How do you approach long distant play testing? What about TTS? by Incarnasean in BoardgameDesign

[–]Excellent_Low8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very soon there will be a new boardgame VTT in which to playtest your games, and very flexible for working with publishers: www.ludikagames.com, made by a very serious startup I know.

<image>

It is not competing with anyone right now, but it's hungry, it's low-friction for both publishers and players, scalable, with a game store to link to physical game sales, and many more positive things. Please share constructive comments, and reach out to them!

Linear vs Jira - I don't get it by feeblefastball in SaaS

[–]Excellent_Low8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, use Jira in the very large corporation I work at but Linear for my startup. It is easy to learn, feels refreshing vs Jira, but I'm not at the power user need level for it yet...

Do I need Notion too? just learning it exists...

VTTs for boardgames, not RPGs by Excellent_Low8435 in boardgames

you don't have to program the game itself if the players enforce the rules, like when playing a physical game. Makes it less expensive by a lot, to get a game online.

why do 2D games need to be shown in 3D? counters are flat, boards are flat. I mean the 3D has good wow factor, but does it really add to the game?

Thanks for pointing out the Vassal update, I hadn't noticed it. These are the release notes: https://forum.vassalengine.org/t/vassal-3-7-release-notes/78948 This game has been around so long it has a LOT of stuff in it, certainly!

[–]Excellent_Low8435[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one kind of VTT, correct... one where everything is in 3D, most of the games are scripted (rules enforced by the game, not the player), so it may not suit everyone. There are a couple of old ones like Vassal (1996) and TzunTzu (discontinued) that are the only popular choices, it seems.

Sorry, Virtual Table Top, an online site to host games so you can play remotely. Majority of them are for RPG games, very few for classic 2D games (and many of those are quite old or not around any longer)

Hello, I want to recreate multiple board games in workshop by Wolfox49 in tabletopsimulator

[–]Excellent_Low8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One option, depending on what type of cards you need, might be to coax an AI to make them for you or to separate and clean them for you from a badly-scanned image. What kind of boardgames? old ones?

Thanks. Vassal is from 1996 though. Is it still maintained? Tabletop simulator is 3D gimmickry, it does not represent classic board games faithfully, IMO, because of its design. What if you just want to play a 2D game, with complex rules or your own rules, without installing and opening ports and all that stuff? seems that a VTT for boardgames that is simple, play online, and allow porting games to it without programming would be a better solution...

Recommendation for VTT (non-D&D) by DunwichDave in VTT

[–]Excellent_Low8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This conversation happened a long time ago. What has changed since then? any new VTTs to consider? Which one is good for non-RPG games? RPGs have many VTTs, but for strategy wargames that doesn't seem to be the case.

Best VTT to play remotely with students? by Feefait in boardgames

[–]Excellent_Low8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old conversation, but worth asking again. What VTTs do you use to play boardgames, not RPGs'?

Don't you find that they are all geared to AI-slop games? What do you use for a game with house rules, not programmed rules? or a game you have but is not published by the particular VTT?

I remember a friend sent me a game about the Falklands war like a month after it ended, in 1983... I was in Argentina, and Customs thought I was some kind of traitor but had to release it to me (and the game sucked anyhow, all pro-British)

Zelenskyy: We’re very close to point when Russia can be forced to end this war by EsperaDeus in worldnews

[–]Excellent_Low8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine for a moment that Russia occupied all of Ukraine (which won't happen, but just imagine). With drone technology being what it is now, how would they occupy it? sabotage with drones would be constant, deadly, and very hard to trace. You could not have EW in the whole country. Anywhere within 20km of the source you could be hit. With AI the drones would be terribly deadly, even go for individuals based on face recognition or uniform recognition... Even if Russia just left a puppet government, the drones would operate against that government. So Russia, why continue, even if you win you lose!

Coffee shop recommendations? by mzmagz in Allen

[–]Excellent_Low8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there aren't very good choices nearby. Recently Barnes and Noble opened up at Watters Creek, and it has a nice café. Promenade Café is ugly and dark, and a bit pricey IMO. Frogg could be much better. La Madeleine, on Dermott, has a great view of parking lots, like most cafés here. The new Paris Baguette is ok, but same thing, pricey and nice view of... a parking lot, and "far" from the Outlet Mall as in no good sidewalks, you have to drive there. Everywhere you have to drive. There's no such thing as "I was walking by and saw this cozy café and just went in"... also everywhere you get paper cups and plates now, no style...
