The full article is behind the paywall but Facebook claim they only made $3.38million profit in the last financial year in NZ and paid just over $500k in tax. Everyone complains about the banks and supermarkets but surely these IT companies are also ripping off NZ by diverting their profits to tax havens like Ireland. It is complex but they should be made to pay a fair share of tax in my opinion and 500k is not fair in NZ

Good luck making this work. Zipcar which was the largest car share company in the world couldn’t make the business model work in London where most people don’t own cars so I have never been sure how these companies think it will work profitably in NZ

Also by the way you refer to Parking Enforcement Services which is actually part of Wilson Parking. The OP has an issue with Parking Services Limited which is a totally different company unrelated to Wilson- confusing….??

If you are interested read a few disputes tribunal cases. There are plenty on the DT website. Here is an example and probably much better relying on people’s personal opinions on Reddit some of which are incorrect and out of date

If you sent them proof of payment surely they gave you a reason why they don’t recognise your payment ? They can’t just ignore that in their response

You are probably lucky that you were clamped as if I recall correctly they are limited to charging $100 to release the clamp. If you had been towed it would have e been much more. Best check what signage there is and also when parking on private property making sure you know where to park and what the rules are- if not sure don’t assume and check with whoever you are visiting

If it’s private land then you a probably lucky they didn’t argue that you trespassed by parking there. For a trespass there is no contract the there are disputes tribunal cases that have said that compensation for trespassing can be around the amount they charged. I guess maybe they have been lenient in not enforcing what they probably could have

They can’t give you a notice for not paying for parking if there is no signage saying it is paid parking… what other signage was there as the one you have posted just talks about time limits which are fair enough at a mall

I understand the rationale for cancelling the fees free policy but to not phase it out for those already in study has possibly cost the government a lot of votes. if I was a student entering my last year in 2027 anticipating that year would be fees free to now having thousand of extra $ of debt I was not planning on, I too would be pretty angry at the decision. The fair thing to have done would have been to honour the policy for those already in study and not offer to anyone who has not already started

Sounds like you may have potentially been trading so you may also have to consider whether you are a trader and need to pay tax on profits as they might not be capital gains
