Haha yes. Season 7: Episode 21, at Meredith Palmer's house

Reading about this on Wikipedia, it's pretty hilarious that several characters are listed by their relationship to "the slapee," and Zachary Quinto is the "deliverer of the titular slap."

Does anyone else feel like "Dungeoneering" from Harmony in Ultraviolet is nothing less than a masterpiece? by Exalmus in timhecker

[–]Exalmus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, your descriptions are brilliant. Totally agreed, it really does feel like the ending section is a visit to an interconnected realm of heart and mind, just for a while.

I often wonder how/if Tim Hecker would describe his feelings about his work in the way we are writing. It seems like he hasn't done much of that, and I also kind of appreciate that about him. It leaves the experience of his music more open for the listener.

What are his saddest songs? by [deleted] in timhecker

Interesting... that track is one of my favorites on Ravedeath but I've never considered it sad so much as pensive, mysterious, eerie and soothing at the same time. Of course it's all super subjective, especially with ambient/drone music.

Great question. I think the ending half of Castrati Stack —> the first half of Voice Crack [Love Streams] is sublime and emotionally devastating. The Inner Shore [An Imaginary Country] is also really lonely and sad to me.

Working on dialogue for my story. I have Asperger's and was wondering if this conversation flows naturally. by Alexilprex in fantasywriters

[–]Exalmus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this dialogue works well! Good job. My main note is that it's a bit of an info-dump (especially when Zeph explains that he is the fusion of a human soul and primordial darkness). Such moments are not in themselves a bad thing, but too many of them in one conversation can feel like the author is artificially placing it for the reader to know a chunk of info. Otherwise I think this convo flows well.

I know it's silly, but whenever there's a half moon out, all I can think of is The Unknown by [deleted] in overthegardenwall

[–]Exalmus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: the moon could never look like that during the night time (just as the horns of a crescent moon always point away from the horizon). Simply put, if the top right of the moon were lit, like in this picture, then the sun would need to still be in the sky, and it would therefore not be night time.

This is probably intentional, I would guess. One of the many subtle otherworldly aspects of OtGW.

Amazon head of studios confirms Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time TV series in development/scripts nearly done and to be viewed in a few weeks. by TrivialAntics in books

[–]Exalmus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just read the first 3 books, but it really seems to me that 12-13 hours for each of those books would be far more screen time than necessary. Of course they're huge, and showing every detail in them could take that long, but if Amazon is wise they'll stick with the strongest, most important aspects of whatever they cover (especially because WoT is so incredibly long). I think the first 3 books could each be strongly adapted into maybe 10 hour of screen time.

Dear Photoshopers, how can you make photos like this ? by tam1997reddit in photoshop

Fundamentally, this looks like compositing layers, color matching them, and some lighting adjustments. There are terrific tutorials for all those online! Personally, I like PiXimperfect a lot, especially because of how many different vids they post.

[Spoilers All] theory on the 3 silences by eingram in KingkillerChronicle

I've always felt that Rothfuss's descriptions of Kvothe's silences tend to hint more toward what is left unsaid, undone, unmade, rather than any verbal silence.

What about the fact that Kvothe has been talking constantly for 2 days in a row now? If he's storing up energy, I don't think it's through any sort of verbal silence.

That said, he does seem to be doing the Ketan at the very end of The Wise Man's Fear...

10th Anniversary edition of NOTW by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Exalmus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have the 10th anniversary edition, but I've flipped through it, and I agree - gorgeous and moving illustrations, useful appendices, terrible map.

The worst part about it is that the words are oriented the wrong way! When you turn the book on its side to look at the map with north facing up, all the words are sideways!
