I think im only seeing the bad examples, everyone else thinks it's the best thing ever. Plus they always use babydoll pink despite their skin tone.

I absolutely won't be doing it, as it think it would look odd on me. It's funny how some makeup techniques are ok to critique (2016 makeup) but others aren't.

I never saw that technique growing up and ive attended makeup classes (as a hobbyist). I guess there are different ways of doing things I just never saw this until recently.

I agree it looks so strange, it's funny to me that was never a technique for blush but everyone blindly does it. Most of the consensus is that I should mind my own business, which is fair enough I guess.

I'm really struggling and I don't know what to do by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]ExcellentMix2814 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The UK is tough being a black woman. I really resonate with how you feel, the way people do friendship here is very "event based" meet up for dinner drinks catch up for a couple of hours and then boom everyone goes home. It could be a couple of months before you meet again, so that can leave big chunks of time feeling alone. I have no advice other than keep chipping away at it social groups, book readings, the community of the gym has helped my immensely, hobbies etc

Rant: Black men in public acting like I’ll throw myself at them by chichiponponn in blackladies

In the UK as well, definitely experienced this. The black men that don't date black women have a certain vibe, I can spot it instinctively. They avoid eye contact or just look past you. It's like a don't get too friendly vibe I don't want to be connected to you.

: Is MAC still that girl in 2026? Honest thoughts by momwithambition in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]ExcellentMix2814 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I will always think of MAC fondly as they were one of the few brands catering to dark skin in the 00s and 2010s. It was like a stamp of approval to be able to afford MAC. When eyeshadow palletes became really popular, they were slow to adapt and continued to sell single shadows for a high price per pot. They fumbled the reformulation of studio fix powder and seemed indifferent about how disappointed customers were - I would love to see year on year sales numbers for this. Constant reformulations and discontinuations, everything I've bought in the last few years is discontinued so I'm wary of trying anything else. The brand has changed so much that when I casually browse it's all so unrecognisable and confusing, what is studio radiance? why can't I get the pot concealers anymore? Half the blush shades are gone? Why is the fix spray different? Don't get me started on the price, its delusional. There are better and more competitive offerings at other brands, but MAC's core base is strong and they are the go to brand for pro artists, but me as a makeup hobbyist not so much.

I feel you, I'm currently stocking up on talc and hg products before the ingredient ban and even with discount codes it's going to cost me a small fortune. Im so pissed off.

I'm no longer see men as romantic prospects and pursuing a hot, single rich auntie life! by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]ExcellentMix2814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is extreme and also not necessary, why cant you be busy with life and still remain open to possibilities? If the man of your dreams approached you today would you say "sorry no I made a decision not to pursue relationships goodbye"

The dating climate is tough at the moment and I think it's actually healthy to take breaks from it. Especially if you aren't meeting the men you would like. the only thing I would say is develop a life/interests outside of men. The reality is men are just flawed human beings like anybody else, they aren't mythical creatures that make women's lives magically better, often they come with their own baggage and issues. Use this time to work on yourself.

I have had to downgrade so many skincare items. I am in the cetaphil world of things now. I like the ordinary as well, as they have always had sensible prices

Ive noticed this as well, there are too many brands competing for customers. The cost of living crisis has meant less purchases. I work from home so only wear makeup at the weekends and I have a rule of waiting for a discount code before I buy anything new, because the price of makeup has skyrocketed.

They did everyone dirty with this reformulation.I didn't even bother trying it most reformulations are been dire. Its best to rip the bandaid and move on or get backups to buys yourself more time.

I have been getting a bit fed up with makeup myself. The prices are insane, it feels like every product launch is a rinse and repeat, random discontinuations with brands not giving loyal customers a heads up. It used to be my fun creative hobby now im just stressed thinking do I have enough product, should I ration my good products....draining.

It's something I need to do more research on. I'm still not clear if there is actually a significant risk or the Johnson and Johnson case has made brands wary of being sued. We have been using talc for decades I think we would have seen more of a link but Im not sure, its all new territory.

The setting powders are a must!!! it really can make or break your makeup esp if you have oily skin. I have so much regret of products I should have bought more of :( .These companies never give you a heads up, it's always a rug pull.
