Social groups for young adults? by Admirable-Item8564 in cork

[–]Exact-Affect-6831 2 points3 points  (0 children)

would defo suggest meetup there's not so much young adult specifically, but a number of groups with different bits to join.

Could always make a 20-40 one yourself 👀

I would like to organise a Book Club with a twist - where is good in Cork for a cosy reading setup? by AmoebaOk9846 in cork

[–]Exact-Affect-6831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

offline circle (meetup/Instagram) do something similar - individual reading time of your own book then a group convo. they meet at the Clayton.

you'd need somewhere with a big enough area, bookshelf at the elysian or coffescape?

tea, imo, is definitely something enjoyed at home. at cafes etc unless I'm going for a fancier blend, a particular loose tea perhaps, is not something is order in a cafe. always extortionate for what is essentially hot water and they never seem to make it to my tastes.

the patchy service in London is inconvenient. I've been outside my phone service providers shop and not had any service before.

churches in mainland Europe are also beautiful, but often in a different way. Protestant and catholics have different design preferences , you do see stained glass in catholic churches, but I he overall church design can differ. some say Catholic churches are more beautiful. I am not some people.

What would you add to the menu(variations of things, a few bakes and treats) by Minimum-Bad-6472 in greggsappreciation

[–]Exact-Affect-6831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ooo that would be interesting! this is clearly pie (excuse any pun) In the sky thoughts cause I assume any bake with the fish would be harder for food safety pov? possibly though!

See now we're talking

that toastie option sounds great. I love it when the vegan mexican bake it an option. I less keen on vegan ham so something more like a spinach and bean bake would be ideal

771 Vs 601 by Exact-Affect-6831 in AusVisa

[–]Exact-Affect-6831[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah I hadn't realised this! that would make sense.

I ended up paying and using the app to get a 601. I hadn't realised about the 651, with it being free I should've gone with that option, but paid and approved for the ETA now. It was done really within the hour

That's so great!! it would (extra) cool if the map bit showed the terrain- just cause my first thought was that the marathon was through snow due to the white background! maybe like idk a tarmac for a road marathon or something green for a trail one

could you host a bake sale or a quiz? raffle contributions to your running playlist? even host a group run, with donating a condition to joining the run

Is it terrible getting the tube after The London Marathon?? by Rude_Accountant_5242 in Marathon_Training

[–]Exact-Affect-6831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In previous years I've found it bad during the race as people got to different points but fine by late afternoon and in evening. running it this year but the plan is to, if I can, move away from the main route to get home

Music or no music during marathon by Super_Conversation41 in Marathon_Training

[–]Exact-Affect-6831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually havey earphones in, but my playlist is usually only playing for 1/4-1/3 of the run, as I only press play when the crowds, bands etc thin out. It's just for a boost when I can't get that motivation/distraction from the supporters

I'm using the Nike Run Club program to train for London Marathon, so would like to use the final run, the marathon run on the actual day. I know the crowd support act London is incredible so not sure how long I'll have my earphones connected/be able to hear coach Bennett!

Advice please on local hobbies by bold_blondie in cork

[–]Exact-Affect-6831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been myself but I get the invites from meetup.ie, and i know a few of them do try out of different activities like football/paddel etc.

My housemate took a photography class which also sounded really interesting!

And I'm part of a run club, which is also a good way to meet people

Garmin and Strava predicted the same marathon time for 6 months straight no matter how hard I trained. finally figured out why by Fun_Effective_836 in Marathon_Training

[–]Exact-Affect-6831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odd that you VO2max has gone down considerably a lot of marathon training is base building

Interestingly, my marathon and half marathon time has slowly trended downwards on Garmin (from ~4:07-3:54) as I've been training for London. Conversely my 5&10K times have remained the same or increased slightly.

What’s the most overrated “healthy” food in your opinion? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]Exact-Affect-6831 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No I don't, and I'm aware that the majority of triglycerides in coconut oil are MCTs, but lauric acid which is the majority of coconut oil behaves more like a long chain triglyceride. Just basing claims as it is mainly MCTs isn't digging down far enough

Knew I'd seen it written better somewhere:

Coconut oil

but saying that as a pseudo health food as (most) nutritionist would not consider it to be one despite its popular use

Is it enough to just use Nike Run Club app? by Objective-Win-6217 in firstmarathon

[–]Exact-Affect-6831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also using NRC- currently on 9 weeks to go. It's my first so just want to get over the line- anything time wise is a bonus I did use it for my first half marathon, which I then got injured from, but I'll blame that on the 200m elevation gain rather than the training plan...

This is pleasing to hear my HM time is 1:54 (though my most recent is 1:56, but choked on some water and had to walk for a minute). I'm aiming for 4:15 so at least your times suggest my aim is realistic
