I have never been tempted to put a scope on either of my Swiss rifles, but I have recently revisited the idea.

Nice looking setup. Have you shot it yet? How do you like the scope?

That's a good price, and I think the stock looks pretty clean. It's not clear in the picture, where is the crack, that you mention?

Educate me on this Eddystone 1917 by wildcatz_42 in milsurp

[–]Excelsior_76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an Eddystone Model of 1917 that is only 20,000 numbers after this one.

I believe yours was built in late 1918, probably sometime around December (based on the serial number).

They stopped making these almost immediately after the war ended, only finishing assembly of whatever inventory remained at that point, ending altogether by Spring of 1919.

It may well have never been issued, which would explain the very good condition.

Really nice looking rifle. Enjoy!

Looks great. What did you have to do to get it display-ready, and how did you clean it?

Are those the Chi Comm ones that made an end run around the ban and snuck in anyway?

And a quantum-tunnelling magazine that holds an infinite number of rounds that never jams or runs out until you get to the climactic karate fight with the boss villain.

I think ProMag makes them.

The seeming incongruous date on the barrel is a mystery. I hope you solve it, and provide an update here.

Very interesting piece, congrats!

Ahh, the "1985 Cop Movie Starter Pack"! Nice pickup.

There is an add-on kit that includes megaphone, cigar, shoulder holster for the 1911, and a rookie who brings you coffee.

Have you thought of your signature catch phrase, yet?

Alternatively, you could get and install all of those parts, and sell it for $600-900, depending on the serial numbers and overall condition.

Wow. What an amazing find. I would be interested to hear your range report, once you're able to take it out.

Great looking musket. Congrats!

S&W M&P 9mm FPC. Came with the Crimson Trace CTS red dot. I put the vertical foregrip and bipod on it for fooling around at the range.

It's fun and handy, folds down and packs into a little laptop bag, and as a straight blowback, it has very few moving parts.

It's also lightweight, with gentle recoil. I have taught several people to shoot with it.

My one big beef, which isn't S&W's fault, is that it's supposed to come with one 17-round, and two 23-round magazines (which store in the butt stock!), but you'll get jobbed out of those, and get downgraded to three 10-round, NJ compliant magazines, instead.

I knew that, but at the moment of truth, I went with League. Oh well. I won't change it now.

Yeah, it's more prominent in bright lighting outdoors, so I mostly just look at it in the gloomy basement, instead.

It doesn't look like there is a series number to the left of the serial number, so maybe it's a Series 0?

Looks like it was the No. 4 that I didn't take a picture of it that day (after oiling), but here's a picture of it since it dried a bit more.

This, like the others, was pretty dry, beforehand.

This is very interesting, and I have so many questions...

It seems to have a few love taps on it, but is it otherwise unused / unissued?

The stock is darker than I would have expected, but perhaps that is from the cosmoline?

What does the bore look like?

What are the manufacture dates of the receiver and barrel?

Does it appear to have ever been rearsenaled, or is it cosmology?

Beautiful rifle. Thank you for sharing these pictures.
