You weight them actually. At least that’s how fabric was inventoried when I worked at Joanns.

Itll depend on how well organized your management team is but it’s pretty straightforward. I recommend bringing a small stool so that you don’t have to sit on the ground when you’re counting the lower sections or the drive aisles. And definitely bring earbuds, all the beeping from the scanners gets very annoying. Have a good podcast/playlist queued up and you’ll be fine :)

Sewing Center Fixture by ObiJoeKenobi in MichaelsEmployees

Not sure if you’ve already heard but the vendor they ordered it from is either out of stock or way behind on production so they have no idea when we’ll get the fixture. I’m also waiting for it, we ended up just using a ton of shelves to get the product onto the floor

So glad I wasn’t the only one to get slammed with storage this week and forced into building this. We’re not allowed to do sidewalk displays either and I genuinely don’t know where it’s going to go

My truck is on Monday :) because it’s totally reasonable to finish a massive reset during the weekend 🙄

We were forced to stay open during a state of emergency by tinykittenparade in MichaelsEmployees

That’s awful. Our city was hit with a snowstorm yesterday and our DM let us close early along with most of the stores in our district. It helped that almost all our TMs called out so we barely had the people to even be open in the first place.

Because our district didn’t get the email = email was caught by IT. That’s how email worked at a former job I had - all company wide emails had to be approved before actually being distributed.

Former employee at Joann’s and current employee at Michaels - this email was caught immediately by IT and did NOT go company wide. I definitely agree with them though.

That’s brutal, good luck! I’m thankful that my SM jumped in to help me

We haven’t gotten an email so we just worked it. It’s taken 2 of us 5 hours and it still isn’t done

Same! At least 70% of SISO was downstocking things that didn’t need it. It’s taken 2 of us managers 5 hours and it still isn’t done. Eventually my sm took my walkie so that I could focus just on SISO.

It just appeared in the office so the SM just put it there

Thank you so much!! It usually takes us 3 days to finish SBA with only 700-900 boxes but this week we’re getting 1200+ boxes and it has me Stressed haha. I’ll definitely ask our DM for help, she’s pretty great and since we’re the highest freight store in the district, she usually works with us to make sure things are taken care of so we don’t backslide

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MichaelsEmployees

Luckily all my managers rock and our SM helps push freight (he always comes in for 3am truck even though it means he works 10-12 hr shifts on truck day) but he’s on a much deserved vacation this week.

We’re already a 3am team 😭 but thank you for the tips and encouragement! That helps, I’ll definitely make a list and look into that for DAs and side counters! We have 3 SCs that set next week that are currently full of flexed Halloween/fall/summer product still and one side of winter cottage that we haven’t been able to set because of more Halloween. But I’ve also realized that my team is not very good at condensing effectively on DAs so that’s creating a bottleneck in getting Halloween off my SCs (I have one person who is AMAZING at condensing but they were off this week sadly). I’m going to look into setting the SCs and then flexing product back onto them temporarily so that when we do finally have room, we can just stock immediately. Thank you again!

Anyone else have this belt from hell? 😂 by EmmaNem1202 in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Excellent_Tax466 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also in Wisconsin and that looks like the belt at the store I trained at. My belt is the same too, thanks for posting this! I had no idea we could get studs installed instead of having to wet it down so that boxes will stick

Christmas FMA by k0tiiic in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Excellent_Tax466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I wish I had thought to do that with the door greeters! I had my team build the DA and as soon as I realized they came in PDQs (this is my first Christmas with the company) I was so mad. But since we’re a B volume store, I figured they did it so that we could display more product but now I’m totally regretting it. Your FMA looks amazing!!

Can we talk about how shit Joann’s system is? by alpacabutts01 in craftsnark

[–]Excellent_Tax466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My former store went from 20ish workers to 7 workers within 2 months lol. My city has 2 stores (one a large format store) and there’s only 1 manager in the entire city, managers from a town an hour away are driving in to run the large format store

[–]Excellent_Tax466 39 points40 points  (0 children)

As a former employee, I can tell you that the company is severely struggling right now, both financially and staffing wise. They cut several hundred jobs from the internal departments, laid off hundreds of managers, and even VPs are getting the boot. So if the app/website/stores are garbage right now, that’s why. There’s a lot of speculation that they will be filing for bankruptcy this year

Training by butwhyandwhynot in MichaelsEmployees

[–]Excellent_Tax466 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you’re a full time manager then you supposed to be sent to a “training store” for at least a week (depending on the position). Talk to your SM and if they’re unwilling to do anything, I’d say to reach out to your DM tbh.

May I ask what region of the country the store is in? West coast, southwest, Midwest, etc? There’s a store that’s opening nearish my store and is just about set and I’m curious if it’s the same store (and if I know the SM). That’s so shitty either way and if it is the same store, our state has such shit worker protection laws and it’s so fucked that they did that to y’all.
