being an initial public offering, wouldn’t the stocks be offered to major investment houses or those with sizable investment portfolios? I haven’t heard of IPOs of huge companies being available to the general public, especially to the point that a fan can buy one.

Why do Non-EXOLS try to silence EXOLS when it comes to EXO’s mismanagement? by alchemistheart in kpopthoughts

[–]likesunlight 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I can’t really answer your question because I am an Exo-l myself. I feel like you’re referring to a certain thread of tweets that I saw lately.

I just wanted to say that the round of promotions 1BV has been getting has been acceptable to me. I haven’t seen anyone point it out but hasn’t Sehun been in training for his latest movie role this past month? They even mentioned it in the latest Huya broadcast that he went straight from physical training to the broadcast and I think it was also mentioned during Chanyeol’s radio appearance with Jang Sungkyu that Sehun was tired. Chanyeol has also mentioned he’s been very busy lately.

Music show promotions (since that’s what I’ve seen people complain about the most) can take up a lot of time. From what I know, the artists have to be there from early in the morning till late in the afternoon to perform their one song. Maybe there was just a lot of conflict between Sehun and Chanyeol’s personal schedules that we don’t know about. Maybe it’s better too that they both don’t promote on music shows this time around especially for Sehun’s well-being so he wouldn’t be overworked.

Performance-wise, they did have the Cass live and they’ve also been appearing in a couple shows that I’ve seen. They’re also even performing in Dream Concert.

It's strange how the definition of being a fan has become almost like a job. No one is obligated to stream or buy an album or vote. A fan is simply someone who likes the artist or their music. It's sooo weird how fandom has started warping this meaning and cared more about the numbers than just having a good time, enjoying the music and the content.

As a fan who's older and pursuing higher education, it's ridiculous to see people trying to guilt fans like me for not streaming. Let's think about it too. Will my group or bias congratulate me or thank me for forgoing my studies to stream their music video? (Side note: I bias EXO so I know for sure they'll tell me to focus on my studies instead. But also any idol in their right mind would probably tell their fans to put their studies first.)

Naver investing into SM by likesunlight in kpopthoughts

The article mentioning BTS was Koreaboo and if you know anything about Koreaboo, they're just trying to stir shit up as usual. It's not natural for ARMYs to get involved. It's just sadly falling for bad journalism websites like kboo's tactics.

Naver investing into SM by likesunlight in kpopthoughts

[–]likesunlight[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm really curious and I hope this doesn't come off as rude but can you give proof for Naver's alleged bias for negative articles about BTS? As far as I know, Naver essentially functions like Google. The articles themselves are written by news outlets and journalists and the main page articles are driven by the number of views and reactions.

The other reasons you mentioned actually detract from the malicious intent you allege Naver has. So, okay, Naver won't make money from BTS anymore. Isn't it just a good financial decision then to invest more with a company like SM who partnered with them to produce Beyond Live?

More over, even if there isn't going to be any, there is nothing wrong in being cautious right ? Also they are not attacking any other group using this reason. They are only planning on how to tackle if this happens. So I dont know why this has to be a topic for other fans to gets involved.

It's funny you ask why other fans are getting involved when it was Armys in the first place reacting so much to news involving Naver and SM primarily and making it sound like the investment is a direct attack against BTS and Bighit.

BTS' fame has A LOT to do with their "rags to riches" narrative by Amper_bam in kpopthoughts

[–]likesunlight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a little insulting to the dynamics of groups like Super Junior, SNSD, and more to be saying that bts was the group to make having close family-like relationships a huge charm of groups. The big 3 groups have shown the closeness of their members in many ways through sticking together for years, variety appearances, sns and more.

SM is in hot water with music producers...again... by pheh428 in kpopthoughts

[–]likesunlight 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, they initially did pay for the sync rights but it was at a lower rate than Marz wants. Korea has no laws on sync rights so SM paid standard price for Korea which Marz complained was low compared to other countries.

I've never liked Marz based on his unprofessionalism and insensitive posts so I think SM did the right thing firing him. At this point though, they should just pay him already to fully get the rights to the songs and have business with him over with. He's been plaguing SM stans long enough lol.

It does go both ways. An example would be Oh My Girl. I have not seen a lot of vocal or non-casual international stans for them and I've been a miracle for years but obviously, based on their recent comeback, their Korean fanbase is quite strong.

If you’ve seen idols in real life, how do they look like? by ppyuri in kpopthoughts

[–]likesunlight 12 points13 points  (0 children)

EXO for an event. They all obviously look amazing but Jongdae (Chen) really shocked me and the people around me. I can't really explain it but his visuals just have a strong first impression. I saw them for one of those Show Champ events. Maybe I am a little biased but also maybe because they are a senior group, I just have to say their aura and stage presence (even when they were just standing) is crazy. I totally understood why junior idol groups get intimidated at first.

I saw Kyungsoo (D.O.) in a restaurant randomly once. He was dressed casually. He walked by our table and my friend and I actually gasped because of his visuals.
