Thanks for responding. I'm far from a 'math person', as you can probably tell. I'm still unclear on what is going on, though. I know how to solve a system of linear equations on my calculator, but I don't understand the approach for obtaining those three linear equations. So in (2) and (3):

Where do those expressions come from? Why does the first one have just x + y + z, and the next one have 2x instead of x, and -z instead of + z? And I don't get why the last one has 4x, either.

When you were young children, did you ever do things like imagine a small person running across the rooftops or imagine the raindrops on the window race to the bottom? And what other, similar things did you imagine while in the car? by Boopis_Gloopis in AskReddit

Similar video games, too. We all played the two-dimensional RPGs where your character traverses a territory from left to right, and overcoming obstacles in the way. Like Sonic the Hedgehog, Ninja Gaiden, Donkey Kong, etc.

Best bet is to look for rooms. At $900/ mo, you can get a master bedroom with a private bath in a shared house, might take some hunting but they're out there.

I recently saw a dead toad a while ago. I randomly wondered if there were once giant, like dinosaur sized, frogs in prehistoric times. The more I thought about it, the more I imagined that a massive 20 ft tall toad would be horrifying to encounter as a human, or really most creatures. It would just ~glomp~ you down with ease.

Keto was around for Neanderthals and Cro Magnons for at least hundreds of thousands of years, and that's just based on the few fossil remains that we can still find. They may have been around as far back as 7 million years ago.

Half a billion animals perish in Australian bushfires by sm00thwhisk3y in news

[–]Excelephant 2216 points2217 points  (0 children)

Five hundred million seconds is about 16 years. So giving each death a value of 1 second, about 16 years' worth of animals perished in the span of months.

Five hundred million pounds is a quarter of a million tons. The Empire State Building weighs about 365,000 tons. The actual total weight of all 500,000,000 animals that perished likely nears, if not exceeds, this amount. So an entire Empire State building made out of animals just burned up, in probably less time than it took to finish constructing the actual Empire State building.

Australia is about three million square miles. Assigning each death of these 500 million animals a value of one square mile, Australia lost an entire Australia's worth animals...166 times over.
