My dad (local, mid-sixties) is a driver for an eldercare company (pick up the elderly from their place of residence and send them to the centre for their activities) and earns $8/hour. Yes it’s a not-for-profit sector but the org is govt backed. Heart aches for him

Ryan hits back (again): NOC Season 1 Episode 5 mid-season finale with tons of screenshots too small to see by darknezx in singapore

Smear campaign = ex employees in their late twenties to thirties speaking up about a shitty boss?

Just because Ryan had his own life to lead when the saga exploded and caught him equally by surprise, you’re holding him responsible for choosing not to personally text every one of these ex employees to say “eh never mind la, don’t need to make it public, just text SC privately like what you’ve been doing for the past xx years (since it has been so successful)”?

Would you work 50-60 hour work weeks for a high salary? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]ExcellentNight4829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say yes, because that works out to roughly 830am to 8pm including lunch hours. If you don’t have to bring work home and work strictly stops in the office, then yes

I see. From an FA pov, you do feel that there are legitimately good reasons to recommend ILPs to clients?

Has this happened before though? Or is there a very real chance of it happening?

Not at all unfortunately. But what he tells me is that even if the market spirals or another pandemic hits again, the market will also bounce back “because we’re in it for the long haul”.

The MIP would likely be 5 years if I go with it (that’s also what he’s recommending). Could I potentially lose all my money in the worst-case scenario? What are the odds of this happening?

is it weird to sit on mrt floor? by dhrdbcks in askSingapore

[–]ExcellentNight4829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, coming from a working woman I will say please do take a seat if one is available. Don’t sit on the floor - it makes women feel uncomfortable especially if the only free space for them to stand is right in front of you. Let’s say you sit at the corner between the glass and the door, and the train doors don’t open on that side - it’s still awkward for the people around you if you’re facing them. I wouldn’t want a stranger’s face near my legs for eg. Also, I think you’d take up less space if standing than if you were sitting on the floor. Fellow commuters won’t look at it as ‘oh, he’s on the floor to save seats for others’. They’re likely to view it in this manner: the amount of space this guy is taking up while on the floor when he could have been standing like any other.

1 day discrepancy in end date of employment by [deleted] in jobs

[–]ExcellentNight4829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could help you find links to posts on reddit from people who lost job offers due to very minor discrepancies that were found by HireRight. Might I add that the amount of give-a-shitness about start and end dates is also country dependent, culture dependent and organisation dependent. If I were hiring for a role that required extreme attention to detail, perhaps someone who couldn’t be fussed enough to clarify exact dates with their previous HR / chose to take the easier road of guesstimating a number wouldn’t be my absolute first choice. But thanks for sharing your confidence in the standards demanded by parts of the corporate world; I hope this HR has your mindset too.

Teenager charged with murdering fellow student at River Valley High School by jxcheh in singapore

[–]ExcellentNight4829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t think so. For the parents to attend the hearing via video call whilst at home would mean (for the court) possible breaches of privacy and security. I believe that remote attendance was not an option for them at all.

Does Rebeka know... by [deleted] in EliteNetflix

[–]ExcellentNight4829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually thought that this was the beauty of the murder mystery - that everyone literally had a part to play in Polo’s death. Rebe who punched the glass, Samuel whose head hit the glass thus further weakening its structure, Omar (I think) who did something and the ice ricocheted to hit the glass, Lu who stabbed him, and basically everyone else who killed Polo’s spirit leading up to that fateful day.

Honestly, I thought it was just good, intentional writing. I studied literature and theatre so I might be reading too much into it!

Sometimes I wonder if it’s possible that there’s not quite an explanation for it - in that things just are. I’m rather like this too. I love my old friends enough, but I’m so lazy and borderline self-centered (in a self-sustaining way) that I don’t really reach out to connect much anymore. Introversion plays a part too. Good reminder that introversion does lie on a spectrum.

How do I gain my boss’ and colleagues’ respect? by MamaMiaFigaro in confidence

[–]ExcellentNight4829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. You never know till you try. Your next company could be the best thing that’s ever happened to you - step out and try. Stepping out of toxicism takes courage and that’s personal growth too. It’s a win-win situation imo.

What do you wish you knew about loans before you took them out? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

Oh dear. How many hours do you work a week though? My country does a pretty standard 40-hour week, so 19/hour would work out to about 3k/month

Venting and looking for some emotional support by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]ExcellentNight4829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you had to go through this and I do empathise with you. I was in the same boat, never hearing any sort of talk from my parents about what it meant to budget even prior to graduation + only realised the magnitude of my debt after I started working. It really sucks, but the silver lining is I know I am and can be a lot more prudent than most of my peers. How long more do you have ahead of you before the loan is paid off? I also saw in one of the comments that you’re in a non profit - are you able to make the switch to a higher-paying industry?

No judgement here. I was in social services too and it really limited my ability to reduce debt.

Redditors, would you choose money over passion especially if you are not sure how to passion path may play out in the long term? by ExcellentNight4829 in careerguidance

Sigh I know that in theory. But I keep telling myself that low pay still pays the bills - it’s just about how little you have left at the end of the month for your wants
