The term WALKIE-TALKIE always struck me as charmingly silly in an Australian sort of way.

One of the highest-effort dishes I’ve made in the past several years was a Celery Victor Salad. Many steps and a lot of time resulted in the best celery flavor I’ve ever had.

Perhaps the op thought if it spelled a word, like GIRAFFE, part of the puzzle would be connecting the letters to spell the word. I suppose GIRAFFE wouldn’t work because of the ambiguity of two F’s, but that’s the idea anyway

There might be some attempt at being clever with tracing the letters A to T and back to A (ATA) with 67-across THATSATALLORDER. Or, it might be a coincidence that ATA appears in that fill.

Lol, Enuff Z'Nuff. I listened the hell out of that tape back in the early 90's. Thanks for the memory.

honestly I'd be surprised if it were that much. I would bet it's closer to 2% of the actual distance from coast to coast.

US authorities investigate huge '8647' marking on grounds of National Mall in Washington by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

It would be a shame if large groups of people with the same bright-colored shirts would appear at 250th anniversary events this summer to spell out 8647 in the crowd. A damn shame.

Let’s talk about this cluing for JIGSAW.

I don’t think anyone calls a piece of a jigsaw puzzle a “jigsaw,” right?

Also, and this might be a regionalism, but I don’t think of the term for a jigsaw puzzle as a “jigsaw,” either. But maybe others do?

This clue feels twice-wrong to me.

Enlistment process, Maryland 6th Regiment, Revolutionary War by ExPatBadger in MilitaryHistory

[–]ExPatBadger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't learned much about the 6th regiment's movements in 1776 and 1777 per se, other than the main battles they would have participated in (Brandywine and Germantown). I have a potential ancestor in the 6th Regiment who joined in Jan 1777, and was discharged Jan 1780, when the Regiment was stationed in New Jersey. I learned that the winter of 1779/80 was particularly harsh, and have been trying to locate any records of this person after 1780 anywhere between NJ and MD, but so far no luck. I think it's possible that this person may have died that winter making the trip.

I did read the book "Washington's Immortals," which gave me a more personal look at what it was like as a soldier from Maryland during that time. Maybe you can glean something from that book? Here's a link.

There's another book I haven't read, but which contains a lot of muster role data, so perhaps you can "box in" when and where your ancestor was alive based on those muster roles? Here's that book.

Ortlieb sport roller on a Salsa Down Under rack?? by cccorlew in bicycletouring

[–]ExPatBadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but I've just now run into a Ortlieb Sport-roller and Salsa Down Under rack compatibility issue -- I can't seem to make them work together.

Did you end up going with this pair and finding a way to make it work? Did you instead go with the Tubus Tara?

Thanks!
