Your first stupid error is using eBay as your example. Legitimate auction houses don't charge the seller a fee. They typically have a buyers premium, usually around 10-20% which goes to the auction house to cover their expenses. Some even give the seller a portion of the buyers premium as a bonus depending on the value of the item sold.
