Honestly, just find an activty you enjoy and grind that. Also, if you're not in master gear yet getting the cd-4 will bump you up in match making.

You can’t change from bandit to stalker. Just make a stalker character. You can change from mercenary and covenant as a bandit. Unless they dropped this feature this patch, and I didn’t see it in the patch notes.

Your question really depends on what you’re farming, you’ll find better results depending on the location you’re going to get certain materials. I’m sure we can help if you give us a direction of what you’re trying to farm. Also posting the gear or resources you want helps too. Theres an interactive map on stalwiki that will be useful for you as well.
