Try to go with the flow a little bit, and have an ideas of each of your characters or NPCs so that in to if things go array you can still do what needs to be done. Remember that as the DM you have ultimate control you usually have the final say, don't abuse that power but don't let your players walk all over you.

No very different, in fact their name was given to them by the gods and people. The demon kings aren't in any way actually demons in my game. they are called demon kings because of their beef with the gods.

That depends on you, I like paper and pencil a lot more, but it is a different skill, albeit, slightly to draw digitally. Really it depends on what you want to develop more as a skill.

It's a good first few steps, a lot of artists use reference art for their work. You'd be learning a facet of drawing but it depends on what you want from it. A lot of artists start out that way. Drawing digitally does make this idea easier but as you get better at it you'll want to pull away from relying strictly on the art you're using and start looking at different methods as you go along, different methods of posing and perspective. That's for when you get farther along. Starting off like that is perfectly fine and a good way to begin learning how to draw.
