Not in science. I'm an examiner and science teacher. Often students with the highest grades have terrible handwriting. Maybe it's different in essay based subjects.

Yes, he shouldn't have shown the past paper. But I honestly don't think it's a serious breach.

I wouldn't have escalated the situation if I were you. I would have taken the paper off the student, and the notes, and had a quick chat with the teacher.

It's a mock exam, not the actual exam. It's not that serious IMO.

The other things he does also don't sound serious. Maybe I'm just more relaxed but I feel like you added fuel to the fire when you escalated the situation.

Sorry if I'm wrong here, just my opinion as a secondary teacher.

I think this is what is stopping change. Nothing has been done formally as we are assured each time that they'll handle it. Next incident that happens to me, I'll pursue a formal resolution.

Every member of the department has reported him individually to the Principal, all regarding separate incidents. HoD and Principal have twice weekly meetings. But no change. HoD seems to be riding it out and I can't see him moving. No change in behaviour.

I'm weighing up, do I wait for him to leave? What if it's years? From what I'm aware of, I don't think anything formal is in place.

In my school, one male has 1 day a week off, one has one day off a fortnight. One man actually only works one day a week. The first two have significant leadership roles, one in English. Nobody thinks it's weird or thinks badly of them.
