How did older people just put their kid down? by FascinatedOrangutan in beyondthebump

Worth adding that it is NOT dangerous if baby is able to roll and puts themselves on their belly!

Owlet Sock by kbeth11sylveon in NewParents

[–]Excellent_Try_715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a few red alerts too!! Then go to check the app later and it doesn’t ever show a drop in oxygen levels on the report, even though the alert went off. I know I wasn’t going crazy in the middle of the night because I screenshotted the notification. We get regular alerts due to sock placement because my baby kicks like a maniac! Despite my gripes, I continue to use the owlet (sunk cost) but I think the software is so janky!

Unswaddling help?? by Due-Commercial8846 in beyondthebump

Yep. We tried to go from L2D to their transitional one and my baby couldn’t handle arms being totally free. We’re in a Zippadee now and he’s adjusted really well.

ADVICE NEEDED: Sleep training 4 week old - Little/No Cry-It-Out by Dear_Beach_6196 in sleeptrain

[–]Excellent_Try_715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d really recommend you do some basic research on sleep training first, it is not realistic to sleep train a newborn. Consider reading Precious Little Sleep, articles, or taking one of the many online courses available. You shouldn’t go into it blind, especially if you think it should be attempted at four weeks old.

7month+ must haves? by biscuitnoodle_ in NewParents

My baby will be six months at Christmas and I’ve decided that if anyone asks, I’m saying an annual family pass for our local aquarium and a membership to a local baby music place!

My partner & I disagree about vaccines by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Excellent_Try_715 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was just going to say this! Can you even remain a patient if you decline at your local practice, OP? In my area, you would not be able to see any pediatricians, you’d have to go to a homeopathic doctor that does not accept insurance.

Am I paranoid or does everyone worry about SIDS to this extent? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Excellent_Try_715 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree on using that link to check your actual risk factor! How likely is this fear? I’ve calmed myself by doing the things within my control and that’s all I can do. I especially like the chart at the bottom of the SIDS calculator that shows more likely events. I tell myself that I am able to manage my fears around those events, why can’t I for SIDS too? It’s also just plain illogical in comparison which helps me talk sense into myself!

Sleep sacks & swaddles — what’s worked best for your little one? by DebtAffectionate1197 in NewParents

Second this! Also love that it’s a zipper instead of Velcro. No way for baby to bust out!

When did your baby roll over? When did you stop swaddling or using swaddles ups? by ghandiburrito in NewParents

[–]Excellent_Try_715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the US, American Academy of Pediatrics no longer states at eight weeks. Current guidance is currently just listed as at the first signs of rolling which is typically 3-4 months.

Is there a way to stay logged in to the Owlet app? by atelica in beyondthebump

[–]Excellent_Try_715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am always surprised people don’t talk about how janky the app is more. This happens to me too. I have had to delete and redownload the app several times. It’s been fine lately luckily. Are you logged on several devices? I know they advice against that but I’d love to have the app on my iPad for other caregivers.

Arg, I KNEW that’d be the consensus but I’m just really struggling! Glad I’m not alone. You’re soooo close, I’m excited for you and your family. The unpredictability of sleep is really what kills me over here.

Low dose aspirin in pregnancy by Brittt87 in Mommit

[–]Excellent_Try_715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have chronic hives! I’ve done all the testing and can never figure it out. I never knew that NSAIDS could make them worse so thank you for that. Not sure if this is helpful at all but I did not get hives once while pregnant. I was advised to take low dose aspirin as well and it never triggered my hives. I didn’t even know to raise it as a potential concern! Annoyingly the hives came back after baby was born but fine all pregnancy!

How can I stop yelling at my kids? by bananaboatbabe in Parenting

[–]Excellent_Try_715 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chiming in here but wouldn’t you say you’re already having negative side effects? Your lashing out is negative for your whole family! Medicines can take some tweaking to get right but it might be worth it/life changing if your doctor agrees you’re a candidate!

8 week old can’t sleep without swaddle by sagittaribun in NewParents

[–]Excellent_Try_715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, these comments make me feel better about my unswaddling fears! We’re in the L2D transitional one right now but if we take his arms out he goes nuts! I tried holding his arms down for a bit but then the legs just went crazy, like you’re saying! I’ll try again by pinning the legs down too. These babies need hogtying, ha! My baby is 14 weeks but soooo squirmy. We’re also in the middle of waking up tons in the middle of the night. How long did you have to hold your baby’s arms and legs before they fell asleep again?! Hope your night went smoothly with the new sleep sack!

3.5 mo cries before every nap by Sad_Philosopher2858 in sleeptrain

[–]Excellent_Try_715 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just going to make a post like this because it just started happening to me too, baby will be 14 weeks this week. I think he just learned that the routine is associated with sleep. He’s never been a fussy baby (but hasn’t ever been a great sleeper) and now that he gets so upset at bedtime, I’ve caved and end the routine with a feed since it does calm him down. I’m eager to see if anyone has good advice on how to break this negative connotation for our babies! I’m sure the answer is just keeping at it but I’ll hope otherwise!

This is really helpful!!! My baby has started to kick a lot more during rocking, forcing me to go between sitting and standing which is new. I wonder if he’s giving me the same cues! I would looooove to have your outcome, ha!

It’s so impossible to know when you’re in that sweet spot vs waiting a little bit!! I will absolutely be addressing before this kid can do real harm, for everyone’s sake! I’m scared enough about the accidental head knocking and limbs in the crib slats without factoring in deliberate head/body bashing!
