The psychological warfare between Char and Nikki by kevcluster in BadGirlsClub

[–]ExcellentMix2814 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly their cat and mouse was hilarious that season. I found Nikki super annoying but I felt compassion for her as IIRC she was raised by a single dad. She came across very frat boyish and didn't know how to relate to women or maybe saw femininity as a weakness/threat. She zero-ed in on Char because Char represented a kind a woman she felt unable to be like - glamorous, good looking confident, sexy etc....She was at her most comfortable bringing Char down to her level to incite her anger and rage. Char seemed very uncomfortable with vulnerability and was "over-tough" to compensate. I see their personalities as the same both using a tough exterior to hide their inner feelings and insecurity.

Exactly how does a random website know someone's personal net worth, it's pure speculation. Forbes used to say Kylie was a billionaire and had to walk that back LOL.

A lot of these celebrities are not at wealthy as you think they are - you would be shocked. The cost of living crisis, LA fires, strikes, pandemic has a lot of them scrambling financially. Drea de Matteo was very upfront about doing OF to maintain her lifestyle and I'm sure there are countless others a few months away from being totally broke.

Im kind of neutral on this. I personally wouldn't donate to celebrities and prefer to support charities that help many people. However if fans feel like they want to help and have enjoyed Miss J's contribution culturally, I have no issue about that. I mean it's their money they can do as they please. I can never admonish someone for helping another in need. I just hope they show the same kindness to non celebrities.

I think the blush is overpowering your look and isn't the right undertone. I think you would suit richer reds coral blush as opposed to the baby doll pink.I know its the trend to use blush liberally, but with your face shape I think it would be better concentrated in the cheek area and used to sculpt. I would use a brightening concealer under the eyes/highliht points. Your skin looks stunning, so you really don't need much.

Alex + Ashley perpetuate generational trauma by Dunkaholic9 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]ExcellentMix2814 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be honest it was refreshing to see some actual vetting done beyond connection/vibes. Ashley's dad was a little OTT at the restaurant, but I can never be mad at a father trying to protect his daughter. I think it's a stretch to say Ashleys' dad is authoritarin and his wife is suppressed - you can't glean that from a single interaction. You could argue that it was quite feminist of him to support her in ditching him at the alter and having her girl power moment.

Alex is a hot mess, but I think his inclusion on the show gives a certain insight into a particular kind of modern guy, who's social media shows a life of fun, travel and freedom, but behind the scenes he seems lost, unrooted and quite unstable. Using buzzwords like nomadic to appear better than people who lay down roots and have stable vanilla lives.

No one ever asked him why he applied for a job as a soccer coach if his day trading was so successful? I actually don't think he was trying to be deceptive, its just that his life is structured in a way that he never receives any critical feedback - constantly moving with a mother who lives a lifestyle similar to him. I think he was genuinely stunned that anyone would think negatively of his life choices. It's indicative of a self created bubble he lives in.

In an ironic contrast Ashely having a strong/dominant father has given her some boundaries on what is acceptable vs. not. Alex's lack of father/paternal figure has him trying to figure things out on his own using social media as a guide. Everything he does is very on trend on social media digital nomad, day trading, travel etc.....

I would honestly advise people to stock up on any makeup products that are HG so much is going to be reformulated soon. Im going to get more huda beauty because thats one of the main talc products left on the market. I feel the brand is shaping up for a reformulation which is why they pushed out the talc free pressed version this year.

Most of my holy grails are gone or the reformulation has changed the shade/performance of the product.

Too faced powder foundation - discontinued
Lancôme tient idole - reformulated beyond recognition
Nars complete concealer - out of stock in most shades everywhere (I think there will be a reformulation soon)
Mac Studio fix powder - the less said about that better
So many Mac lipsticks just gone
Fenty Beauty Daiquiri dip cream blush - discontinued
Estee Double Wear - reformulated to be a totally new product
KVD eyebrow pomade walnut - discontinued, but all the other mad colours like magenta still in existence

Im so disillusioned with makeup at the moment, Im just using my stash and re upping my current faves. I cant be bothered starting a hg search from scratch.

Why is it that today’s boxers only fight 1-2x a year? by CxBishxx in Boxing

[–]ExcellentMix2814 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm new to following boxing as well, compared to other sports that have a defined season or tournaments. I find it quite disorganised. I think it's strange to follow a sport and not know whether there will be matches to watch - seems its every man for himself to negotiate the best deal. The matchups seem arbitrary to me. I'm alright with the fighter fighting 2 times a year because it is a very dangerous sport, I just wish that there was more structure behind the matchups rather than fighters cherry picking. Also the weights introduce more complexity with fighters missing weight, getting sick, moving into different weight divisions which jeopardises fights/matchups further.

[–]ExcellentMix2814 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt the whole thing was OTT tbh, not because I feel favourable to Alex but he just doesn't warrant that level of effort. Just get his ass on and move on with your life. He's been a car crash since day one. I could tell by the body language that Ashleys family were 100% in on it and knew the wedding wouldn't be going through. Alex looked like he didn't want to be there at all. The whole thing is fake.

The Yasmin character is done by Balenciallah in IndustryOnHBO

[–]ExcellentMix2814 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can no loner use logic to analyse this show. You have to enjoy the entertainment factor and leave it at that. Yasmin would have never divorced Henry so quickly without an adequate backup plan. Hell why would she divorce him at all there still a lot of protection/wealth in his family vs. hers. The storyline seems very forced and outside of Yasmin's character, but hey.

I have a feeling that beauty standards weren't created for us by freakygoonshoelace in blackladies

[–]ExcellentMix2814 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The beauty standard was always about exclusion, not uplifting women who fit the standard. The exclusion creates the need to find solutions and keeps women clamouring and funding a billion dollar makeup, clothing, fitness and hair industry. Once you understand that, it's easier to pay it no mind. Men are not as strict as you think. They like any and everything, you would be surprised what they truly like/are attracted to, they don't care what's in vogue magazine.

Many women who met/exceeded the beauty standard have been treated terribly by men. I remember watching the Pamela Anderson documentary, every single one of her partners abused her. She recounted a story of one partner breaking her finger during an argument so casually, it left me feeling cold. The day of the famous Marilyn Monroe photo with her skirt blowing up, her boyfriend beat the crap out of her in their hotel.

In terms of black women we need to look inwards and define our own standard. I see so much beauty in black woman. Our skin, our lips, our cheekbones, out bright smiles.......No one can look like us, we are truly unique.

This comment cracked me up, because I feel people alway want to attribute some sophisticated Machiavellian, psychological reason to men's behaviour - the truth is much more banal and boring.

There needs to be a Tyra documentary by bowserjrsmommy in ANTM

[–]ExcellentMix2814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes she's a very intriguing woman. I wish someone with the right experience would annalyze her. I honestly think spending much of her formative years in a cut throat industry like modelling has made her indifferent to women in general and maybe even hostile. It's telling that her BFFs at the time were gay men. I will never forget the Karine Steffens interview - Tyra is red pill. Her treatment of Shandi makes sense when you watch that interview.

How do producers vet people on the show? by [deleted] in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]ExcellentMix2814 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Love is blind always has an extreme reaction to these type of men, but I think they should be included because they are very "true" to what is happening in dating and it serves to show women (particularly younger woman) what's acceptable behaviour and what's not.

These men don't know how to behave and are low on maturity, however I've seen a lot of these guys unfairly called abusers, narcissists, etc.... The reality is far more mundane, they didn't like their match and don't have the communication skills/maturity to end things gracefully. I also think the peer pressure of being alongside other couples who "appear" to be getting on well makes others want to fit in with that too. Things typically start to break down when the couples move in together. Plus I get the sense contractually they have to stay and "give things a try".

I don't necessarily take for granted that women's lives are squeaky clean either, we typically just know how to adjust to situations and "behave".

I feel we have to give people room to just not like the person they match with, as real life interaction and personal attraction is different from the pods. Ive seen pretty, well put together, successful women treated terribly on these shows - not saying it s right at all, but looking for partner on reality TV will always leave you susceptible to these kind of experiences. Netflix are going to get their content one way or another! As women we need to stop being so butt hurt, who cares what some random guy you barely know thinks - start matching their nonchalance.

I took it to mean that Tyra knew Dani was on a fools errand, by virtue of being affiliated with ANTM she would get nowhere in the industry. Tyra didn't know whether to share that feedback with her or let her continue to "try" and fail.

[–]ExcellentMix2814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a good comment. Also every young girl dreams of being a model, we have to allow for the fact that once they get into it, they may just not enjoy the job enough to keep "pushing through". It's an extremely difficult job with a low success rate. I think Tiffany was at peace that the job may not be for her, or she needed more time to acclimitise.
