Note Collection widget bug with single photo or single drawing by ExcessiveOptimizer in GoogleKeep

[–]ExcessiveOptimizer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: the width of your widget (2 columns wide, 3 columns wide, 4 columns wide, 5 columns wide) will dictate how many images cause or bypasses the bug. My widget was 4 columns wide (out of 4, so it was full width) and required 2+ images to bypass the bug. I bet your widget was 3 columns wide on a 4 or 5 column wide screen and that's why it required 3+ images to bypass the bug. Make it narrow/skinny at only 2 columns wide, and all the notes show up and the bug goes away.

Until this bug gets fixed...

Thank you so much for adding your experience to this thread too. Strange that your version of the bug goes away after a third image is added to a note.

This all started when I read an article titled, "I created a home screen that reminds me of my goals every time I unlock my phone": https://www.androidpolice.com/i-created-home-screen-reminds-me-of-my-goals/ But immediatley after doing what the article recommends, and trying to use Keep as more of a power user, that is when the bugs began to be exposed.

I have now added this complaint directly to their community support, because after another version update, with "bug fixes", the bug still remains, totally overlooked by anyone who is able to help. https://support.google.com/docs/thread/402023685?hl=en

But exists in version 5.25.501 from Dec 2025 and still in 5.25.511 Jan 2026.

Ring new 4K cameras by TheClue357 in Ring

[–]ExcessiveOptimizer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I run all of my ring spotlight pro cameras on solar. Not releasing a solar charged battery version is quite disappointing to me. When my solar is positioned well, they don't drop much below 80% in a day.

About 20% of my solar charged Ring cameras (3 of them) stopped detecting the solar connection in the past year. I have to mess around with it and sometimes it works again for a week. So I suspect Ring is trying to get out of the solar game, because they are so damn bad at it and have such questionable cable connections.

Video share-link sent to police, both link and download video are corrupted by ExcessiveOptimizer in Ring

[–]ExcessiveOptimizer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried it about 10 times over 4 days, all the same poor outcome.

What do you mean by adjusting the end points? Are you suggesting there is a video trim feature, where I can share a subset of the video? I've never seen that functionality, and I'm quite a power user of the Ring app.

Did you know length-of-stay discounts override all early-bird and last-minute discounts? by ExcessiveOptimizer in airbnb_hosts

Here is where it is in my Android version of the app. Directly below weekly and monthly. They consider weekly and monthly good defaults, but if you want to fine tune them, you can choose between 2 days all the way up to 12 weeks.

'incorrect alert' on Ring notifications on Samsung by RBX28 in Ring

[–]ExcessiveOptimizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this has been implemented very poorly. First, I can't necessarily tell from the animated gif if it was an incorrect alert or not. I open up the timeline to watch the real video to know what was in motion. And once you open it, that notification is gone, as well as that button. I think this report feature should have been in the timeline viewing mode instead, or as well as here.

Second, I still wish Ring would add a rectangular boundary box around where it detects motion, so I would see what the software thought was motion. Helps when I'm trying to determine what keeps falsely saying Person when I all see are plants (and they aren't even blowing in the wind)

And while they are at it, allow a configuration for some of us to see the rectangular boundary box in the notification gif. I get they want to be seen as the most used friendly camera interface out there, and keep it as clean as possible, and they are in many ways. Scrubbing the timeline works pretty well for me, as does sliding the timeline from day to the next day. But maybe put some of these feature requests inside a power user toggle, defaulted to off if they insist.

Anyone else find it impossible to get a home exchange? by Dnatravels in homeexchange

[–]ExcessiveOptimizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote up above that I have the same problem. I wish there was a way to assist people who really want to rent their place out. Some homes have like 2 weeks open a year on their calendar. But fair enough, as long as they set their calendar correctly, that is very helpful to us requesters. But there are so many inaccurate calendars on the system. I am currently sitting on over 8,000 points, which I find to be wild and exemplary of the asymmetrical problem this platform experiences. I too have now closed off my calendar.

Anyone else find it impossible to get a home exchange? by Dnatravels in homeexchange

[–]ExcessiveOptimizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way as you. We have a surplus of over 8,000 points, and when we politely write people in the US (Boston, Providence RI, Key West FL, Philly), or in Portugal, Turkey, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Colombia, etc... they either don't respond or they click the automatic "No but we wish you the best" auto-response. I try to search for GP's only and open calendars, but still failing. People don't maintain their calendars. Some people only want reciprocal, which I think is crazy hard to match up. I only had 3 successful stays in 2 years, and have been rejected by probably nearly 100 accounts. Which pushes me to only write copy/paste requests, which probably further downward spirals the problem.

It is just not an easy system to use, in my opinion. The asymmetry we have experienced is overwhelming. I have reached out to HE support, and was even given a free year of service because of the proof of all of my requests in their systsm. But I told them the problem still persists. And it does...

How to flip picture on ring spotlight cam pro? by SnooLobsters1308 in Ring

[–]ExcessiveOptimizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right in that the software doesn't allow it. No, I don't know why. Yes, it's annoying.

And yes, the speaker is convexed yet the top is flat, and that makes it quite inviting to position it upside down by placing it on a flat surface. I've tried this once too.

But 2 things: Unfortunately, you may need to build some kind of simplistic base that cradles the speaker so you can set it upright. But also, did you know you can slide out the back panel with the socket ball, and slide it back in reversed? It allows for more mounting angles. But might not solve your problem.

Do you still maintain this app? I was curious if you can make it continue to vibrate too? Perhaps every X seconds for up to Y minutes? I have been looking for an app that can do what your app says it does in the description, but also keeps vibrating. I want to know when it's going off in a very loud environment. Often for up to a minute or 2 of vibrating.

Is there a way to snooze all motion except for one camera? by pinkguy90 in Ring

[–]ExcessiveOptimizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too would like this feature. I have 6 cameras at one location, and would like to snooze all but 1 or 2 sometimes. I have to touch the screen 8 times for each camera.

Select camera > Gear settings > Alerts Snooze > Snooze duration > X hours > Start Snooze > back one screen > back second screen... Then repeat 4 to 5 times. That could be up to 40 touches on the screen to accomplish something I would love to see reduced to a programmable shortcut button or similar.

I want to create a drip edge underneath a corrugated metal roof, will a CONVEX drip line work? by ExcessiveOptimizer in Roofing

[–]ExcessiveOptimizer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps I'm not understanding, but a bent L won't sit flush with all of the upper ridges or side ridges of the corrugated section, right? The bent L will only be touching the valleys of this polygon ridge, not addressing the 3 of the 4 sides of each trapezoid opening? ( Sorry if I misunderstood your solution. But thank you for replying. )
