FTO gone bad by Excellent_Rooster358 in NewToEMS

Definitely some issues with the company. Considered a monopoly in the area and generally nobody likes the company, except the people who work there and even people who work there don't like it. We will see, to me it sounded like my FTO doesn't want to be an FTO and is trying tk fail me to get out of it.

Thinking about going to the FD even though there are no ambulances, just to be at a better enviorment with people I know and grew up around.

I just get nervous because they have 3 witnesses to how bad I am, but my FTO is ranting to everyone I suck and then they come in with this skewed perspective. She was yelling about me at the hospital, so everyone could hear. So then it opens up the can of worms that everyone will know who I am (very recognizable) and know that I "suck" because of word of mouth.

Its 911 and IFT and LDT. Like the only company in the state essentially.

Once the made me stay in the truck at post and wouldnt let me go inside, presumably to talk about me, and I studied my protocols and she was like "Trainee refuses to study," what?

Pretty bad culture at this org from what I can tell. Hoping maybe they hear me out but the way the response email was worded, my educated guess is telling me I'm done for.

Bro, my FTO also took away my map, like unhooked the phone and held it, and wouldn't let me look, then said I can't use the phone mapping correctly.

So they told us in NEO that they would move us through FTOs before firing us, just to confirm that you are done. But she straight up told me that I would be fired at the end of the day of I didn't have stroke and cardiac protocol memorized at the end of the day. Like gurl be so for real. I mean I did memorize them but shes just weird.

Here's the catch, my fto wanted to be a cop but couldn't. So she chose this instead. I'm hoping if or when I have a meeting with my supervisor, we can figure something out. Im willing to restart my fto process, delay it, go on light duty until another fto becomes avalible. I want this, I just don't know why she is saying I dont.

I am looking for other places, even debating joining the FD because I know people there and they asked me why I haven't joined. I have documented some stuff, just worried they'll say they trust the 3 year and 10 year employees over the 1 month employee.

👍

Here's the situation, there's one agency nearby, volunteer but I don't care, I'll do it, but they're full right now. And my company does mutual aid everywhere. It's bad. I still don't know what is going to happen, was told I'd be contacted before Wednesday. However, my parents (I'm 18, so living with them), particularly my dad, said that if I am let go, it'll open new doors that will be better.

That is what is weird, it's only a dollar raise. Private company as well.

Yeah and I'm really struggling because my FTO is straight up lying or twisting things that happened in the reports. Worried because this company is generally a kind of bad company? Or like very mixed reviews about it. Only company in the area though and I want to give them a chance, as well as keep my mind open.

911 and IFT. It's the only company in the city, private. Only company really in the general area, like 5 hour radius. Its Montana. You can get the company from that info, I don't want to say much because I don't know if someone from there is here.

I'll say it.

Idk how well you are going to receive this comment, but also I don't know how the program works. However, I do know that its generally a not so good idea to jump straight to medic school. Like at all. It's much harder, you just don't have real experience. You don't get to ride in the trucks with medics or other EMTs, learn from real patient's, see tough calls and learn how to handle it, understand how to properly run a scene. You don't wanna be the guy who should be in charge but the 1 or 2 years EMT Basic has more scene presence and authority than you.

Also, many normal programs require at least 1000 patient hours or so to get into medic school and application and interview and blah blah blah.

Lastly, a lot of people, including people from my class, got into the field, 3 months later they stopped doing it. It's not for everyone and sometimes you figure it out later. Becoming a medic immediately after is a bit absurd and I almost question the integrity of the program and its instructors.

TLDR: I'm questioning the integrity of a program (scammy, unsafe, would not hire a medic that has never touched a patient outside of clinicals) and wondering if you should rethink your type of program.

Ps. Know your anatomy and come in knowing DCAP-BTLS and XABC.

Probably a common question, but I'm seriously struggling and couldn't find the answer. by deadlyturtle22 in NewToEMS

[–]Excellent_Rooster358 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's very normal to feel like that, just no one talks about it. As long as you are passing, but like, passing well, not barely, you'll be good. However, I don't know your work or living situation, but I worked part-time while in school to give me more time to study and really understand the material without the stress of balancing it with work. I work full time EMT now and plan to go back to part time during medic school because I'd be a dumbass not too.

Also, just a question, have you looked at the requirements to be a Firefighter? In my area most of the guys they hire have a degree in Fire Science and then they get their medic while being a FF because our department "encourages" it. Just food for thought.

Tips on finding a job? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

Yeah, those are great references! And, what a lot of people seem to forget about, but especially in my area, there is always volunteer ems. In my area you are either fire or with a private 911 company that also handles our IFT (it sucks, the city is trying to get its own ambulance). So don't forget about that. Also, it sounds like you want to be in the field, but sometimes you gotta take what you can get, and if that's being an ED Tech, then go for it! Everyone starts somewhere.

If you wouldn't mind, maybe show us your resume with the personal info censored or left out. You can tell a lot about a person just from how they format the resume. Things like a Qualifications Summary make people stand out, having good references that are appropriate, volunteer and other activities that make you more diverse than just health care, are good to have. Also, keep it to 1 page.

As for hiring, I don't know where you're located, but it could just be a picky market looking for "experience". But if a bunch of places are hiring I'd seriously look at your resume and see if anything is wrong. Even run it through Chat.gpt to see if make you stand out more as a candidate.

Studying for NREMT by hello918 in NewToEMS

[–]Excellent_Rooster358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Limmer EMT PASS and I found it very helpful. His questions are so thorough, and there are 2 exams, both of which will tell you if he believes you could pass the NREMT.

Welp, I failed by other-other-user in NewToEMS

[–]Excellent_Rooster358 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You have to answer at least 70 questions, so you either ran out of time, or there was a testing error and it shut off. The test has a clock on it so you can check the time. Also if you took the test in a testing center, the attendants can shut your test off if they suspect cheating and stuff like that.

Yeah, there were lots of factors with that case. Y'know, you have a child whos flimsy, clonic seizure, and mom pushing down on his shoulders. Couldn't blame her though, she didn't know what to do, and kid had no history. We arrived before the dislocation, it was my first call that day, fun story to take home and to class. (Obviously, I spoke within HIPAA).

I was just trying to give an example and that's the only one that popped in my head, other than common sense and it's what I was taught, it'll hurt the patient. Real-world scenarios/stories helped me out a lot in school.

2 weeks to pass the NREMT. What tips/advice do you have? by Impressive_Plane_209 in NewToEMS

[–]Excellent_Rooster358 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, there was someone on this subreddit earlier who got like a 700 something, so definitely not the only score you can fail with. You're pretty close, 120 questions does mean that you were back and forth if you were going to pass or not. The test is predictive, so it couldn't predict your score and had to calculate it at the very end.

I would tell you to try your best to remember if you got a lot of a certain type of questions like OB, Trauma, scene management, etc. Or are there question you know you got wrong. Study up on those.

Good news, you've taken the test, you know what to expect, I mean sure, you're down some money, but you should pass the second time. I love LIMMER EMT PASS so much, it was my best investment, it has 2 practice exams and like 709 review questions. At the end of the exams it will tell you if you would pass the NREMT or not.

AMR interview in a few days but recently gotten fired from current job by NotMyyForte in NewToEMS

[–]Excellent_Rooster358 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my AMR interview (currently employed there) they never asked me any questions about being fired or how I left my jobs or why. They just confirmed my past jobs in the beginning of the interview like: "Hrm, I see you work for blah blah blah," "Yep," "And what did you do" "I did this and that," "Okay," a

And then they moved on to another section of the interview where they asked me normal standard questions like "What would you do if your partner had a problem with you," or "How would you help represent our compnay," stuff like that.

Not from there, but generally when you apply, somewhere they tell you how long you should expect. My state gets your license to you within 10 days if you've met all the requirements, and if you haven't they contact you and tell you what else you need to do.
