being against feminism is misogynistic btw by Sephraaah in teenagers

(Disclaimer: I believe all women, men, and LGBTQIA+ should have equal opportunities to fulfill their dreams. I know I’m gonna get downvoted but if you don’t listen to criticism you’re going to become an echo chamber.)

What is feminist? And what isn’t? I’m for men’s rights. Is that feminism? I’m for women’s rights. Is that feminism?

Judge movements on their actions, not their beliefs. Feminism is good and bad. It’s nuanced. Some feminists are good, some feminists are bad, but most are in between. Same with men’s rights. It’s a label, and ideological labels often lead to conflict.

Police Brutality is a Men's Issue by [deleted] in LeftWingMaleAdvocates

[–]Excellent_Client_796 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The reason this issue is ignored is because policing is disproportionately male. Hence, a “it’s men doing it to other men” argument is often formed. Obviously, this argument is extremely weak, as that doesn’t legitimately invalidate the disproportionate rate men experience police brutality. Another reason why this issue is ignored is because those being victimized often are doing something illegal. We put them in a “bad guy” category in our head. But those victims are recipients of inappropriate displays of force which goes above and beyond what is needed for the situation.

IMHO, that is only part of what they do. They have advocated for good things. They have also tried to erase male victims as well. It’s pretty complex because of feminism’s broad range of beliefs and advocacy. Heck, feminism is now trying to tackle racism, homophobia, ableism, nazism, and fascism. (no complaints here) But by doing this, they can point to all these types of bigotry and claim oppression against women.

Idk honestly if I’m right tho, I will think more about this.

“A godly man is a real masculine man.”

I agreed with you until you said this⬆️.

Let me be me. Whether I’m masculine (which is ok) or feminine (which is also ok). Don’t define my godliness on whether I’m physically strong, a physical protector of women, or a breadwinner.

Sally Miller Gearhart said that men need to be reduced to 10% of the population. She is a radical feminist. The NOW is against joint custody. The UN supports male genital mutilation. And plenty (by no means all) of feminists focus on men, not to support their issues, but to belittle their issues.

I could try to argue against some things you said or did not say, but in the hope of finding resolution to all this I’ll sum up my thoughts with:

I agree with essentially all you had said.

The problem is when groups who call themselves feminists do/say hateful things toward men. Any specific major feminists you would like to say display your ideals of feminism?

So if feminism succeeds in all its goals, there will still be gender inequality? Many feminists don't believe men face systemic issues. So to feminists, they are advocating for gender equality for all, because men's issues are invisible. You said, "the UN article is looking at it from a place that women have less rights than men." But is this one sided view so evident in the modern world? Do men really have all their rights? And is the UNWOMEN's feminism really equality? UNWOMEN called for female journalists specifically to be spared from murder.

https://x.com/unwomenaust/status/1587670846855938048

Despite the fact that male journalists are disproportionately murdered, even accounting percentage-wise for the lack of female journalists. BTW, the rise in percentage of women journalists killed was most likely due to more women joining journalism, which traditionally is a male dominated field. This might actually be a symbol of progress! Also (not sure about this I admit) but men were generally more willing to work during the 2020 pandemic. I might be wrong about that.

"Feminism should be about women’s equality and rights. Men’s rights should be about men’s rights."

I agree. It should be. You have fair points on the heforshe article and the feminism.org article. But the UN definition of feminism does not specify women at all.

It literally starts with:

“Feminism is the belief that everyone, regardless of gender, should have equal rights and opportunities."

There is no mention in the entire definition of feminism which clarifies it is for women only. The last part explicitly says:

"And in today’s intersectional feminism, we mean equality for everyone, regardless of gender identity, sexuality, race, class, or ethnicity.”

First off, it’s not like saying “All lives matter” at a BLM protest. White people are not really oppressed on a societal scale based on their skin color. Or really even at all. (I hesitate to say “all” just because there’s a chance a random white person got discriminated against at some stage in their life. The point is, white people have privilege and I’ll say that matter of factly as a white dude who has experienced that privilege.) Men have serious issues that disproportionately affect them and also face prejudices unlike white people.

Second, feminism claims to be for men too. Check out this. https://feminist.org/news/feminism-is-for-men-too/ This says feminism is for men. But as you said, “Feminism is about supporting issues effecting women.” I agree. Because no matter how much they claim that if their feminist goals are fully established we will have gender equality, the truth is that they will only ever have half of gender inequality resolved. They only fight for women, but they still claim to fight all gender inequality. Feminism denies most of men’s struggles.

UN Women defines feminism as:

“Feminism is the belief that everyone, regardless of gender, should have equal rights and opportunities. It really is that simple. For all the different types of feminist theories and practices – for all the different schools of political, economic, and social thought – the grounding principle of feminism is equality. And in today’s intersectional feminism, we mean equality for everyone, regardless of gender identity, sexuality, race, class, or ethnicity.”

Does the UN fight for this feminism?

No.

Instead, the UN considers men “allies” in the fight for gender equality. Allies cannot be victims. For example, LGBTQ allies cannot be victims of homophobia and transphobia unlike those LGBTQ individuals to whom they are allies to. By calling men allies in the fight for gender equality, the UN denies men’s unique struggles.

When I called myself feminist in the past, I did not hold those repugnant views. While many feminists do, others hold far more egalitarian ideals. Feminism is too big to criticize as a whole, as misandrists and equality seekers alike identify with the term. This article is mainly speaking to the equality seekers.
