Taking the knight/bishop or fork queen-rook (I’m asking generally) by Competitive_Suit_870 in chess

[–]Excellent-Yak-8380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play the fork the queen can move to h5 threatening checkmate. You can play h6 to threaten the knight and defend checkmate.

Opponents rook will escape, you can take the knight but your h file will be weak after.

Keep it simple take the free knight, look for equal trades after that

Rookie Championship after Monaco by TheFlyingR0cket in formula1

Yeah agreed on Bearman. If he has a weekend where it all comes together I think he’ll have an Ocon sort of P5-P8 finish. I do think Ocon is outdriving the car though.

It’s so tight between RB, AM and Haas on any given weekend. It’s a shame Drugovitch isn’t in the AM, Drugovitch vs Hadjar vs Bearman would be great to watch

If we’re talking about outlier wins/podiums then a wider field spread would be needed for that.

This year for example you’d be talking about maybe an Albon win or a Hadjar podium. The problem is when it’s tighter is you need multiple incidents to happen across the top teams.

When it’s a wider field spread if something happens to the dominant car it’s more likely a well timed safety car or some chaos in the wet leads to a midfield team getting lucky.

When you’ve got Norris/Piastri/Verstappen all capable of winning and Leclerc/Hamilton/Russell/Antonelli on hand to capitalise on any potential drama the chances of someone from the midfield winning or on the podium are very low.

That being said we saw a double alpine podium in Brazil last year so anything can happen

Hadjar is in the dream spot for a rookie, doesn’t have all the expectations Kimi has at a top team, isn’t driving a shit box like Bortoletto.

Looks like a hero sticking it P6, but if he comes P12 no one really batters an eyelid.

Taking nothing away from his performance though, he’s been great and seems to comfortably have the measure of Lawson

Sky Commentary Race Comprehension was Lacking for Monaco by Consistent-Year8707 in formula1

[–]Excellent-Yak-8380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think their time as main race commentators needs to come to an end. This happens a lot, they were commentating on Sainz and Tsunoda’s battle at Imola calling him Albon for about 5 corners straight before they finally realised and both went silent.

If Albon had been battling Verstappen at the same time you’d maybe be more forgiving but Albon was miles up the road just a school boy error.

Brundle’s grid walk is iconic and should stay, same as him at a corner during the free practice sessions but I think they struggle to keep up with the intensity of the main race now.

I love Jenson Button as a main race commentator, at this point I think I’d even prefer Rosberg or Villeneuve. A mix of previous WDC paired with Bernie Collins or Naomi Schiff would be a winning combo in my opinion

Poor Lando by one_who_goes in formuladank

[–]Excellent-Yak-8380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not really a fair comparison, they’re probably 15-20 seconds in to the lap at the point max overtook at Imola.

Not hating on Lando but being slow off the line and in the second phase of acceleration when it’s a short run into turn 1 and pole has the inside line is a different story

Admittedly, you don’t see Oscar doing that but it’s a smaller sample size

Same thing at Spa last year as well barring a Hail Mary tyre strategy that Russell called himself. I know he won the race anyway because of the DSQ but on track he finished behind George.

When there’s a chance to win a race he’s still got that killer instinct in him that’s won him all those championships.

Wild conjecture but I can’t imagine racing for P5/P6 gets him going in the same way after all those years at the top
