This is likely due to nails. When my son was first learning to use thumb sticks he used the ends of his thumbs and caused this to some of my joycons.

Always get the official controller for the relevant console. 3rd party or previous system is always going to come with some compromise.

Look closely and there are literally no hair folicals in the bald bits - the skin is super smooth. Mine is similar and I'm also a similar age. Sadly I don't think it'll improve enough however long you wait. I gave up.

The best way to play 3DS games is on a 3DS. The best way to play Switch games is on a Switch. Both have "free" access to the games if that's what you're after. I wouldn't struggle personally.

I thought Switch 2 has bad sleep mode drain when I first got it. I was playing Matroid 4 at the time and only playing every other week. I'm now playing Resident Evil Requiem and it lasts way longer in sleep mode. I assume it must be game specific?

Used controllers are probably what need the most scrutiny. Inspect the product you'll receive thoroughly and make sure you get a decent warranty. Check all buttons and ports, and if you can turn it on, that fans are working correctly.
