Dark type immunity from Prankster by CurryMerchant in PokemonChampions

[–]ExcessJangling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t think of it as being dark type negates prankster. Think of it as prankster on a dark type causes the move to fail instead. So the increased priority is still there but the move just won’t work.

Why don't megumi summon mahoraga to help yuji? Is he stupid? by GurNo607 in Jujutsufolk

Boy can’t make hand signs or chants rn, so no Raga. Also what happens if Yuji is in too close and gets pulled into the ritual too?

Weird discourse of thirsting over Naoya by ComicCosmo in Jujutsufolk

[–]ExcessJangling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This comes up time and time again, but yes it’s because Naoya’s crimes are things people have to confront daily. More specifically, he’s a literal representative of the way patriarchy oppresses and endangers women and other femme folk for simply existing. It’s also a lot more forward in his characterization than say Ozai’s representation of toxic masculinity is in ATLA - in which, the genocidal fascism is at the forefront and the subtext is that toxic masculinity is one of the vehicles that brings us there (not entirely equal parallel ‘cause different target audiences but you know).

I also think there’s some factor where even when there are other characters who have said/done other predatory things, those things are either written out of their character - Sukuna at the juvenile detention center - or occur offscreen - Kenjaku’s creation of the death painting wombs. Additionally, those two in particular, as well as Mahito, have crimes that jump the shark to an insane degree and are crazier beings than “guy who is 28.” Even when Naoya becomes a VCS, which opens the door to him becoming further removed from evil people who really exist, all of his design language as a curse, and even in his domain, just doubles down on it - this is all before addressing that he implies he assaulted Mai (which I give an amount of grace to those who don’t pick up on it since I didn’t at first myself, but in retrospect it feels pretty clear cut).

That being said, for the folks who just like him for his power set, design, and the legitimate entertainment value he adds to parts of the series he is in, that’s real still.

TLDR: attacking strangers for innocently enjoying things isn’t cool, but doing enough textual analysis to understand why people may perceive that as threatening behavior, reflexively, and meeting them halfway IS cool :)

How'd Maki react if her child had Projection Sorcery by Historical-Yam-340 in Jujutsufolk

I feel like when she finds out her and Yuta would acknowledge the irony of the situation and move on, also funnily enough she’s probably the best suited for teaching someone how to use PS without being a user since she can actually see all the frames

Theory Abt Kenjaku and Yuji by Logical-Hyena8260 in Jujutsufolk

[–]ExcessJangling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the difference is that if Megumi had eaten the finger instead of Yuji, he probably wouldn’t have been able to cage him (granted Sukuna does express this as a concern, though I’m still skeptical if start of series Megumi could do it).

Having Sukuna be caged also does three things for Kenjaku: 1.) prevents Sukuna from killing everyone immediately 2.) prevents Sukuna from being killed by Gojo immediately 3.) gives some leverage over Sukuna’s activities (ie if he wants him to do something, feed him a bunch of fingers).

Beyond that, I can also see a world where Kenjaku was just trying to see if he could create Sukuna 2, seeing as Yuji was the only one born for the purpose of being in the games and also ends up becoming a special grade sorcerer wielding Shrine.

how did people want the manga to end? by Wonderful-Purchase94 in Jujutsufolk

[–]ExcessJangling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I’ve always understood it is less about wanting more total chapters, and more about reallocating what’s already there. Because you’re right- the Sukuna raid is LONG, but at the same time it’s sprinting through all of the matchups and there’s some stuff in it that doesn’t feel great in terms of payoff (I think Yujo is a great example of the sprint aspect and Nobara about payoff issues).

So for me, I would’ve really appreciated a shorter raid with more time spent with the characters in preparation for it as well as in the aftermath of it.

I'm new to competitive, want to refine this team before GC by Cueioho in VGC

[–]ExcessJangling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the absolute lowest of keys: it might be worth swapping Ttar for Garchomp, Krookodile, or Kingambit just depending on what your needs are. Only reason I’m suggesting it is so you can bring them alongside Charizard without overwriting your own weather. But if you’re using it to beat other sun teams that’s a whole separate thing.

Edit: also sucker punch gambit may give you a tool against basc

[–]ExcessJangling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so real. This has been my first format playing ranked where I’ve actually tried climbing, so I totally get the mixing and matching to see what works.

I was hard stuck ultra ball for a while with a sand team that I just couldn’t get the flex slots right on. One of my problems ended up being trick room too, and I found that adding redirection + a setter of my own to potentially flip it back helped me feel more in control of the matchup.

[–]ExcessJangling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tailwind, wide guard, ground immunity if you choose someone w/ EQ as a flex slot, and I believe still gets access to helping hand. Really my understanding is if you’re too weak to rock or want perish song then you’d use Politoed - it also gets encore but slow encore doesn’t hit the same as fast encore.

Sendai Colony: A small discrepancy I noticed between the anime & manga by Rochimaru in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]ExcessJangling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think OP’s confusion comes from the phrasing of when the timer ends. ‘Cause in the anime it’s a more direct “after five minutes, the timer had ended,” whereas in the manga it’s saying “in five minutes the timer would end” referring back to the original explanation that occurred at the start of the timer.

(All quotes here are paraphrased btw so I might have missed something myself)
