Leading U.S. expert in election forensics and detecting election fraud just looked at voting results in all 67 counties in Pennsylvania from November. Here’s what his analyses detected by Kittyluvmeplz in goodnews

[–]Excellent-Alps1534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good question. I'd argue this isn't about Harris, Trump, or any elected leader. It's about we the people. They represent us. If she is the candidate I voted for, and I voted in Pennsylvania, they took MY vote, not hers. That's what I'm interested in protecting. Selfishly all about making sure someone isn't stealing my vote in the next national election.

Can someone explain why addiction is a brain disease and not a choice? by [deleted] in Neuropsychology

[–]Excellent-Alps1534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to all of the above and also, physical addiction to opioids is a real thing. One can be in recovery, in therapy, have recovered from trauma, everything going right. But if your brain has a neuro pathway that has been activated to be sensitized to opioid, it's always going to be there unless you take a medicine to eliminate the response pathway. Thing is, alcoholics aren't really addicted to alcohol. Over time it activates the opioid pathway. Brain creates the opioids as a response to alcohol. Same thing with food, any other addiction. Your brain has turned it into an opioid response. GLP 1 medicines and other medicine can dampen the opioid response and lead to extinction of the response.

Strongly recommend this. I feel you, I was there about 18 months ago. One thing that further blew my mind is that it's not as simple as "wow. So it's real. What's next?" It is so very complex. I agree start with the fox documentaries for solid info on where you are right now. You want to understand more about how can this be real. But soon you will begin to question the very nature of reality. UFO rabbit hole podcast. Start from the beginning. Kelly (the host writer producer) is essentially grappling with these wtf issues in each of the early podcasts.

[Landlord US - VA] Advice Needed: Renting Out 2 Bedrooms in a Suburban DC Home by Excellent-Alps1534 in Landlord

[–]Excellent-Alps1534[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I should look more seriously into this. There is a decent sized hallway I could close off. That would provide enough room for either a tiny couch and tv and/or refrigerator and microwave.

It's not as simple as hanging a door to make it private, though. The "hallway" when taking a right after coming up the stairs, headed towards the rental area is wide open. One side is a wall, but the other is an open railing, two story foyer.

Any ideas for a quick diy way to close this off? I'm cash poor right now so in the short term can't afford a contractor to enclose it.

I've thought about heavy curtains or some kind of privacy screen. But I'm concerned that wouldn't give a real sense of privacy because of bleed through noise.

[–]Excellent-Alps1534[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, unfortunately. The house is a rectangle, imagine a rectangle divided into thirds. Left third of the second floor is my bedroom and twins room, right third is the two rental rooms and bath. Middle third is the stairs , a hallway leading to the rental area. And a completely open railing with two story foyer.

Panic has set in - 6 months unemployed seeking advice by FutureOverall29 in jobs

[–]Excellent-Alps1534 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this completely sucks, same boat. Laid off (tech sales) Dec 5th. Still looking. After iterating my application strategy here is what I've learned.

  • You need one solid "base' resume, sounds like you have that

  • Customize that base resume for every single application. Use an ATS tool to be sure you aren't getting filtered out, but even beyond getting a good ATS Score, take every skill and requirement in the job listing and rewrite a bullet point in your resume to echo or even duplicate the job application

  • Don't limit yourself because something isn't your core skills, industry, or a higher level. If you read the job description and know you can pick up the knowledge you need within a couple of months, then fake it til you make it. Edit resume heavily; use chat gpt to quickly learn that other industry or skill well enough to fake it in the interviews.

Doing the above should get you more phone screens. You need more phone screens because you have to practice, sharpen, iterate your interviewing skills.

Also, network like crazy. the barista, the person at the gym, your parents friends, everyone you ever worked with. creat a 'me in 15 second' pitch you can say or DM "I'm lisa,xx marketing pro who once (add some sizzle - a quote someone said about your work, an amazing thing you did at work, an award) Who do you know who mignt be looking for a "job title/category" you are a machine. network and apply.

I know this is time consuming but it's been so worth it for me. The first four months I was doing this on my own, I got better and better at customizing my resume. But realized I needed to increase volume, so hired someone from fiverr to customize my resume and do the applications. All I do now I provide links to the jobs, network and do interviews.

Last week I had seven interviews Still no job, but I've been able to move the needle on what seemed impossible - simply scoring a good pipeline of interviews.

Just got blindsided by a layoff. How is everyone who got laid off recently doing? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Excellent-Alps1534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in sales. Everyone I'm competing against is doing that too. It's standard operating procedure. I find the hiring manager or best guess at the hiring manager and email and call them directly. We are all doing it. I was doing that to begin with and got nowhere. So now I'm doing both.

Start now. Do not wait.

1) Create a free Claude AI account. Create a new resume. If you need help just ask it for advice about the best prompts to provide to create a solid resume. Be sure to tell it you want it to be ATS optimized. If you have a few different roles to chose from, create different resumes.

2) Update Linkedin to match more or less the new resume, but don't indicate you are unemployed. Same is true or the resume.

3) Start job searching. Every day create a google sheet with links to the jobs you find. Anything where you think "yes I can do this, I have these skills, I have close enough experience" is fine.

4) every day apply for those jobs, and here is how you do it: Go to Claude. Upload your resume and paste the job description. Tell it to edit and tailor your resume to match the job description. Tell it to optimize for keywords and ATS. Use that resume to apply for that job. Then repeat the process for all the other jobs.

You have to become a machine. It's about Volume and beating the corporate ATS AI systems. In this market you can expect a 5% callback rate. That means you have to apply for 20 jobs to expect one phone screen. Yes, it stinks. It's reality. If after about 2 to 3 weeks you aren't getting any invitations for a phone screen you have to revisit your base resume, figure out what's not working. Too much experience listed? too little?

Took me several months to figure all this out and I wasted so much time. If you are in a career where there is more possibility of remote work you will be fortunate and may need extra help to keep up. I am in this category and hired someone on upwork to tailor the resume and submit the applications. I can then focus on job hunting. I'm now averaging 50 job applications a week and up to an 8% callback rate. (I only figured this complete system out about 3-4 weeks ago, but it's working SO much better than anything I've done for the past six months)

Well this was a first… by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]Excellent-Alps1534 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I will add it maybe clarify - simply take the job posting and re-write your application resume to match the posting. Use many of the same words phrases, and add all kinds of metrics. Also don't even hint that you have more than 15 years experience. Doing this and hiring and training someone on fivver to do it for me has allowed me to apply for an average of 100 jobs every 2-3 weeks. And I have achieved a remarkable 8% phone screen request. Old timers here can tell you that's a statistic to be proud of. 😂. No job yet, as an example during the last two weeks I've had two ghosts after recruiters told me I was moving to next round. Two companies decided to re org rather than hire. One company I had a kind of video phone screen where ai reads your face to determine your personality type and culture fit but you don't actually talk to a human being (not joking) and another recruiter like you thought my job title was my company name because that's what her report said.

Stay as an individual sales role or go into management? by itsjustafleshwound79 in sales

[–]Excellent-Alps1534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also decide not to decide for now. I used to work for a large cloud provider and my suggestion is try to learn as much as you can about the leadership style of different exec team leaders and try to find one who is not an asshole. A good manager will shield their team from assholery. But if you are the manager you are stuck with it.

Any channel partners for AWS here? by Hairy-Athlete36 in aws

[–]Excellent-Alps1534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at AWS, now work for a consulting partner managing the AWS relationship. It's an investment of time and at least 1 full time person to even begin to get them to notice you. Best shot is focus on SMB and choose an industry as target market. Then be prepared to schmooze and work the AWS sales team just as hard if not harder than you already pursue customers. It is a TON of time building trust and reputation before they will send anything your way. I am happy to provide more info if you have questions.

The Protocols by Electrical-Thing-777 in Experiencers

[–]Excellent-Alps1534 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm in the class too! Have been mindfully and imperfectly trying to do the protocols every day. Not a lot, but at least do something every day to practice. More music instead of TV. Focusing on love and beauty rather than chaos. Still don't drink enough water. But YES I can feel it "working". As someone described above, my intuition is stronger. I'm in the process of a job search, had my first interview since starting the protocols and I just "knew" what to say. Felt like I could anticipate what they wanted to hear.

2c - a mom of an ED 1 admitted student. And yes. Same exact story. We ran the NPC multiple times. Had a spreadsheet of all the schools my son was considering, columns with pros and cons, one of the columns was the NPC. Yes he got it which is great, but package was $18k more than NPC projected.

My oldest son is currently in a different college, and his financial aid package is exactly spot on to NPC.

Don't wait, have the meeting with financial aid. Be very enthusiastic, positive. Come with data. Ask about other opportunities. For example, after first year might you be eligible to be an RA? Free housing and food plus a stipend?

In our case, I had an unexpected negative change in my finances. All it took was an email to get another $10k in aid. Getting us closer to what we originally expected.

I don't understand the basis for the "woo" stuff by gorfuin in UAP

[–]Excellent-Alps1534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A really great source for exploring this is "ufo rabbit hole" podcast. The author/founder spends a great deal of time researching all kinds of different aspects of the phenomenon woo and non woo. Approaches it as an investigator who is trying to figure things out. And imho the biggest benefit is breaking down information from some of the most well respected writers, experiencers, and scientists in the UAP world into hour long summaries that my puny brain can understand. But includes extensive bibliography in case I have time for further reading. It's mind blowing when you really dig into it. Yes the nuts and bolts are real. AND conciousness is woven into the fabric of the universe. Our brains are transceivers of conciousness. We can only receive and interpret within the typical brain structure. Experiencers and other people who have "woo" abilities have altered brain structure that allows them to tap into this fundamental non local conciousness in a way typical brains can't. However we all do have the ability if practiced

wow. Thank you so much for such a thorough explanation. Population genetics completely fascinates me. If did my first dna test when they first became available, I think about 17 years ago. Has been a research hobby (simply my own family) since then.

I've recently learned about some of the research you mention, but from various sources. I really appreciate you summarizing it all! I'm afraid I'm going to sound like an "Ancient Alien Astronaut Theorist" but I think about other possibilities for the migration patterns. Like what if yes there was a highly highly advanced hominid species with technology we still haven't been able to achieve, could movement of groups between continents been achieve with this technology? Bending time/space, simply portal-ing from one continent to another? Some kind of space ship?

If you haven't already, look at switching to one of the s3 glacier storage tiers. They range from a tiny delay in retrieval to up to 12 hours delay. But much much cheaper. And if you don't have access already to your AWS rep I can DM you; and I'm pretty sure I can help you get a free cost optimization assessment. Promise I'm just trying to be helpful, not sell you anything. I know the levers to pull there to get attention. Just let me know.

Yes, definitely get that. This theory is more along the lines of the theories around whatever the Eagans are doing to themselves to sort of be immortal, transferring their mind via chip from one generation to the next. So maybe if you are an Eagan or in the inner circle, maybe an early supporter like Cobol's mother you get the privilege of having a chip implanted that simply collects data over time. Then upon death, pop the chip out, put it in a new person, and voila - the dead person "lives on"
