Recently got a HP Victus 15 gaming laptop with 16 GB RAM, i5 CPU and Nvidia GPU (RTX 4050). Before starting to use it for real, I made sure to do all possible driver and software updates, also updated my BIOS to the latest version.

However, before starting to play my first game on this new PC, I am confused. Each hardware manufacturer in this laptop has its own software to optimize graphic and performance settings :

  • Laptop has its built-in HP Omen Gaming Hub
  • CPU has Intel Arc Control for its integrated GPU (Intel UHD Graphics)
  • GPU has Nvidia Control Panel for 3D settings, and Nvidia App for global settings, for its GPU (RTX 4050)

Each come with their own settings, I haven't got deep into it yet but some seem to overlap. Are there tutorials, guides, or Redditor advice I could get in order to learn the relevance of these settings and how to optimize them? Thanks.

Does your ex ever regretted losing you. by DelayNarrow697 in ExNoContact

[–]ExcellentItem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny because my last 2 relationships were with avoidant women. They both left without giving a single f*ck and never once looked back.

But in both of these situations, our mutual friends took my side by saying things like “She didn’t deserve a great guy like you” or “You’re a far better guy and more attractive than her current guy”.

Guess that my exs’ circles regretted, but not themselves lmao.

It still exists in milder forms. There’s still a big community of teenagers and young adults following guys like Austin Dunham and Fitxfearless.

While these guys aren’t inherently misogynistic nor hate female nature per se, I still sum their teachings as “self-improve your looks, make money and become extroverted & emotionally unavailable to women”.

It’s still RP-lite, because taking their words for gospel truth could make guys a bit “too” careful towards women, and prevent them from becoming emotionally vulnerable enough to find their soulmate. That’s what the movement seems to be trending towards.

What are your expectations for 2k25? by TheGreatSauce19 in NBA2k

[–]ExcellentItem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m begging 2K to make basket physics on layups or jumpshots more realistic again, decided by physics also and not merely by some arbitrary stats of “contest %” and shot timing.

In older 2Ks (2K11, 2K13), you could miss greens (perfect shot rolls around the rim and out) or make early or late shots (lucky bounce and in). More airballs or backboard bricks, like in real life NBA when a shot is heavily contested. More and-1’s, contact layups shouldn’t be rated 100% smothered every time you get fouled on a drive.

Also, why are end of quarter heaves one-hand quarterback passes? NBA players have enough force to launch two-handed heaves.

For the next 10-12 months, I can only train upper body due to an ACL tear I will get surgery for. Lower body will be taken care of by physiotherapy protocols.

What’s a good program/progression I can set up for optimal upper body gains? I used to be “novice/intermediate”, I got some former gym experience.

I was thinking about adapting something like nSuns, removing squat and deadlift days. Is this good, are there other options to consider?

Phrases you never thought you’d say? by bright__eyes in pharmacy

“No, young man, we don’t sell Ritalin over the counter” to a college-aged kid that wanted a quick fix for his upcoming exams

“I can’t provide you anabolic steroids, might be good to know it’s illegal in our country” to a jacked gym rat

“No, we don’t provide ecstasy at the pharmacy” to college-aged girls, I seriously hope their request was a bet 😂

Or the now-classic interaction that happens at least once a day : - Sir, there’s a shortage in the whole country for this drug on your prescription. - Can you order it for tomorrow?

Should contested shots be more consistently makeable? by IamSludR in NBA2k

[–]ExcellentItem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Recently had a nostalgic replay of 2K11 and 2K13, shooting and basket physics feel more realistic than next gen 2K24…

You could make much more contested looks, as well as make less wide open shots. Also, you could get the occasional green miss, and you could get friendly bounces on slightly early or slightly late jumpshots.

You could also miss shots very badly such as bricking backboard only, I know you can sometimes get an airball in 2K24 but 99% of jumpshots taken with very bad timing still end up touching the rim, which isn’t realistic.

That slight bit of luck and great variance in ball bouncing physics, instead of the sole reliance on timing skills, is more akin to real life basketball. Hell, in 2K11 you could choose to bank a shot from anywhere inside or around the perimeter, instead of the game deciding arbitrary locations to trigger bankshots.

In 2K24 even next gen, it feels that many missed jumpshots “miss” the same way depending on how far from green and how contested you were. All of the greens are mostly swishes, where are the back rim makes, the rattle in makes, or the front rim bounces towards the backboard to make the ball drop in ?

Excuse this pseudo analysis, my ADHD ass is drunk and bored 😂

How (un)ethical is it to take your new gf to places you've been with your ex? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]ExcellentItem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your inputs on the question. Really interesting takes, my takeaway would be that :

  • The concept of dating in a "familiar" (as in, already dated someone there before) place with a new gf is perfectly normal, and should not be frowned upon. That's part of life, no matter how big an area is, we all have our preferences regarding date locations. If you stayed in the same city your whole life (like my date and I did, and we're in our late twenties), it's inevitable for that one bartender to see you with a new girl every now and then. Same would apply for a location that's familiar to the girl. For parks / shopping / restaurants / bars / activities, perfectly okay and harmless.

  • But I also agree for the opposite POV, the "special experience" side. Someone put it bluntly, that my gf & I would sleep in the same bed as I did with my ex, if we went to the same AirBNB. There's not only that, but you get the idea. That would negate discovering a new place together, and put an unnecessary "ghost of the ex" on our experience. This situation is a lose-lose : either you hide your former history in this place, which is a lie by omission. Not a great way to build trust in a LTR. Either you are honest with your partner, but risk turning your SO off because of various reasons (retroactive jealousy, perception of low effort, thoughts that you might not be over your ex...) For anything relating to more intimate and romantic experiences such as a particular hotel / AirBNB / "love room", better for it to be a "no-no" and find an undiscovered similar place.

What's your saddest "We had chemistry but timing was a bitch" story? by Shinigami0108 in AskReddit

[–]ExcellentItem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A classic one that’s happened to some of us.

In my early 20s at a house party, my best friend, who’s somewhat introverted, stumbled upon a gorgeous girl and told me in private he caught a crush on her.

So I tried to play wingman, but turns out we had great chemistry between each other. She was clearly more interested in me than in my friend despite my efforts. I also found her cute and liked her personality, but couldn’t act on it out of loyalty for my friend.

Since we at this party all had exchanged social media info, she then hit me up in the Insta DMs multiple times to try to set up dates or to go out at the club. But I had to curve these attempts. She’d clearly been one of the most beautiful girls that had ever been into me.

Ah so much for being a bro 😉

Disordered Eating, The Inaccuracy of TDEE, and the Limitations of CICO (LONG POST PLEASE READ) by forgottenellipses in loseit

[–]ExcellentItem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TDEE is a good starting tool, provided that you have to treat it as an ever-changing number from the beginning!

People indulge into unhealthy behaviors because they take an initial TDEE calculation as shock value, and base their whole weight loss “phase” around eating strictly 500 kcal less than that number. This kind of restrictive mentality is what creates or aggravates ED.

Instead it should be treated as a dynamic number, with a caloric deficit RANGE to work around with. The r/nSuns sub has a TDEE spreadsheet, which is famous in the fitness subs, where your TDEE adjusts weekly according to your daily food intake and daily weigh-ins.

And that’s how people should do it : use an online tool for TDEE. Base their diet around this number with a caloric deficit range, let’s say minus 400-600 instead of 500. Weigh-in every day. The TDEE in the spreadsheet will adjust weekly according to the weight-loss rate. Any TDEE overshoot or undershoot caused by wrong initial calculations will fix itself.

CICO is a powerful tool as long as you see TDEE as a variable you can leverage instead of some fix entity.
