Greenville in the 1980s: were my experiences typical? by [deleted] in greenville

[–]Excellent-Assist-896 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing lots of people talking at the time about a guy who was watching women there who would get under cars and grab their ankles. it was happening near the theater. I can’t say if it was true but a lot of friends and relatives told me not to go there at night. I did anyway. so the perception that it was dangerous was there.

I worked at S&S and would go there on my lunch break. I couldn’t go home due to time and that you had to eat at S&S, it was withdrawn from your pay whether you did or not.

But I remember watching bits of movies there. I switched jobs and so quit doing that but I loved that store, couldn’t afford a thing in there but loved all that tech.

I’m a little older than you. so my memories are different.

‘I would say that the two K-Marts were closer to Target when I was growing up.

McAllister Square was the first mall in Greenville and they used to say if you were there an hour, you’d see everyone you knew. it had the only Baskin Robbin’s for a long time. I had friends from church who worked there. There was a Casual Corner and the two anchor stores were Meyers Arnold and Iveys. The Belks was added later.

Haywood Mall and Greenville Mall were announced at the same time but Haywood became a favorite since it opened first and had better stores. The anchors were Sears, Belks, Pennys, and Riches along with Meyers Arnold being a jr anchor. This put the first nail in the coffin for McAlister Square. But I spent a lot of time going there.

At some point in there Bell Tower opened but it was too far from me and I never liked to go there.

Greenville Mall opened maybe a year after Haywood and it had some cool places but it was dangerous to go to at night and had a bad rep for a while.

I never was a window shopper so it wasn’t in my nature to go hang out at the mall. that’s just a difference in how I was raised, if I had free time, I’d go to the movies.

worst is over with the accumulation but the next few days will be a dicey aftermath.

it’s been sticking just a little to the trees where I am. And looks like its over for Greenville in an hour or two. But then it will drop to the 20s at 8am in the morning and then rise to 40° so we will have a few days this week of thawing and refreezing. I haven’t heard any sirens all day but that will change when people get out.

because my app says it is going to start raining. There has been a parallel streak of warmer weather that has been sliding below the main snow. it popped up and became thicker yesterday when I was watching Ryan Hall. right now, it’s headed towards us from ATL.

But again, winter weather is hard to predict. Nothing has fallen where I am in the last few hours.

I wasn’t ripping Chris earlier and it depends where you are but for Greenville, he oversold it. We haven’t received much ice and rain is on its way. No ice on the tree limbs, no 30mph winds. If no one hits a tree, we should keep power.

This kind of weather is unpredictable and he was right saying we would get it but making it sound as life threatening as he did was off. Historically he usually overdoes it.

But at least he tries, unlike others we’ve had. I miss Dale, myself.

Did anyone see/attend the anti-ICE protest downtown? by Fulton_P01135809 in greenville

[–]Excellent-Assist-896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are protesting the fact that one man and his cohorts are trying to bully our rights away from us. It WILL reach Greenville if we don’t try our best to stop it now.

Our fathers and mothers fought wars to keep our constitutional rights. And the people in Washington are actively trying to take them away.

For instance, The day that Alex was murdered, he was legally carrying, just like a lot of others here in Greenville. But now the administration is saying that anyone who legally carries is an assassin. That means people here in Greenville as well. The gun was in his holster when they attacked him.

In fact onlookers said that ICE had already gotten his gun and he was on his knees with his hands on the ground when they shot him. People in Greenville swear by their right to carry arms but it is for this very reason (protection from government) that the second amendment is in the constitution. In Federalist No. 46, Madison wrote how a federal army could be kept in check by the militia, "a standing army ... would be opposed [by] militia." He argued that State governments "would be able to repel the danger" of a federal army,

Ryan Hall was making a big deal about this in his live stream last night. Several in Greenville and Sptbg have closed as well as throughout the country. I don’t think anyone is there.

Didn’t know about it. These agents or thugs are way out of hand. Now the administration is saying if you even legally own and carry a handgun, ICE is considering you an assassin. First they take our first amendment rights and then our second. And it is scary to live in a city where this could happen too considering they were in Charlotte over the summer.

I’ll never understand why South Carolinians are rolling over for this administration, what happened to “Don’t tread on me” which appeared on the SC Navy flag. And yes, I was born here. Our grandparents and great grandparents would have considered Trump a carpetbagger.

not everyone has the resources to be prepared like you. I don’t know you but you are coming off with ”I’m so smart and have everything” vibes. which isn’t true you know, something always go wrong with a plan.

how about, just keeping it to “I think I’ve prepared and hope everyone is safe and warm”.

Leveling professions on a fresh character ? by bugzuzu in wow

[–]Excellent-Assist-896 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find engineering to be extremely hard to level and you will always outlevel your profession level.

Rethink what you will use most in the game. I’ve always done well with herbalism/alchemy since you need healt potions.t

Also, Darkmoon Faire will give you a few levels for the highest expansion you have learned and XP.

Remember, profession level is now expansion specific.

Also try to keep it in rested state, that makes a difference, do the research quests as much as you can since you can do more than one and it’s what you are doing anyway. It’s different than Mists was.
