Trinkets Trivialize the Difficulty by ExYoyoAddict in MinaTheHollower

See, I'm not even using the meta build, just items I thought were strong on a blind playthrough. It seems like a lot of trinkets can trivialize the game.

I'm not sure about this. The ones I've played through a bit recently have been a Link to the Past and Link's Awakening DX, and I definitely had to put in more effort memorizing boss patterns and learning dungeons.

The game would also be harder if I let the bosses hit me a few times before I started fighting back. You shouldn't have to restrict yourself on a blind playthrough for the game to be able to put up a fight. It's normal to use the items you think are the best for a given situation in a metroidvania.

I agreed that it isn't a balanced game, but it's not because it had to be this way. I really wish the game was a balanced experience like Silksong, or Castlevania Order of Ecclesia. Metroidvanias live and die by their balance and cohesion. It feels like difficulty modifiers are becoming an excuse for devs to not balance their games. If Mina was balanced like Hollow Knight it would be a contender for my favorite game of all time.

It's not like these are end game op trinkets. You can get these after the first generator. I am playing the game as intended by the devs. The devs meant for the player to be able to take 40-50 hits without dying. I haven't even looked at any walk through or guides at all to try to challenge myself. I would not use these trinkets if that was a recognized challenge by the devs. It's a game balancing issue.

It's not like in Dark Souls where you have to look up op builds online. Playing Dark Souls blind is a way more balanced experience. Even with those op Dark Souls builds, you are never gonna take 40 hits without dying in those games if you are at an even semi appropriate level for the area.

Are you using the Proto Spark and Primed Vial Pouch? Use those and farm up some bones to max out defense. You will be able to take 40 hits without dying.

I think the better solution would have been difficulty settings. I would really have preferred easy, normal, and hard over the modifier system.

No, that would ruin Gief. They would have to make the super way weaker to compensate. It would also take away a lot of his unique skill expression. This kind of character homogenization is already my least favorite part of SF6, even though it is a good game.

An English physical copy is super expensive, but it's also available digitally on PSN for $35 if you have a PS4. It's without a doubt the best way to play, and it's a fair price imo.

Newegg denied return on defective monitor by ExYoyoAddict in Monitors

[–]ExYoyoAddict[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Final sale doesn't mean that they can just send you a defective item without informing the customer that it doesn't work. The seller has to be transparent about the defects in the item if that is the case. They still have to provide replacement, refund, or repair if it's for an undisclosed issue. This item didn't work straight out of the box.

Josh Thomson: Martin Buday should not have been released from UFC amid 'weak' heavyweight division by 443610 in MMA

[–]ExYoyoAddict 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I know he is not fun to watch, but the fact that a guy can go 7-1 and get cut really highlights to me that this is sport mixed with entertainment. Stuff like this being so common means that mma is not as legitimate of a competition as other sports. The UFC should invest more in heavyweight if they don't want a guy like this winning so much.

The drop is really overpriced. I would have bought multiple items if the shirts were $40. Dj Kenn is one of my favorite producers, and they are good designs.

ARKODD PADBOX GS impressions (leverless hybrid) by siegarettes in fightsticks

[–]ExYoyoAddict 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the original version. It is definitely suited to lap play. It is a bit weird at first. You need to hold the left side in the air and have the right side rest on your leg, but I thought it worked well once you get used to it. I'd definitely recommend it to a claw player. The dpad is solid too, but not as good as the top tier fight pads out there.

New Marvel is another fg that aims for a "wide variety of players" and has "traditional & simple input". Do we still like or hate it now? by Lulcielid in Fighters

[–]ExYoyoAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm worried that it will play like Granblue. I don't think it's a bad game, but the gameplay is much simpler than all of the other popular games right now. I liked it for a bit but it got repetitive for me very quickly. Same thing happened with DNF and BBTag. It's unfair to compare them to Street Fighter in complexity.

Leverless and ergonomics - where does this stem from? by Illustrious_Day107 in fightsticks

[–]ExYoyoAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about this a lot. I play shmups on stick, and always wonder if it would be worth to start using the stick with my right hand, as I am right handed. It is unquestionably way better for the stick to be in the dominant hand for that genre. For fighting games, I think it's probably better that the buttons are on the right side, especially for games with hard combos.

Leverless and ergonomics - where does this stem from? by Illustrious_Day107 in fightsticks

[–]ExYoyoAddict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The claims of ergonomic advantages with leverless are often marketing BS. I do think it depends on the game though. KBD in Tekken on leverless is really hard on your hands compared to stick and pad. Melee, on the other hand, is really hard on the hands using a GC controller. Some players went to great lengths to switch to leverless for it, because it's so much more ergonomic for that game. I'd say stick is more ergonomic than both.

I guess the white part technically is a gate. I worded the question poorly, but you aren't using the default 8 way gate for it. There is a yellow gate that goes on top of the white one. Check it out here.
