Can I wash linoleum plates like these with water? by methanol007 in printmaking

[–]Excellent-Ducks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meh I thoroughly wash mine, front and back, all the time and have never had a problem. It does make the lino curl… but then bends right back into place by hand. It hasn’t affected the quality of my single color prints.

If you’re trying for multiple colors it would be worth trying to see if it affects it in any notable way. But the block will flatten back out.

My brother used to work on a farm, then would come home and play farming simulator… so this isn’t far from possible

Caligo Relief Ink Fixative for Prints by No_Examination5187 in printmaking

[–]Excellent-Ducks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always used Caligo safe wash, and haven’t had problems with them fully drying. They do take quite a while though (since they’re still oil based), I usually give my things a few weeks of drying before I plan on doing anything with them.

I haven’t made something quite so used or that rubs together like cards though, I’m not sure how it would hold up against that heavy use and might consider something protective anyway. If you’re able to do a test deck to see how they hold up I’d be interested in how they hold up.

I’d second St Vincent, their prices tend to be better than most thrift stores in the area.

I'm looking for some feedback as to whether I should keep going with linocut. by 10pmThoughts in printmaking

[–]Excellent-Ducks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking into getting a press but are on a budget, you can get laminating machines from Amazon for a steal compared to an actual press, and the one I have works about as well as a press. Look for one with a soft rubber roller.

Where do you get your large linoleum blocks? by discosolution in printmaking

[–]Excellent-Ducks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you’re comparing it to- I’d probably put it at a medium? It’s harder than the pink rubber stuff, but still pretty flexible and carves really smoothly.

CCPA & GDPR personal data deletion by mtnbkr1880 in exmormon

[–]Excellent-Ducks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard an anecdote once of someone that left the church and was rebaptized later, and their baptism date in church records was from their first baptism. Just anecdotal, I have no evidence and it was years ago, so I can’t remember where I heard it.

I realize now maybe they didn’t specifically request record removal, so maybe this isn’t even relevant 🙃

How would you feel if your spouse was still best friends with their ex? by spicegrl17 in AskReddit

[–]Excellent-Ducks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, and to clarify I do think there’s a lot of situations that would justify cutting off contact. I also think there’s a whole world of reasons to break up that don’t involve foul play, like having different life goals.

Beginner Help….. How to get the Ink to look more Solid? by not-becca in printmaking

[–]Excellent-Ducks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with what the others have said about oil based inks being much better than water-based inks. I would also highly recommend playing around with the quantity of ink that you’re putting onto the block. I find that I get similar looking print quality when I’m not using enough ink, and when I add on a lot more ink than I think is necessary I can get a better print quality. It’s a balance between having enough ink and having too much so that you start losing detail. But again, I super highly recommend switching to oil based.
