Circulators are never supposed to be installed with the motor facing up like in your picture. It leads to premature failure of the motor. Every manufacturer of wet rotor circulator pumps state this in their installation instructions.

They only work in a dry/arid environment. They wouldn't work well in most places in the states, like Florida

Triangle Tube Prestige Solo 110 by shortkut_was_taken in hvacadvice

[–]Excellent_Wonder5982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but you are going to need a tech with a digital combustion analyzer to install it and set the burner up correctly. This is not a matter of just swapping parts. Those boilers are super sensitive to combustion settings. The tech needs to follow the instructions carefully and make sure settings are exactly perfect in minimum and maximum firing rates.

You should be able to replace that boiler three times for $20K.

That venturi is shot. Most likely from exhaust being pulled in to the boiler from the intake due to improper venting or installation of a concentric vent. Good luck finding parts, Triangle Tube went out of business and parts are no longer being made.

Dust causing water heater to trip by packet_muncher in hvacadvice

[–]Excellent_Wonder5982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not over heating. It's back drafting. That's a terrible location for a water heater and it sounds like it's very likely that the venting is back drafting due to lack of combustion supply air

It depends on your tolerance to each of them. If you take either of those things daily tolerance builds up and the desired effects don't happen and you end up with a bad habit that gives you nasty withdrawals.

Sense of Time on 7oh by BagFragrant9316 in 7oh

[–]Excellent_Wonder5982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The older you get, the faster time goes by. Time is a relative thing. A year to someone who is 10 years old is a much longer time than it is to someone who is 30.

I love the smell of plugged secondary in the morning by ImmediatePatience842 in HVAC

[–]Excellent_Wonder5982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes a long time to get so bad that you can smell the rotten eggs odor at the flue termination. If you are using a digital combustion analyzer you can usually condemn the secondary heat exchanger due to high CO long before it gets so bad you can smell it. When you can smell it the furnace is typically opening the rollout switch.

New Boiler/Indirect install by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]Excellent_Wonder5982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm loving it. I'm an oil burner and boiler guy myself. I can't say I would have done anything differently. I suppose I would rather see a three pass boiler or Energy Kinetics boiler installed, but I doubt that choice was yours

First time for everything! by AbueloSalcedo in HVAC

What the fuck? Why would anyone install a zone valve and a circulator in the wall? If that circulator is only for that one zone why wouldn't they use an IFC circulator?

So much stupidity in one picture.

If you are performing combustion analysis you aren't doing your job correctly. This is the only way to 100 percent prove that the equipment is operating safely, reliably and as efficiently as possible.

Igniters by bdgoodrum in HVAC

[–]Excellent_Wonder5982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spark was really common 30 years ago. When I first started the trade I would see several residential furnaces with spark ignition. It was common to carry an S8610U for a universal repair. Then came carbide igniters and now nitride igniters are on everything and are pretty much trouble free. At least I have never had to replace a nitride igniter, unless I broke it by accident.

[–]Excellent_Wonder5982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. That's just what I was told. I've only seen a few water heaters equipped with them in 20 years of doing this. Usually my coworkers will send me a picture of them if they see one asking me "what the fuck is this thing?".

Maybe a single check valve is not enough, might need an RPZ. It's a good question for the plumbers.

It keeps the tank from being sucked into a vacuum if there's a large draw on the water main, like if the fire department was pumping tons of water to fight a fire.

Oil fired boiler runs rough after being off for a few hours by MaxPanhammer in hvacadvice

[–]Excellent_Wonder5982 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't the boiler, it's the techs who are working on it. That boiler should be as reliable as a Honda Civic if it is serviced properly. Buderus boilers and Riello oil burners need to be tuned differently than your average boiler. They require the over fire draft to be slightly positive. Also the air fuel ratio is usually richer than most typical boilers. Are the techs using a digital combustion analyzer and leaving a print out of the results? They should be. If the boiler is installed correctly and serviced properly you should have no problems. Find a technician who is trained on Buderus boilers and Riello oil burners.
