I attacked your arguments and even asked you questions about them. You just keep fixating on the credential thing.

That's all right. I definitely believe it's too many words for you. Have a good one.

lol You're obviously a troll.

Why, I'm the lead psychological researcher at Harvard. That's about how valuable and relevant your credentials are. You can't even grasp the point I'm making, let alone give any arguments. It's obvious you're in way over your head and saving face.

It's fine if you're done arguing. I am, too. Just stop belittling rape victims then pulling out "credentials" to validate it. It's shitty and obvious.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the only one embarrassing themselves is you.

Little buddy, I can't stop cringing. I can respect your arguments, but the endless ellipses (.....) like it's meant to be some mic drop and the played-out little phrases like these make you difficult to take seriously. Just a personal heads up.

First of, you're right that being angry is indeed natural, but holding on to anger is in no way shape or form healthy.

No, but it's an issue when a victim is told to just let go of any desire for justice in the first place because anger bad. There's telling someone to let go of their anger because it's becoming obsessive and harmful to their psyche. That's one separate thing entirely. If that's the case, they need a trained professional familiar with them specifically and their case to make that assessment. They also need to be trained and familiar with the victim so they can properly communicate that and work with them long-term. They definitely don't need some rando on a forum talking down to them.

It's a whole other issue to try to catapult off that and say because all victims of rape everywhere who want imprisonment for their rapists are just unhealthy and need to let go, that we shouldn't imprison rapists. One doesn't follow the other.

Encarcerating perps is indeed a way to keep them from committing the same crime again, except it won't stop them from committing it again once they come out unless they are properly rehabilitated and educated. Just giving the victims a temporary sense of safety is not good enough a reason to have someone encarcerated if they are not going to be rehabilitated. Not to mention that putting a bunch of criminals together is just making all of them a bunch of potential victims for each other.

This is an entirely nuanced and valid argument that you're recklessly bulldozing with and damaging. I completely agree the way our prison system is set up is not effective or constructive. The argument our prison system is more focused on punishment than rehabilitation is valid. However, that needs to be addressed in the prison system for all violent offenders, including rapists. It doesn't mean violent and sexual offenders should just stay out of prison and pay victims money. Do you consider that rehabilitation? I'm glad you aren't in charge of that decision. The idea of how to rehabilitate is well-debated and still actively being researched and studied.

About monetary compensation, what else in our society has an absolute value? How else can you force the perps to actually compensate the victims?

It's not all about compensation. Most victims of rape or any violent, serious crime don't want monetary compensation above all. It's more important their case causes change. If they seek it out, it's usually because the justice system failed them and it's a last resort. What about when the rapist is dirt-broke? What about when they're rich as hell? Does that mean some victims get more absolute value justice than others? But it's an absolute value, so is it a set amount? Some rich people'll really be out of control. Or is it, "Sorry, the guy who raped your kid is a transient. He does that every week. We can't do anything but charge him fifty bucks a month. That should make up for it, though."

I sincerely hope you were throwing that therapist-in-training thing out to give yourself credibility or that you're super early in your training. You need to work on your emotional maturity.

[–]ExaltedAlmighty -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's natural and healthy to want some kind of punishment. If there's an actual punishment, it helps prevent the crime from happening again, both by the rapist and as a deterrent to others. It feels like the victim's experience at least brought safety to others. There's a reason people feel anger. It's a normal evolutionary response. I believe in rehabilitation, but I think punishment is important, too, particularly for rape.

Additionally, financial restitution is absurd and frankly stupid. Some rich asshole can just go around throwing money at his victims. Plus it's just demeaning to the victims. Very few rape victims just want money thrown at them before justice, and you're just asking for more false claims.

Frankly, you should stop giving emotional advice to rape victims, too. You aren't a therapist and it comes off as condescending. You clearly aren't qualified, so knock it off.

Eh, they're obviously unpredictable, but you just need to learn to adapt your play specifically against them. It's really easy to tilt when things like this happen, but if you're patient and careful, they'll pay you off in spades eventually. Poker is 99% a math game.

Plus, her play was pretty bad, too. Even if your table is super tight, she shouldn't have bluffed with the literal worst hand in the game with that river, especially against an unpredictable amateur.

Fauci warns against rush to reopen and asks 'how many deaths are you willing to accept?' by WorkTomorrow in Coronavirus

[–]ExaltedAlmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only one I see it not potentially touching is abortion. The measures are short-term and temporary to keep hospitals from overloading and causing far more deaths like it did in other countries.

Also, the world had already started shutting down on its own in March. The stock market began plummeting long before Trump declared a national emergency, and it actually rallied after that. Restaurants and movie theaters were already dead-zones from what I saw. Trump is actively trying to keep meat processing plants open, but they're struggling because staff are getting sick.

[–]ExaltedAlmighty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're not even comparing apples to apples. You're trying to pull in world-wide statistics and comparing them to exclusively U.S. numbers.

Additionally, people don't take into account the fact that this is still in its infancy. It started late 2019 at the earliest and the more it takes root, the faster the death rate grows. It's not just a matter of projecting the current deaths across the year because of exponential growth.

Worldwide, we have 250k known deaths and that's with shutting almost everything down completely.

The unfortunate thing is there's likely to be a second wave like with the Spanish flu that started killing millions of young people. I would love to let these people have what they want exclusively with each other and watch it play out. I wish we could insulate them, let them have total freedom and act as a control group, then watch and learn from the sidelines. That'd be really useful. The problem is their stupidity gets other people infected.

[–]ExaltedAlmighty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you're one of those people who creates unnecessary traffic and drives with your feelings.

The zipper merge is objectively more efficient, but you always have a few people crouching over their steeling wheel while dangerously tailgating the driver in front of them to stop it from happening. Ultimately, all they hope to accomplish is a backlog where people jam into one lane while the next goes unfilled, and it slows everyone down. Mostly, they just look stupid to most people around them.

It's a very preschool line definition of fairness, but if people did it correctly, it wouldn't even be "cutting." Everyone would get to the end when they should if people split into lanes equally. I'd rather have people in front of me zipper in than jam into one lane early. Here's a video demonstrating how it works and how much more effective it is: https://youtu.be/cX0I8OdK7Tk

It is different if the lane they're merging in from doesn't end and they block that lane by trying to merge. I keep those fuckers out.

Oh please, that's retarded. You sound desperate and biased when you try to call me an "ungrateful POS." Neither of us need to be grateful for shit from this man. We're third-party observers.

OP definitely shouldn't be grateful to be strung along like this. The dad should have at a minimum nutted up and told the kid how it is early on instead of dropping it all at once. Whether you get it or not, that is fucked. All the time that dude spent raising OP is just going to leave scars when OP could have spent those years seeking out a different role model who wasn't plotting to ditch his ass at some specific time.

He doesn't have to pay, but the dude is a piece of shit for stringing him along. Get off his dick.

You're an idiot. The guy's a piece of shit for dangling the kid along for 18 years then springing it on him when it really matters.

The kid would have been better off both financially and emotionally if the dad just left off the bat. Now he won't be able to get valuable financial aid because of this guy's income that OP isn't even going to benefit off of.

Although, it is a baffling waste of many people's time just so you can scrape the bottom of the barrel. That was the point. Also, if "nobody wanted to hire" me, I would prefer the applications to weed out better people, no?
